Life called a timeout with a couple family surgeries needing my attention. But, finally having 3 weeks without rain, I'm in a push to get it covered. It's been a wet summer. I will be picking it up soon as I need to cover it by the weekend. Again, sorry for the long wait.Re: Rebuilding a 5th wheel from the frame up.Cool. I've been trying to beat the weather. We've had a higher number of summer thunderstorms than normal so on better, sub 104° days, I've been out working. We actually installed the floor over the last couple weekends. There was a couple hick ups that caused delays. - We found water had entered the steel door frame and froze over winter so I rebuilt it. - The fresh water tank I want is the same width as the frame so I had to modify the cross beam. - I finally designed a way to apply the fiberglass sides in one full sheet so I simplified the design a bit. I'll get on catching up. Hopefully a couple posts over this week. Thanks for the interest. P.S. Anyone familiar with RV Parts Nation (www.rvpartsnation.com) in Elkhart IN? They will not asked my phone calls or emails.Re: Rebuilding a 5th wheel from the frame up.I'm currently working on the next blog page covering the frame prep. Mosey on over to ToyHaulerOverhaul.blog and follow for my updates.Re: Rebuilding a 5th wheel from the frame up. akcooper9 wrote: Rebuild blog Nice progress on the blog! Thank you. I'm battling between informative and long winded. I'm writing the design path we took now. Thinking I'll break it into a couple pieces.Re: Rebuilding a 5th wheel from the frame up.Ok, so I think I have the blog think figured out. I'll only posted the intro of how I got to this point. I'll add individual posts in groups documenting each stage that has already happened. Rebuild blogRe: Rebuilding a 5th wheel from the frame up.If I can't find enough straight 2x2's at the home stores I'll try ripping KD 2x4's and hope they stay straight.Re: Rebuilding a 5th wheel from the frame up. Bob E. wrote: Yeah...a lot of searching for sure. That's why I was asking for your shortcuts! HAHA!! Best advice is to look for surplus dealers in your area. I drove 950 miles round trip, stayed the night and still saved tons over shipping. I'm reusing the store/oven, microwave, heater, kitchen sink and wire but everything else will be new.Re: Rebuilding a 5th wheel from the frame up.The recent parts came from Stardeck RV in Corona CA. They are surplus at $1/inch of the longest side. We drove down over the weekend to pick them out. Other parts (siding, vents, skylight, screws) are from Amazon, eBay or whoever has the best price. A LOT of searching. We replaced the windows to go tinted and sliding (old ones where clear and crank) and the door to get rounded corners.Re: Rebuilding a 5th wheel from the frame up.I'm almost finished with the Sketch Up design, the trailer is striped to the frame and I'm still trying to figure out the blog process. I bought the windows, door, torsion hinge, 4 cargo doors and the underbelly fabric last weekend. Next up is removing the old load door springs, wire wheel and paint the rust areas before building the sub-floor.Re: Rebuilding a 5th wheel from the frame up.Haven't had time to research the blog due to pushing to get the design done. Here's what I have so far. Still need to model appliances so I can place vents, windows and door. In the mean time, I'm researching prices on the web. As far a the dismantle: Hoping to be to frame by the weekend after the 4th. With a good plan the shell should come together pretty quickly.
