The curb weight of the Expedition is 5,500 lbs and the GCWR is 15,000 lbs, so it looks like I'm good...right? Thanks again, Ben09' Expedition Tow VehicleGood Evening, I own a Forrest River Wildwood 261 BHXL Travel Trailer, 27Ft, 4,300 lbs unloaded. I don't have the GVWR but I think if I add another 1,500 lbs for a total of 5,800 lbs I should be close. I currently tow with an 03' F150 with Tow package and it tows very nicely. Keep in mind I only travel around Michigan so it's mostly flat. I'm really missing 3rd tow seating, so I'm looking at an 09' Expedition with the tow package (not the extended length model). The tow rating is 8,700 lbs which sounds fine, however, I'm wondering if the reduced length/wheelbase compared to the F150 could effect the ease of towing? Thanks in advance! BenTrailer Life Typo?I was researching towing capacity for an 03 Ford F150 Supercrew 4x4. I noticed that Trailer Life lists this vehicle with the 3.55 gear ratio having a higher towing capacity than the 3.73. However, this is only for the Supercrew. Am I missing something, or was there a mistake in the book. I posted the link below: http://www.trailerlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Trailer-Life-Towing-Guide-2003.pdf Also, I looked in my owner's manual and it lists 8,100 lbs with 3.73 gear ration and towing package. Which should I go with?Re: Towing 4500 lb dry TT 03' F150Has anyone towed in the mountains out west with their vehicle?Re: Towing 4500 lb dry TT 03' F150Thanks everyone! Payload shouldn't be a problem. It is 1600lbs for the truck minus 800lbs tongue weight/hitch, and I'm left with 800lbs for my family. We are only a combined 450lbs. So, if I'm reading everyone's responses correctly, it looks like we should be fine?Towing 4500 lb dry TT 03' F150Hello, I own an 03' Ford f150 v8 5.4L with the 3.73 gear ratio. The tow rating says 7100 but I'm not sure if that is for the 3.55 or 3.73 ratio. It also has the payload package. I'm looking to purchase a TT that weighs 4500 dry. I've been camping for some time and can realistically estimate I will have around 800 lbs of gear. Most of my trips would be in flat Michigan, however, I would think about driving out west maybe every couple years. Will this vehicle do the job? Thanks in advance! BenRe: Generator not making a soundI wanted to post a follow-up. Saturday morning I checked the water level in the coach battery and it was full, also plates were in excellent condition. There was a little bit of corrosion on the cables and battery so I sanded it off. Next, I connected the cables to the battery again, but made sure they were securely fastened. Pressed prime on the generator for about 5 seconds, heard a click, pressed start, and it started right up! So, it looks like it was simply an issue of the cables either not being securely connected, the cables having a poor connection due to corrosion, or maybe a little of both. Either way, it's a beautiful thing when the fix is as easy as this one! Thanks everyone for your input! BenRe: Generator not making a soundI just took a quick look at my battery and did notice that I only have one negative wire attached to it. Would the generator be grounded to the underbody of the motorhome or would it run to the battery. I'm wondering if that could be the problem. It's too dark and late to get a very good look, I'll go back at it tomorrow. Thanks again!Generator not making a soundI have an onnan 4000 generator. Yesterday I pulled my motorhome out of storage and everything started up great except for the generator. I pressed the start button and the light on the switch blinked 3 times, but it seems like it has always done this. There was no clicking sound like it would normally make when it is trying to start. I pressed the prime button but again there was no clicking sound and the light on the switch did not turn on. Now whether I press the prime button or on button nothing happens. One time when I pressed the prime button it lit up briefly but then turned off again. It seems like the generator is not getting enough power from the coach battery, and possibly not getting any at all since now there are no sounds and the light on the switch does not turn on. However, the battery does have enough power to open the slideout so it isn't dead. I also found the fuse rocker switch located on the side of the unit. I moved it to the opposite side and then back again but this did not appear to do anything. Also, I've read about low oil being an issue and I did change the oil to rule that out so it shouldn't be a problem. I used about a quart and a half. Thank you so much in advance, very frustrated right now!Re: What can I safely pull? Thanks Larry that was very helpful. Here's what I'm thinking, please let me know if my math/logic is correct and reasonable: Ford f 150 towing capacity- 7,700 lbs Payload- 1,500 lbs TT- Dry 4,500 TT Tongue Wt (13%)- 559 lbs Family- 400 lbs (and growing) Hitch- 100 lbs Gear- 1,000 lbs TOTAL TONGUE WT- 1059 So, my plan would be to not add anything to the vehicle (Larry, I hear what you're saying, however, purchasing a bigger vehicle isn't practical for my every day driving or wallet). Therefore, the 1,000 lbs of gear would go in the trailer bringing it to 5,500 pounds. CORRECTION- If I add 1,000 lbs to the trailer my Tongue Weight will be 1,215 lbs Does my math seem correct? It seems like this would work, but I would rather hear any concerns now, than find myself stuck on the side of the road in the mountains. Thanks!
