With full freshwater, propane and our stuff we carry about 5,000 lbs. I have added zero suspension mods. We headed west last Thursday into some very stiff winds from the northwest but not nearly as bad as what they experienced on Wednesday. This was the Amarillo area. We drove 70-75 mph. Get the camper. Put it on your truck. Drive it. Then decide.Re: Lance 1062Most truck campers don’t have much outside storage. We have a 2014 Lance 992 that is very similar to the 1062. The layout is close to the same with the opposing slides but we have a wet bath, u-shaped dinette, and larger tank capacities. The doors on the passenger side are storage. They just go under the dinette seats. Ours is one long door since our dinette is u-shaped. It’s been awhile since I’ve been in a 1062 so I don’t remember if it’s like ours but we have a slide out drawer built under the floor. It’s located just inside the door and built into the step. I couldn’t find any pictures from that angle.Re: Finally......a good way to carry extra gas (mod)! As a retired full time firefighter I have been on the scene of more vehicle fires than I could possibly remember. Vehicles on fire in garages of burning houses. Multiple vehicles on fire at accident scenes. I remember one car fire where flames were roaring out of the gas fill as the car was burning. Sorry, no explosions. You see these RotoPax on the back of a lot of pickups, jeeps, rzrs. Off-road group seems to love them. Thinking our next Ram dually might be gas. I would mount them on my Lance 992 rear bumper.Re: Just waiting for the bubble to explode. So I had to start over at the beginning to see where this turned into a welding thread. I would never put down anyone who makes an honest living no matter if they were a janitor or a CEO. If a welder could work for 3 or 4 years at that pace he could retire very young. I’m a retired firefighter and I have worked 14 straight 24 hr shifts. So do you want to put me down and say I was stupid. And for 20 years I worked on my days off from the fire station. We still fit in our traveling and fun. I retired when I was 51. People that have such firm opinions amaze me.Re: What is the weak link for Chevy max tow ratings?ShinerBock I usually like to read your posts. I believe you’re very knowledgeable. But it seems as though you’re having a bad day and taking it out here. It seems the “pissing match” is you versus everyone else here. My very uninformed opinion is most of us don’t need to tow 30,000 lbs but we like having a truck that is capable of more than we need. Also these trucks have new features besides new towing/hauling capabilities. And as to the point about braking, all trucks rely on the trailer brakes to stop. I’ve never once brought up how much my trucks could tow but every truck I’ve had was more capable than the last. Certainly not going to whine about that.Re: TC and real off-roadingIn the Sticky section of this sub forum go to trip reports and read Jefe4X4’s reports. Also on Expedition Portal under Hard sided truck campers look up Mundo4X4Casa. Same guy. Very interesting reads.Re: Would you buy diesel again?Yes. First camper hauler was a 2014 Ram 3500 dually. Second truck camper hauler is a 2017 Ram 3500 dually. Got the oil changed today and was looking at there 2018s. Was told the 2019s start shipping in March. I will have to decide if I can’t live without a 2019 or get a smoking deal on a leftover 18. Problem will be getting the color and options we want. Before the 3500s we had a 2012 and 2014 2500. When I’m done with RVing I will consider a gas.Re: Can’t insure full-time camper and truckTruck insured with Geico. Camper with Foremost. Foremost didn’t inquire as to how I was going to use the camper or how often. Your issue may be in how you’re handling your address and where you’re tagging your truck.Re: Desert SW trip advice, please.Have to disagree with Juzaxadar about the Meteor Crater. Been driving by on I-40 since the mid 70s. Don’t remember when it opened as an attraction but always thought it was just another Rt 66 tourist trap so we never stopped. We went to the North Rim in June and my wife wanted to see it. She teaches 5th grade and talks about it in her science class. So we did and it surprised me. It’s more like a museum than I figured. Very interesting. Also if you stay at the campground back at the exit you get a discount on the entrance fee.Re: Bought a dually for a daily driverNavyvette the Ram 3500 doesn’t alarm on low tire pressure. Only gives a reading. This is our 2nd Ram dually. Daily driver, 32,000 in 9 months. In single parking spaces I back in and rear is over the grass behind us. In front to back spaces I take two. Yes it fills up the space width wise but I’m taller than any car that parks beside us so no door dings. Their door would hit my steps. I can go thru most drive thrus. We also have an automatic car wash that duallys can use. No tracks on the floor.
