And it still won't be enough time.Re: Why do You Workamp (or volunteer)Sooooo, why do I workamp or volunteer? For one I just plain got tired of having to winterize my rig every late fall! Also tired of the same job and area. We took early retirement, sold the house and hit the road. We pick and chose where we want to live each summer and winter. Sometimes we will chose to work and get paid, but we also get to see that area. Money is money, always a use for it and there's never to much. We volunteer for different reasons, mostly somewhere that we find interesting, doing interpretive for fed gov wildlife refuges or helping out in state parks. Yes we get a free site and all the electric, water and sewer we can use. We have never been treated poorly volunteering and plan to volunteer this entire summer and winter on the Oregon coast. Maybe we'll see a few of you there...I'll be the old guy in the volunteer garb!Re: cape hatteras? We worked at Camp Hatteras last summer. Great place to stay. All paved with concrete pads for your rig. Yes, it was hit by a hurricane last July 4th weekend, but we had it cleaned up and reopened 2 days after we were allowed back on the island. (Mandatory evac) We stayed on the sound side since you could actually see water and sunsets were remarkable over the Pamlico Sound. And yes, golf carts are allowed. Usually quieter on sound side to since everyone want to be on the ocean side...Re: Fuel station on Outer Banks, NCDrop the trailer at the KOA and drive back to North Beach Campground. They have a general store and fuel station. I found them cheaper for diesel. Was on the island all last summer.Re: Here's To You FT Folks! We planned and researched for at least 10 yrs while still working and taking lots of weekend trips and vacations. Sometimes we would just get a forest service campsite for a week and commute back and forth. Took early retirement 3.5 years and sold it all 3 years ago and hit the road. Best thing we ever did! Now we workamp and volunteer our way around the country. Right now sitting in southern AZ...Re: Closed: Workamping topicsGood to know. As a fulltimer and summer Workamper I figured when it said "closed" the job was filled. Now we just won't know for sure. I do see the same negativity on the workamping Facebook groups though so I do understand.Re: Rope Lights...really work for rodents?I might add, all the rope lights are white. There are no red, blues or greens. One even runs underneath the hood of the car. I guess I could just ask a few of them. It could just be for light at night, it is extremely dark here at night and nobody it seems turns on the scare lights. Makes it nice, can see the stars and Milky Way, if the dang moon wasn't so bright! :)Re: Rope Lights...really work for rodents? Some are semi perm, here for the winter. Some are just around the patio areas, which is for aviance I reckon. Some completely surrounds the rv. Others just have the rope lights completely underneath the rv and some under the toads and pickups... Near Carlsbad...Re: Retire: give it all up at 58 and RV?Took early retirement at 53, was on the road 8 months later. No regrets! No plans to quit any time soon.Re: How long full timing?I'm gonna bring the average down a bit, 2.5 years here with no plans to stop anytime soon.
