Yet, if one enjoys exploring backroads and drycamping away from the crowds, Yukon has much to offer. Yukon has a population of about 36,000, with about 28,000 of those living in Whitehorse. Most of the others live in the smaller communities. Then there's a few of us scattered here and there with wildlife for our neighbors. It's been a busy summer for animals in our area - moose, bear, elk, wolf, lynx and bison nearby. We spent quite a bit of time in the Yukon on our trip , and can honestly say it was best part of the trip .Re: Speed Limits in Canada sue.t wrote: retraite wrote: So, at least for now, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. At your house, maybe. At my place, in June and July the sun rises in the north and sets in the north. In December and January, it rises in the south and sets in the south. :B Excellent point Sue :W it's a mind boggling thing to experience for us folks who live a lot closer to the equator:)Re: Speed Limits in CanadaHectares, is that not the planet next to Vulcan ? :-)Re: Speed Limits in Canada sue.t wrote: Paoli wrote: Try to stick to 110 km on highways. Going slower is going to irritate other drivers and causes people to take chances passing you. If you try 110 km/h on the Alaska Highway, you likely won't have an RV worth keeping after your trip. I don't mind passing RVs going 50-70 km/h, although last week the fellow who swerved into the middle of the highway to avoid a frost heave in his lane just about knocked my Honda Fit into the ditch as I was passing him. :E I recall the speed limit on the Alaska Highway was 50 miles an hour through British Columbia and the Yukon back in 1970. the one time we actually got up to 50 miles an hour , we thought we would surly perish ! The usual fee is now 2.5% of your purchase, and often it is buried in fees charged. This is not a CDN transaction fee..this is for ANY purchase made outside of your home country. For CDN's, the Amazon.ca Visa does NOT charge a Foreign Transaction fee. That is one of their advertised reasons to get that card. Although it is administered by Chase, it still has the Amazon.Ca features. I got it just for that reason. Gary Haupt Pentagon Federal Credit Union has a visa card with no foreign transaction fees , and to sweeten the deal it pays 5% cash back for all the fuel you buy with it at pay at the pump fuel stops , and 3% at grocery stores . There are all sorts of ways to become a member without being in the military or being stationed at the Pentagon . google it if interestedRe: How bad can the T.O.W road be? sue.t wrote: 1955 picture here, at the Snag Road junction along the Alaska Highway about 15 miles south of Beaver Creek Great Pic ! That 55 Ford sedan delivery was a rare item for sure ! It has the V8 emblem on the fender . Most likely a 272 cubic inch Y block . I see the holes in the hood for the front hood emblem , which is missing. I see where you get your picture taking abilities from !Re: How bad can the T.O.W road be? sue.t wrote: This was my first trip across the Top of the World Highway in September 1957, with my parents. I don't remember it though; I was born six months later. :B Great picture Sue ! Thanks for sharing . My feeble memory recalls the road being virtually unchanged 13 years later in 1970 . I recall some sort of a truck stop on top of a steep grade on the left just before entering Alaska . Which by the way had nothing but a sign on both the Yukon and Alaska side . I thought it odd back then that there were so many fully loaded tractor trailers traversing this route back then . More trucks than 4 wheelers . Was that a 55 or 56 Ford Station Wagon your folks were in back in 57 ? Or perhaps a MercuryRe: How bad can the T.O.W road be?an entirely different experience and road when in the summer of 1970 we traveled this route . The adventure, has mostly been erased .
