The frame broke and slammed into the highway. We ended up having to drag it off the highway into lot of the gas station. I call it an accident because that's what I consider it. We can blame Lippert, but the RV manufacturer specifies the chassis they buy from Lippert for each model trailer. Cheaper is better. We were towing with a 2015 Yukon XL with tow capacity of 8000#. Off the top of my head I dont remember the hitch model. We bought the hitch from the RV company when we bought the trailer so it was based on their recommendation. So if I opened up all the cupboards, pass through storage, underbed storage, closets, etc. in your camper - the only thing i would find is " a few kitchen supplies"; the rest would be empty. Thank you everyone for you answers. We truly appreciate them. It is a 2017 Palomino Model 201SS on a Lippert frame. To clarify, when I said hauling water, I meant the fresh water tanks were full because we were going into the mountains for the weekend. Not hauling extra tanks of water inside the trailer. According to the manufacturer, we could haul something like 500# of supplies. The full tank of water was around #250. There was no mention in the owner's manual, or any paperwork for that manner, that says the trailer should not be towed with a full tank. I can guarantee that we did not have that much in there. I know Lippert won't care. I'm just exceedingly frustrated with their response. I will add pictures as soon as I figure out how to. I'm truly bothered by the trailer manufacturer and Lippert's response because this easily could have been a fatal accident if it had happened while travelling at highway speed. Unfortunately we do not live where I bought the trailer. We have it at the local dealer and they are worthless. They are being punitive since I did not buy the trailer from them. They have told everyone that the frame is just "bent" even though we have pictures and proof that all the welds have failed. Needless to say, we are trying to get the trailer back to the original dealer so that we can get an accurate assessment. We have had 2 certified welders assess the trailer and although they feel like they could fix it, they have both said that the trailer body needs to come off the frame and the whole frame needs to be inspected and fixed. They are also concerned about the damage that the trailer body sustained from hitting the highway. We have NHTSA involved and I have talked with insurance. My insurance company wanted me to attempt a fix with the manufacturer first before submitting the claim as they feel it is 100% a manufacturer flaw.217Views0likes0CommentsHelp!!! Frame broke
My husband and I were hauling our trailer. It was loaded with water but not overloaded. As we were slowing to turn, the actual welds on the trailer broke,slamming the front end into the highway. Now the company is saying we were overloaded because we had water in the tank. If we didn't have extra weight from other supplies, what are the chances that we were overloaded? Shouldn't we have been able to haul water? Just looking for thoughts. The trailer is a 2017 and is just out of warranty. Thanks8KViews0likes48CommentsRe: Negotiating new TT price
More advice please. I went in today to negotiate a price. I gave them the max I felt comfortable paying. They basically said they have no room to negotiate and offered me 5% off or $1400 in "add ons" when the extras I wanted came to $2100. They said they couldn't do better so I walked away for the time being. What I'm wondering is if dealers ever don't have room to negotiate or are they just trying to get the most they can out of me thinking I wouldn't play hard ball. I found another trailer at a different dealer so I called on it and they also told me that they wouldn't negotiate on price. Thanks!361Views0likes0Comments
