All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Financing Q'sWe took out a personal loan, no questions on what the money is used for. Doing this, we were able to pay cash for the trailer. Our loan was big enough that we used it to buy the trailer, replace a few things on it, like generator and pay off a few other things. By paying off a few things, our monthly outgoing payments didn't change. The trailer will be paid off within 5 years. I know this might not be the best way to go about it, but so far it seems to be working out the best for us.Re: Anyone camp at Fairview Campground in Kernville? lanerd wrote: I think your best bet would be to come up Hwy 14 to the 178. You'll have to go over Walker's Pass (about a 7% grade close to the top) and then down into Kern Valley. Once down in Weldon, take the right turn to Kernville. Much better than trying to come up 178 out of Bakersfield through Kern Canyon. Ron x2 This is the way I do it when heading up to the Kern.Re: Selling Trailer with Expired TagWill the DMV issue a temporary trip permit? My parents use to get a trip permit every time they drove to Oregon from California. They would stop at the first DMV office they came across and picked one up.Re: I'm curious ?My wife and I started looking for a used TH last year. While looking, we came across many that had structural damage at one time or another. Most, if not all that we found were considered super lites or ultra lites, while they were lite, they were also flimsy, most notable the trailer frames. Most looked like Swiss cheese with the holes cut in them to bring the weight down. The range in years that we were looking at were from 2002-present. We ended up with what we think is a very solidly built TH. Here are some specs: 1998 Fleetwood Terry 26A Sport Utility Trailer Overall length is 29'7" UVW: 6150 (according to Fleetwood, that weight includes all standard features, appliances and mattresses - minus the AC, LPG and the second fresh water tank.) GVWR: 9600 Payload: 3450 Since picking it up in March I have replaced; the brakes, repacked the bearings, switched to LED lights and replaced that 17yr old Generac. So far with 2 short trips, 700 miles total, we have been very happy with the TH. We are getting ready this week for a 4000 mile, 1 month long trip to Oregon that we start next Monday.Re: Reservations for popular campgroundsI have some friends that always stay at Carlsbad State Beach every June. They are online and booking at 12:01 am on Jan 1st. That place fills up that fast.Re: Someone reported me and my dog dockmasterdave wrote: There is nothing wrong with the breed. Ask anyone who has owned a good pit, they will tell you they are the sweetest dogs. The problem lies with the HUMANS. No there should not be breed restrictions. Maybe there should be human restrictions. Thank you for saying this. My Chihuahua is much more aggressive than my Staffy/Whippet (which most would see a Pit). Which is why the chihuahua stays inside the TH unless out for a walk. I work with a dog rescue and have had many different breeds of foster dogs. Every singe dog that has come through with aggressive tendencies have been because of the piss poor humans that owned them prior to dumping them at the pound or on the street. As for temperament test. Breed Temperaments Staffordshire Bull Terrier has a 90.7% pass rating, while the Whippet has an 86% pass rating. The Chihuahua has a pass rating of 69.8%. I feel safer with my children around my big bad Staffy than I do with my Chihuahua any day, and that's a well behaved Chihuahua at that. As with any breed, the owner should be mindful and always in control of their dog. This is especial true of pitbull owners, since they seem to get the baddest rap. Here's a Ceaser Millam quote: “In the 70s they blamed Dobermans, in the 80s they blamed German Shepherds, in the 90s they blamed Rottweilers. Now they blame the Pit Bull. When will they blame the humans?” How about instead of demonizing this mans dog. We look at the real issue. Which was his lapse in judgment and how he was controlling or lack there of, of his dog.Re: Bridge Height ClearanceI use Camp and RV from the Google Play Store. Has a ton of filters including bridge heights, water/waste stations, grades, gas stations, parks, stores, LPG, ect, ect, ect for your route. Costs about $10, but so far its been worth it. Camp and RVRe: Rusty HitchAre you talking about the inside of the coupler itself? I just use a bit of lithium grease on the ball before dropping the trailer down on it. As for the rust, you can probably just use a bit of sandpaper on it, then maybe hit it with some spray paint.Re: Harbor Freight 45 Watt Solar KitThat seems like a pretty good deal depending on the usage. Although something like this may be better. Never after 8PM or before 6AM... It's the same at every CG I've been to here on west coast and that exactly how we do it. You would never hear my generator running at 8am let alone 6am unless I'm out in a dispersed area. I have an on the stove percolator and an inverter. I see no reason to wake up in the morning and run a generator for a cup of coffee. I'm thinking that running it between 9:30am and 11:30am then again in the afternoon, before campers get settled in for dinner, like a 3 -5 kind of thing.
