He is in his Class C, on a trip between CA and OK, and has blown a tire. He knows that he's due for new tires, but is having some issues with locating the Michelin XPS Ribs (10 ply "E" rating, with metal mesh sidewalls), which apparently have to be special ordered for his RV. The Tire store recommended the LTX-M/S tire, with the same ratings, but it doesn't have the metal sidewalls. Is it really going to make a difference? He doesn't mind the extra money, if it's a safer tire having the metal sidewalls. Of course, it is ironic that the tire with the metal sidewall is what blew out when he hit one of California's many potholes!! He's on the road, so I'm going to send him texts of your comments. He knows he's going to be buying new tires all the way around on his RV (save that new tire as a spare), but wants to make the smart/safe choice. He's got basically the same RV as I do (31' Winnie), so I'm also interested.:) What would you recommend. I know that I probably should have posted this in the technical forum, but when I looked there, most of the tire stuff was for P/Us and trailers...not much for a Class C. Thanks in advance.Re: Virginia to MaineRunning up I-95 may seem terrible, but you won't have any height issues, as the trucks go that way, and they are going to make sure that they don't hit any low heights. It really depends on what you want to do.....sightsee during the trip, or get up to Maine ASAP. I drive I-95 all the time, from NC to NY and often up to Boston, so I'm familiar with it....and as I said, it may not be scenic, but there are plenty of stops and service areas...and you well seldom be alone on the road. Best advice is to try and schedule your trip through NYC, to try and a avoid the worst of the traffic....for me, that is after midnight, but before 6:00 inm the morning.Re: fuel Guage error?I don't know about that Winnie, but some of the MHs have issues with the fuel getting down into the tank, and will shut off the trigger well before the tank is full. While it may not always be a good idea to play with the trigger to get as much into the tank as possible, you may want to fiddle with it at least once, to see what "FULL" actually is on this rig. Once you know, I would then figure 7 mpg, and calculate the use based on mileage...say fill up when you have gone about 300 miles (42 gallons), which should give you plenty of "spare fuel", and you can try and figure from there. I have a faulty gauge in my car, and I've gotten to where I don't really trust it, so base my use on miles. Just make sure to give yourself enough extra so you don't end up on the side of the road (like I did once). Also...double check on that fuel tank capacity....it may be wrong? good luck and Happy CampingRe: Need advice. PA TO FLORIDA?I did a quick Google Maps search....from Myersdale to Savannah, and it offered two options (in addition to an airline...LOL!!) You can basically go west and take I-77 down or go East and take I-81 south.....or take I-81 down towards Richmond, VA, and then cut over to I-95 for the remainder of the trip south. A lot will depend on what you want to see. I you are trying to get south as quickly as possible, it looks like western route down I-77 would be the quickest, and may also be the most scenic. I think that is what I would recommend, but I've never taken it, so can't really say for sure. Others will probably have better information. That sounds like a great truck for the trip...the Hemi should have the power you need. Have a great trip!!Re: How do they do that? Some folks will install a backer board inside the cabinet, and then mount the flat-screen to that. It really depends on how your unit is situated, but there are so many different brackets available now, you should be able to find something that will work.....but it may also require some cabinet modifications.Re: A new line of pet trailers. Finally something I can tow with my Honda Fit!!:B I wonder if they have those darned corner beds??:BRe: Formaldehyde In Building MaterialsFormaldehyde was used in a majority of RVs over the years. As mentioned, those in New Orleans had people complaining about the FEMA trailers. One of the problems with those trailers, and the reasons behind the problems, was that they were put into use days after they were coming off the assembly line. Typically, the formaldehyde will "air out" of the trailer in a few weeks, as a natural part of the product, but these units were needed right away, so they didn't sit on a dealership lot or at the mfgr's lot as would normally be the case...and I guess nobody really thought about it. A few folks complained of headaches and such, when living in the trailers, and they blamed the formaldehyde. Then, once a couple of people had issues, it spread like wild fire, and EVERYONE was trying to get something for nothing. As far as I know, most (if not all) of the trailers that were used for temporary housing have been sold and reused, or FEMA has them in storage for the next emergency....and they are fine now. It was that "scare" after the hurricane, that has many of the manufacturers saying that they are now using non-formaldehyde products...But honestly, the smells that make that "new car" smell or the "new" carpet smell are just chemicals that are gassing off....and 99% of them are harmless. Pressure treated lumber was also "dangerous", and not recommended for use inside homes, though plenty of people have done it, and once painted, it is the same as any other lumber. Not that it's much adoe about nothing, but like so many things, the media makes mountains out of mole hills.... Bottom line...if you find two trailers that have all the features you want, and they are priced differently (because one is "greener"), I still think I'd buy the cheaper one. and then donate the money I saved to a good charity, or better yet, use it to go camping!!Re: National Park VandalI think her art work is beautiful...I think she should have the chance to paint on the walls of her cell! But then, my DW always says that I'm a softie:B Could someone post the link to the petition, I'd like to sign.Re: National Park VandalUnbelievable! When I first looked at some of the pictures, I thought that it was chalk, and would wash off....nope, not according to the articles. She's using acrylic paints! Sand paper would be to easy for her....I'd rather see her try and scrub it off bare handed....wear some skin off! I've spend time as a Boy Scout Leader, and we teach the boys that they should appreciate the places they go, and leave them in better shape than they were when they arrived. We always bring some trash bags with us, and would end up carrying out other people's trash. We leave with what we brought in, with memories, and photographs of wonderful times. We don't leave anything, except maybe some footprints, and try to avoid that! Painting these wonderful places is insane, and I that they catch her, and make an example of her!Re: How do you switch between holding tanks.Who did you buy it from? Can they help you? This seems like a strange question from someone who is Full Timing:h Sorry, I'm unfamiliar with your TT, but as 2Oldman wondered, why don't you have manuals.
