I was able to get the motorhome in to Diesel Technologies in Fresno CA. yesterday. They called this morning with the news my motorhome was repaired. Diesel tech found it hard to believe I had taken the MH in to Cummins Pacific (formally Cummins West) 4 times and they hadn't caught the simple repair of the turbo pressure sensor switch. Anyway the engine is running better than it has in some time and we are very happy campers. A foot note: The repairs were less than half what I had been paying at Cummins Pacific for a no fix repair.Re: Cummins 2005 ISL low power AGAIN!Trust me when I say, that the ISL is low on horsepower when the problem occurs, Cummins says this particular engine boost should be between 35 - 37 pounds of boost. Cummins also has confirmed there is a problem with this engine, however they have said there is nothing on this engine that will limit the boost because the engine is not up to temperature. The very first time I took the MH to Cummins I had done a little research and asked if it might be the EGR valve, (a known problem), their service tech told me he didn't think it is the EGR valve. The last time I had the MH there, their mechanic stated in his report, the next step would be to check the EGR valve or the turbo. The turbo has been checked twice by them already. I have given up on Cummins Pacific and they have given up on me, and my MH. I have an appointment with a Diesel Tech company in Fresno, just needed to wait until the end of race season to get the MH to them.Re: Cummins 2005 ISL low power AGAIN!Just a quick update. The low boost on this ISL Cummins engine is still happening. Cummins Pacific has now told me, they know there is a problem, but they do not know how to fix it, and they do not need my business any longer. I have now made an appointment with a local diesel shop, and they believe the problem is the GSR valve. Funny, this is what I had asked Cummins Pacific a long time ago, and they said they didn't think that the GSR valve was the problem.Re: Trouble with Workhorse 8.1 motor loosing powerWhat year is this 8.1? On the older 8.1s there was a problem with the crankshaft sensor getting hot and warping, when this happened the vehicle would shut off. After the sensor cooled down the engine would re-fire and run normal again.Re: 05 Monaco w/ 400 Cummins ISL low power /smoke.Just a quick up date on the low power and black smoke. Cummins Pacific put my motorhome on their dyno this week. The tech said the rig was blowing black smoke and he felt like it was down on power when he was pulling the RV into the bay. Shut it off while he was hooking everything up including a date logger so he could document the dyno run. Started the run on the dyno and took it up to 90% load. The data logger showed the turbo was putting out 42 lbs. of boost, and there was now no black smoke. Everything was performing just as it should. I went to pickup our RV and asked if I could take it for a ride before we settled the bill. On this drive the RV was down on power and was blowing black smoke again. Took it back to Cummins Pacific and settled up on the bill. Left there and now no black smoke and she is running as she should. No one seems to be able to pin point what the problem is, I've asked if it could be an o2 sensor or a map sensor but was told no, that it would throw a code and the check engine light would light up. Sorry to be so long winded, just very frustrated no one can fix our problem.Re: 05 Monaco w/ 400 Cummins ISL low power /smoke.ScottG, Cummins is thinking it's electronic or electrical since it fixes it's self when the ignition is turned off, and then refired.Re: 05 Monaco w/ 400 Cummins ISL low power /smoke.Went by Cummins Pacific formally Cummins West. They are going to re-flash my ECM to the latest upgrades. If that doesn't fix my problem they are going to install a data recorder. I'm to hit the cruise control multiple times when the problem is occurring. So next week I will take it in, it's a start and Dennis in service thinks the re-flash might fix the problem. I will follow up on this post when I get home from Cummins.05 Monaco w/ 400 Cummins ISL low power /smoke.Have been trying to find out what our engine problem is for awhile now. Cummins national and Cummins West in Fresno does not know what is causing the engine to have low boost and black smoke out the tail pipe. When we start out after a short warm-up the problem is there, drive a few minutes and pull over, shut the engine down and restart after 20 seconds. 7 out of 10 times the problem will be gone. I asked Cummins national and after the 3rd different techs. I was told they are 2 separate issues. When I asked why both issues are gone at the same time, after the shut down, no one knew. I've been told that a data logger might be able to detect the problem, but when I told them that there are no codes in the computer then they were unsure that this device would work. By the way I spent $518.00 the last time at Cummins West for them to tell me the pacbrake is not the problem as well as the inter cooler is working properly and all fittings are tight. I asked about an ECM reflash and was told this would not solve my problem. If anyone has an idea I'm willing to try just about anything right now.8000 Onan hot under the collarWe were heading to one of my grandson's races in Stockton CA. last weekend, temperature was a hovering around 100 degrees (it's a dry heat) Our Onan 8000 quit working, at first I thought maybe we were low enough on fuel and bouncing along on our wonderful California highway 99. Restarted it 3 more times to no avail. Stopped in Ripon CA. to fuel up, it still wouldn't run. Gave up and worked in the pits for my grandson's race, (he won) so that made things much better. Decided to see what was up with the generator on Tuesday, found 1 broken belt (1757 hours) I thought this might be the culprit. $12.37 from Cummins West and about 3 hours of work and she is purring like she always has.
