As stated in the first reply that I posted, I'm not hooked up to water/sewer - and I drained/winterized the water lines before I got here. I'm leaving the spot open at the steps. The photo shows the east side of the MH - prevailing winds are from the west/north-west. Sis' house also acts as a wind-break as I'm parked on the east side of the house.Re: Foam panel skirting jhilley wrote: What kind of a difference did the straw bales make? Can't say for certain since I put the bales in place shortly after I got here about a month ago. The floor is cold, but I'm certain that it would be MUCH colder without the bales in place as a wind-break.Re: Foam panel skirtingI was able to obtain some 'older' straw bales at no cost to put around the MH. This is how everything looked earlier this morning. Re: Foam panel skirtingThanks. I saw one posting about building a frame - will probably go that route. I won't be hooking up to water nor sewer and I have already winterized my water lines. Won't be doing hardly any cooking in the MH, all that will take place inside Sis' house - may use the microwave for a 'hot toddy'! I'll have both electric and propane available for heat. Just wanting to make the floor a bit warmer.Re: 1994 Brave TV Coax re-wireWhichever method you use to make the new connection, be sure to use high-quality RG-6 cable. Don't skimp by buying the cheap stuff.Foam panel skirtingA family medical issue has me leaving warm/sunny Florida to spend the remainder of the winter in Montana, at my sister's place. I want to skirt the MH when I get there; Sis has access to 1-inch thick, and 2-inch thick, foam panels, at no cost. Any ideas on how to install/attach these around the MH? MH is 1997 Newmar Dutch Star - 35-feet with one living room slide. AtDhVaAnNkCsE G-Jim c):{-Water in basement compartment - 1997 Dutch StarI'm getting water into one of my 'basement' storage compartments. On this 1997 Dutch Star 3455, this is the second compartment behind the door on the curb side of the MH, right below the furnace. No other compartments affected. The water is getting into the compartment via a seam in the aluminum panels at the top of the compartment ... but, how the water is getting there, I haven't a clue (shades of Jimmy Buffet). The MH roof isn't leaking, the refrigerator drain isn't the culprit, and I don't think it's from the plumbing. I can see the plumbing, under the kitchen sink, no leaks, everything dry there. Everywhere that I can see the floor area, inside cabinets, all along that side, things are dry. This is a fairly slow process ... the water is dripping, not running. The water appears to be clean, no funny smells, slime, etc. I plan to also contact Newmar, to see if they can offer any suggestions.Query: Roof coatingI believe that I'm the 5th owner of this 1997 Dutch Star. The roof has been coated with an after-market product - probably by 1st or 2nd owner. I have been in contact with the 3rd owner, and he stated that the roof coating was there when he purchased the unit. Most of its life, this MH was in the Las Vegas NV area. I purchased the unit last November and have been living in it in NW Oregon since then. Over this past winter, 80-90% of the roof coating has come off. Water gets under an edge, the coating bubbles up, the wind does the rest - and, for those not familiar with the weather here, there is LOTS of rain, LOTS of wind! Other than one very small area, at roof side-edge, I can't find any problems with the roof, and no signs of leakage. My question: Why is this coating coming off? Is it because 1) it's the wrong product for this roof, 2) it was applied improperly, or 3) this stuff just wears out over time? See photo. Also, I wonder why it was applied in the first place since there aren't any indications that there were any problems with the roof. Because of the small area that I did find an issue with, and because of my past experience with these rubber roofs, I am in the process of sealing all edges/seams with EternaBond tape.Re: What did you do to your Class A MH today???Replaced the water-heater yesterday - replaced with identical unit as original (Suburban SW6D). While at it, installed an indicator light that lets me know when the unit is actually heating water. Green wire, from switch, is negative (ground); brown wire, from controller*, is +12v when the unit is heating. Tapped into both these wires and connected to a LED indicator ($10 at Auto-Zone). Will be nice to know when the heater is finished after showers and washing dishes. *This wire actuates the solenoid on the gas valve.Re: What did you do to your Class A MH today???Not today, but recently. I installed a remote control for the black-water valve (http://www.barkermfg.com/autodrain.html). No more trips outside during inclement weather, just activate the switch. I leave the switch in the 'open' position for about a minute, then back to 'close'.
