We too are moving to a new site on Monday (Jan 23) We already know that we will be in for storms here in Florida for most of the weekend. Before the rain and while it's dry I bring in my awning, stow the BBQ and all our solar lights. What most people forget to do while driving in the rain is to slow down. It never ceases to amaze me how even when the speed limit is 75 MPH try to do 90 in the rain. Really? what's the hurry? Slow down and live. Can't even remember how many RV's I have seen off the road and I can likely guarantee that speed and driver error was the cause.Re: Getting New Tires -- Jack Up Points For Installers To Use?I just finished repacking the bearings on my Artic Fox 295T. I put an 8 ton hydraulic jack under the axle of one side and then put them on an axle stand. Essentially doing one wheel at a time. I would be hard pressed to try and lift the trailer by jacking up the I beam. Common sense would take that as a foolhardy move. Just consider, when you try to jack up the trailer on the I beam, you are essentially trying to tip approximately 50% of the trailers weight on one jack. As a mechanical engineer I stongly believe in working safe at all times. Trying to lift 1/2 the trailers weight at one time and risking twisting the entire frame is fool hardy at best at worst downright dangerous.Re: New to usWelcome to the group and your new rig. Will you be full timers?Re: Truck tiresI wouldn't consider anything but Michelin tires. I use all season for smooth quiet ride. I inflate the rears to 60 psi while towing.Re: Dirty Slide-out SealsI would under no circumstance use WD40 on anything rubber. It has a petroleum base like kerosene which will degrade anything rubber. I use Camco Slide Seal lubricate. It goes on as a foam so you know where to spray it. When the foam dries it leave the rubber soft and supple.Re: Holiday Rambler 5th Wheel Slide Out ProblemObviously there is nothing wrong with the slide motor at all. I know I have a warning on my slide switches that say "Only operate with fully charged battery". It may be that your batteries just weren't fully charged hence it wouldn't move that slide. It may also be that it has the largest motor and draws the most amps. I make a point of putting my slides out while still attached to the truck and the truck running. That way your batteries should be fully charged when you do disconnect.Re: Canadian Difficulty finding Insurance for Full TimingI use Wayfarers as well and I believe they do all provinces not just Ontario. One piece of advice I can offer though. Don't let an insurance company convince you that they can give you a better price if they bundle all your policies together. While it may well be true what they don't tell you in the result of a claim on your RV. If for example you put in a claim for your awning damaged in a windstorm, it will affect all your other policies as well. Wayfarer also gives you a discount if you belong to Good Sam and Explorers.Re: No GeneratorI have an Energizer 2.8 Kw inverter generator which can run our refrigerator and A/C at the same time. I don't think a regular refrigerator would be wise in a fifth wheel. Okay in a class A which has an on-board generator which can run all the time. It would take a pretty good sized battery bank and inverter to support a residential refrigerator full time. I would think that weight and space would be a considerable consideration. IMHORe: 5th wheel popped out of hitchHaving driven an 18 wheeler for a number of years before you raise the landing gear, do a tug test. The same thing should apply to a 5th wheel rv. Remove the chocks and do a tug test. More than once it's saved my ass.Re: 2008 GULFSTREAM CRESCENDO - Thoughts?I would say that Newmar is in a class of it's own. While Gulfstream no longer makes motorhomes. Holiday Rambler has a wide range of models from the inexpensive no frills to top of the line. The beauty of Newmar is that I believe all their pushers have a side mounted radiator, a real plus.
