That's what I was thinking, but wanted to get feedback from the "pros"!!Re: Parrot cages for the RVWhen you are in motion, does your parrot travel in the big cage or in a smaller travel cage? Especially interested in hearing from owners of African Greys. I would worry about stopping short or going over a bump or any number of things that could cause him to fall off his perch and get hurt.Re: Is this a good deal?I need one large enough to put in a full-size cage for my bird. I've seen layouts that work from 24' & up. I don't want to stay around 30', but that is not a requirement. I would like to take some "min-trips" throughout the year and maybe one long trip each year (2-3 months)...great way to get out of Tucson for the summer! Total annual mileage will probably be 5000+ on average. I started looking at the Class C first. Class A was not even on my radar screen due to size and cost. But after just sitting in the driver's seat, the Class A was way more comfortable for me and I like being up higher. In the Class C, I could not bring the seat up enough. I felt too low and did not have the same level of comfort & security. I could care less about the "snob factor", if there really is one. I have not yet driven either, so that's my next step. Maybe I'll find the C easier to drive?? I think I will stick to gas. I don't think I am going to need a DP and it sounds like a gas rig is cheaper and easier to maintain. My budget is @ $70,000 (not to exceed $80,000 with tax, license, etc.) I know I can get a newer C for that, but the driving comfort level will be the determining factor for me.Re: Is this a good deal?Got it. What is the maximum age & mileage I should consider for: Class A dp Class A gas Class C gas I don't want to get into costly repairs right off the bat, or worry about problems when I am on the road.Re: Is this a good deal? How do you find "top of the line"; is there a listing somewhere by manufacturer or another thread that discusses makes & models in more detail (what is good, what is not)?Re: Is this a good deal?Soren, would you please tell me which dealer that was, if not here, then privately? I definitely plan to use an RV Inspector, since I do to know all the questions to ask or what to look for! This is harder than buying a house! I need to do a lot more research and also get out and drive a few rigs to see what is the most comfortable for me. What about internet sales, rather than local? I am wary about buying anything, sight-unseen, but if I have it inspected, it is worth the chance? Of course, then I would have to fly out to the location to pick up the rv and the sale isn't final until I see it and like it?? That may not be worth the extra expense for airfare and then driving the rv back home or adding the cost to ship. Anyone have direct experience with that? I am so thrilled to know this forum is here and how helpful you all are!!!Re: Is this a good deal?I have been to La Mesa, Lazydays & Freedom (both locations), but not Pedata. Good to know they are all reputable dealers. I really liked the people at Lazydays and their "philosophy". The sales person spent several hours with me, showing me different RVs and explaining the differences. There was no pressure at all. They said whenever I want to come back, I am welcome, whether I buy now or in a year, or not at all. They also offer free driver training classes and a 3-night stay at their Camping Wprld RV park. Thanks for all the advice on what to buy and what to look for. After reading about Forest River on some other forums, I think it may not be a good option. I will try to stay with your recommendations. Gas or DP (yes, I know there are other forums where this has been discussed "to death"); is one easier to drive for a petite newbie?Re: Is this a good deal? Thanks for the responses. I have been doing research on the forums for a few weeks now and also went to several dealers to get an idea of what is available and costs. I am not yet ready to buy, so all and any assistance is greatly appreciated. Anyone have direct experience with 2009 Forest River Class A?? I have just been reading some "horror" stories. How about a Holiday Rambler? Does anybody have recommendations on what make/models are "best". As a single "senior" woman, I would not be doing my own maintenance or repairs, so I want something that will be reliable and not take a significant amount of "support".Is this a good deal?I am thinking about getting an RV. Have been doing a lot of research and think it may be a good way to travel with my dog & bird. I plan to travel an average of 30-90 days per year; 4000+ miles per year. I am looking at 30-34' used Class C and Class A (dp & gas) options. I find the Class A may work better for me as far as driving comfort. At just under 5', the Class C feels like I am siting in a well! I just came across a listing for a 2009 Georgetown XL 378, Class A gas, 37' (a little more than I wanted, but should be OK) for $62,995. It has 19,995 miles and loads of amenities, including a fireplace, washer-dryer combo and air mattress, just to name a few. The pictures look really nice; I plan to take a look at it tomorrow. Does this sound like a good deal? Is that too much mileage for a 2009? What should I look for and what questions should I ask to be sure it is in optimal condition. I don't want to save a few $$ upfront, only to have it cost more in maine & repairs. Thanks.Re: Parrot cages for the RVI have a 12-yr old African Grey. I also live in AZ (Tucson); moved here about 2 yrs ago from SoCal and Fiki is also a plucker. He is not used to traveling and I have a hard time getting him into his travel cage when we do, but he always seems to enjoy the trip once we get going. He rides in the passenger seat with his cage tethered down. I am seriously considering an RV, so I can take trips and be able to bring Fiki and also my dog. I am looking at a class c or class a, minimum 24', maximum 33'. I have looked at several and looks like removing a swivel seat would provide plenty of room for a full cage. Any recommendations as to "ideal" cage size. At home he has a dome top cage 36" x 28" (with seed skirt) and 62" high. I expect I can scale down for the RV; may a 24 x 20 x 60? Also, can you drive with the grey in his full cage or do you always use the small travel cage when in motion? I am hoping that an RV will free me up to take both short 3-day trips, as well as longer (maybe 1 - 3 months) and can go whenever I want without having to make special arrangements for the bird (no problem with taking my dog.) Any recommendations or sharing your experiences will be very much appreciated. Thanks. Ellen
