I'm pulling a 35 ft. fiver with a Ram 3500 diesel. Any suggestions much appreciated! DavidRe: Gray tank neck crack (is patching possible? Plasti-Mend?)) A $20 heating iron type of kit with some appropriate rod will take care of it in a jiffy. http://www.harborfreight.com/80-watt-iron-plastic-welding-kit-60662.html Jose I took the new tank that had cracked around the neck when dropped to a tank repair place in Mesa. Three techs declared it "DOA" due to the high stresses the neck is subject to. So much for Plasti-Mend! Fortunately, my repair facility finally got a response from the original Kansas tank manufacturer who will sort through their Excel molds to find the right one. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. __________________ David 2014 Excel Winslow 31 IKE 2013 Ram 3500 Mega Cab, diesel, 4x4Re: Gray tank neck crack (is patching possible? Need a pic to give opinion on the specific placement of repair. Will try a pic Thursday morning but it may not show up well on a black tank. This is an ABS tank so needs a solvent-bonding repair. Thank you! DavidRe: Gray tank neck crack (is patching possible? Plasti-Mend?)) ScottG wrote: Hard to imagine anything is 7 days away these days. Unless the part has to be made, they should be able to ship FedEx P1 and get it the next day. Heck, I used to ship airplane parts "counter to counter" and get them there in a few hours. These tanks come in so many different measurements, that they're basically only made on demand using an existing mold. A bad sign is that the tank manufacturer hasn't responded to the repair facility's request, and it's been over a day.Gray tank neck crack (is patching possible? Plasti-Mend?))Am stuck in Apache Junction after a cracked gray water tank replacement on my 2014 Excel Winslow 31 IKE went awry. Unbelievably, they dropped the new tank on a cement floor while carrying it to the rig, causing a small separation (about an inch wide) right at the neck/tank juncture. The experienced RV tech insists that there’s no reliable way to repair it, meaning I’ll have to wait 7-10 days for another tank. I’ve read some prior posts from those who have successfully patched cracks. Is the location of mine located at too vulnerable a place subject to high stress? Thanks, DavidRe: Bed rail clearance with 4wd pickup and fiverI have checked this many times. The 2013 3500 mega cab's short box is definitely 6'4". Please see Ram 3500 product brochure at: http://goo.gl/SL0ZN I doubt if they made a typo. DavidRe: Bed rail clearance with 4wd pickup and fiver Miles Away wrote: I don't mean to rain on your parade, however the short box on the Dodge you are looking at should be called a "mini" box. It is really short. I know several fiver owners who tried it and found it to be too short to properly accommodate a fifth wheel trailer especially when making tight turns or backing. Newer trailers may already have the axles mounted below the springs, so you may not have and adjustment there. I had to swap out the rear leaf spring brackets to lower the back of my truck two inches in order to lower the front of my fiver and still maintain the six inch clearance between the trailer and truck bed rails. Yes, the Ram short box box is just 6'4", but Gary's picture above (Ram short box) indicates that a 5th wheel fit can be achieved with a slider hitch and with added help from the newer Excel's cut-back (contoured) lower front corners. That's what I'm banking on (hopefully!). Thank you for your comment. DavidRe: Bed rail clearance with 4wd pickup and fiverGary, Thank you so much. Very helpful to this spatially-challenged newbie. That photo is definitely worth a thousand words. DavidRe: Bed rail clearance with 4wd pickup and fiver rhagfo wrote: Pin box height and bed rail height are not directly related. It is bed rail and distance from the ground to the bottom of the upper part of the 5er that will determine if you will need to work raise the 5er. OK, that makes sense, even though someone had to point it put out to me. Thanks! DavidRe: Bed rail clearance with 4wd pickup and fiver MNRon wrote: Nice rig you're getting. I'd give Excel a call. I find it hard to believe that their new 5er's don't accommodate current truck heights. Not exactly the same, but I too was worried about clearance issues when we got our 5er this spring. Turns out a 2013 4wd Silverado 3500 fits nicely under a 2005 HH with a Demco pin box. Thank you for posting your reassuring experience. BTW, a HH was also at the top of my choice list. David L.
