All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: She still has it!OP here I originally posted this in 2016 with 240,xxx miles on the truck. It's 2020 and today on a trip to Ocean Shores I I hit 350,000 miles and still going strong. In the last hundred thousand plus miles I have replaced one rear axel seal, IPR valve and one fuel injector. Everything else is still factory on the truck. Right now I'm towing about 10,000 pounds with 2400 miles this summer alone. Every time I think about a new truck I stop because this old girl is paid for and still doing the job well.Re: 6.0l 301,112 milesBedlam that was a nice set up you had there. I always have been tell me how terrible my truck is and that its going to blow up on me and often its total strangers while at the gas station. Most of the time I just look at them and smile. I keep up on oil changes and everything which has helped. When I drive her I work her hard not to the point of abuse but I do push her. I don't have any additional filtration for oil or coolant. At times I kick the idea of getting a 6.7L but then I think about the payment and I snap out of it.6.0l 301,112 milesJust returned from a trip and she is at 301,112 miles. She is a 2005 6.0l F250 CC 4x4. At 298,XXX miles I had to replace the radiator due to puncture from road debris, 296,XXX I replaced all bushings and ball joints and axle seals on the front plus u joints. I had a failed u joint but figured I would replace other items while I had the time. Overall she has been reliable with the only break downs being an egr cooler, FICM and vacuum pump for engaging front hubs. Still running factory injectors but plan to replace this summer as prevention. Also still on factory head gaskets. No tune but I run her hard towing and running trails in the mountains. Hope to check back in at 400,000 with good news but I do realize I'm lucky to have gotten this far with so few issues. She still has it!http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/28689042.cfm The start of summer and summer trips and the old girl still has it. So I just came back from a 600 mile round trip towing the trailer and all went well. I'm now at 240,121 miles and running strong. For me the concern is not from my truck being a 6.0l instead it's just from the miles. And because they have all been hard miles. On my return trip home I had to climb up I90 through vantage which for those who have driven know can present a challenge for any tow vehicle. Anyway I was happy with how well the old truck did pulling that hill. I was able to maintain 60 with enough pedal left to pass slow moving trucks as needed. Outside temp was 89deg my coolant temp was 219 oil temp 220 Trans temp 170. During some stretches when I was passing slower vehicles Temps were plus 10. As I stated I was very happy with how well she did but I do know the day will come as it does with all vehicles that she will need to head to the shop or even worse be put out to pasture and retired.Re: 2003 2500 Suburban 8.1That model suburban is indeed highly sought after so he should have no issues getting his money back when he resells it. While he is using it your friend should be very happy with how it performs while towing minus gas milage.Re: 6.0 Running Strong Lantley wrote: What is bizarre about the thread is the need to proclaim the 6.0 is a good running truck. Those with the other brand diesels don't need to make that point. The trucks reputation speaks for itself. I don't think anyone who follows trucks believes every single 6.0 is bad. However most who follows trucks of the 6.0 era aware of the problems and terrible reputation/history of the truck. The OP feels the need to proclaim he has a great running 6.0 PSD no problem. But that does not change my poor opinion of the engine. Nor does it erase the poor reliability history the engine or change the notorious reputation of the 6.0 PSD trucks. At the end of the day Ford spent lots of money and put a lot of effort into making the 6.0 PSD's right and never quite got it right. Today we speak of needing to have the engine's bullet proofed. The other brands of that era do have stellar reputations and don't require bullet proofing. A few 6.0 PSD have run well and traveled lots of miles with no issues. The OP's truck is proof that there are 6.0's that are reliable. However the poor resale value and lawsuits between Ford and Navistar are proof that too many trucks had major costly issues that ruined the reputation of the 6.0. A few good 6.0 PSD will not erase the horrendous past of the truck. Despite bullet proofing and other fixes that were eventually developed many including myself will not touch a 6.0 PSD simply because there are better options that don't require bulletproofing or fixes. Why take a gamble or risk at this point, on a well known and documented problem plagued engine? Because you may find that needle in a haystack? OP here, I am a truck guy and a diesel guy and a veteran who believes in any of the big three brands. I just happen to be a Ford guy mainly. Now the reality is all makes and models have issues some more or less than others and more or less hyped as others the 6.0 has its issues that's for sure. But I happen to have one I love and has served me well. As for the previous comment about the need to proclaim my happiness with my truck, well that's just a foolish comment entirely. This site and many others has thread upon thread of people who post about there trailers, trucks and mods as they apply. And we all spend hours browsing the sits to learn new ticks to dream and see what the other guy is running. What to me is interesting is why a title saying I'm happy with my 6.0 would draw a person in with the soul intent to be malicious. There are many threads saying they hate there 6.0 and other descriptive wording that would be a great place to post. I guess in the end I'm a Ford guy who likes his ford nothing more nothing less.Re: 6.0 Running StrongDid not expect this many replies. After 10 years of ownership I have been around the ring with many friends and Co workers telling me how bad my truck is. The funny thing is my experience has involved many calls asking me to come with the trailer to pick them and their broken down vehicles to include a lot of diesels. Sure many people have had issues with the 6.0 and at some point mine will too after all it is a decade old now. And it has been riden hard and put away wet way more times than is good. All I can say is mine has served me and my family well.Re: Maxxis Bravo 771 tireI got them from Pep Boys. I paid $174.99 each.Maxxis Bravo 771 tireA few months ago I began researching new tires to buy next spring after paying off Christmas bills. Due to running over debris and severely damaging 2 tires I was forced into getting tires well ahead of schedule and available funds. As a result I had to get the first ones available at a good price. The Maxxis Bravo 771 size 285/70 r17 ended up being that tire I got. I was not able to find any real reviews or opinions so I figured I would post my impression of them. They have a fairly aggressive pattern for an all terrain with ery deep tread depth. On road they behave and respond in a predictable and responsive manner with minimal noise. Driving in the rain as I often do in Seattle they have performed way better than expected with great stopping and handling in deep water filled ruts. During a recent trip across Snoqualmie pass and to Paradise at Mt . Rainier in snow covered roads I was able to use two wheel drive for most of the time until the snow got pretty deep. I have yet to try them in mud but feel they would do well for an all terrain. Overall I would say I stumbled into an impressive tire and at this point would buy them all over again when the time comes.6.0 Running StrongWanted to chime in to represent the happy 6.0 powerstroke owner's. 2005 f250 powerstroke with 221,400 miles and running strong. All I have done is replace one FICM board and wear items like ball joints and brakes. The truck has been worked hard towing and hauling from day one on and off road. Very happy and looking forward to hitting 300k. Anyway just wanted to chime in for those of us who are happy with the 6.0l
