What have those of you that have a similar hitch done to remove the hitch without straining your back. I attached a ring to the header in the garage door frame , i back up my truck till the ring is above my hitch, I then have a 1 ton chain hoist from harbor freight that I connect to the ring and drop a lift strap around the hitch and lift it up a few inches above the bed height i then drive out from under the hitch and lower the hitch onto an old office chair and roll it out of the way till I’m ready to install again, its real easy to service the hitch this way also.Re: Fifth wheel mileage questionYes I wondered if it made much fuel mileage difference between lighter rigs or heavier rigs. it doesn’t sound like much. Pretty much get the one with the floor plan you like and drive. Didn’t want to be surprised and find out I’m getting 7-8 MPG….??Fifth wheel mileage questionFiver owners, not trying to start a debate, but wanted some data to think about. I have a 2017 f350 Dually diesel and I am looking at fivers in the 30-35’ range but the weights vary quite a lot I’ve seen 30’ at 9k lbs gvw. and 35’ at15k lbs. gvw my question is will it make much difference in mileage pulling those different weights, and length trailers or is this a aerodynamic issue nor so much weight. ??Re: Fifth wheel length questionWow that was a lot of great responses I think we would be looking to limit its length at around 34’. Sounds like that would be a good compromise on length if all other things are a fit like tank size etc.Fifth wheel length questionFifth wheel owners What seems to be the consensus on the best length of fifth wheel to purchase when you will be using it for 2 weeks up to 6 mos at a time? I would be staying at some national parks, and some boondocking locations. We are Thousand trail members so most size rigs will be accepted there. I have owned a 30 ft. Bunk model when we had kids, and I could manage that pretty well, but wanted something for the dear wife and me, rear lounge type, with bed slide. I have a 2017 f350 Dually and truck camper at this time, for towing, but wanted more room than that. ?? thanks SportzfannRe: Arctic fox 990 rocking back and forthYou will need to check your payload ratings, but that truck looks to have a payload of about 3500 pounds depending on options. The Arctic fox 990 is a heavy camper around 5000lbs loaded. On any single wheel truck, it will sway back and forth no matter what extras you put on it to control the sway. the weight of that camper is top heavy. Only way I was able to control the sway on my 990 was to upgrade to a Dually. I don’t even think about sway anymore, it does sway a little but not enough to worry about ,plus I don’t really worry about a blowout/tire failure while hauling that much weight. For me it’s a worry free trip, and that, is worth a lot to me and family!Re: 270w solar world panels jrnymn7 wrote: I'm all for the OP going with a 540w mppt system, if he plans to increase his boondocking, considerably. But then I'd also suggest a larger bank. Now, I think if I went with four batterys I could stay out longer. I want to run all the appliances for (limited time)seperatly except the a/c unit. I just need to find the space, and wire them in (parallel 2-6v together) I want to know how you wire your appliances to run off a inverter. does the inverter feed the panel while on solar and then a transfer switch while on shore power? Does someone have a schematic for something like this? I will make sure size wise the panels will fit on the roof. Sorry for all the questions, just getting started with solar. I would like to be able to recharge my batterys in 1-2 days? It looks like I will need to get the mppt controller. How many watts/Amps/time is required to charge a pair of 6v batts? Thanks, Brian :)Re: 270w solar world panelsWow, thanks for all the responses. I need to do a power assessment of how much wattage I need. I wanted to have a system that will charge my batterys completely while at home. And be able to run for a week without my genny or hookups. (just don't want to hear it), and I like the more remote locations. If I need the a/c I do have a pair of Honda generators. I don't want to get a expensive inverter and run wire for a/c and microwave. sounds like I need to do some more research......Re: 270w solar world panelsI was looking at the specs on these panels and the voltage is 32.1 volts so the charge controller will reduce that to a voltage useable to the battery? The RV panels I saw had a much lower voltage, so it a little confusing? Thanks,
