Just reread my reply- did not intend a slight about Newfoundlander,sorry if it came out that way. I really like my Sprint, it took some work but is now a great all purpose, all weather rv. We just got back from camping up a logging road campsite where a larger unit would not fit, the narrower body lets us go where pickups with campers go. I've redone the roof with aluminum panel and redone the interior to a permanent corner bed and a couch instead of the dinette. It feels quite spacious compared to other larger class c's we've had. The fridge is lowered and a cubic mini woodstove on top of it keeps us comfy in the winter. I got rid of the air conditioner on the roof. 120 volts means hookups which means rv parks. Not our thing. Using a portable a/c might be an answer if you must have one. We do have a Maxxair roof vent which we use alot, even when driving in the hot weather. It's quite adequate for our needs. I thought this unit had a carb when we bought it but it has early fuel injection. Gm was slow to changeover to tbi in its motorhomes, I think 1989 was the first year for them. Each type has pros and cons. Carb is cheap replacement with factory presets if it's a problem. Fuel injection is more complicated. It does start and run well. Cruise control is excellent as it never needs to downshift out of third gear. Your Pleasureway is a higher quality build with a newer design drivetrain. You would be giving up some to gain that space. We found class b's just a bit too small and that a slightly wider body made all the difference.1.1KViews0likes0CommentsRe: 1987 Mallard sprint 20 ft
Being a Newfy, l'm sure you're good at fixing things. The Sprint you've been offered is a rare bird but it's components are all standard equipment both drive train and body. The g30 is long-lived and parts are available. I let Canadian Tire do some fixing and they get my parts. The camper is fiberglass front,sides and back but the problem is the roof. All appliances are replacable if need be. As you might have guessed, I own one-the same model but 1990. It has tbi and the 3 speed tranny. I bought it two years ago and have spent a lot of time fixing it. It gets 14 mpg at best and likes to run at 90 kph or less (55 mph). I hear you. I don't like to use stop leak so I put in less than half a small bottle. I also had bits of old belt wrapped around the fan blade base which might have been stressing the pump bearing/seal. It's not leaking a all now so hopefully that's it. Morning update: went down to 2 degrees Celsius (about 36 f) last night. The circuit breaker on the post outside tripped off sometime during the night and it is cold inside this morning.promising rain this afternoon, possibly snow tonight. I wasn't really hoping for a part 2 but we used the rv before I finished the renovations and now we're paying for it. Went to pick up the kids in Kitsilano for supper and Van Dusan Gardens light show. Just as we get to her apartment building there is a thump,thump,thump under the hood. Uh,oh... Pulled around the corner and stopped. Looked back down the road and saw a piece of wire lying there. Picked it up - not wire,belt. The serpentine belt had shredded a rib and when I looked under the hood the rest of it was still there (mostly). Well, I removed the loose bits that I could reach but left the belt in place. The motor ran fine but I knew it could shred more or RIP or snap at any moment. Canadian Tire was 12 blocks away. We drove there on pins and needles, four of us ,two cats and our home on wheels. They didn't have the belt at that store, there was one in South Vancouver. We put it on hold and headed there being careful to accelerate slowly and coast alot in the rush hour traffic. Yup, that's me making RV's look bad. Sorry. Got the belt but they couldn't install it. I would have to do it but not tonight. We went down the road for supper then on to see the lights. The belt held. Finally we dropped off the kids and headed back to the campground- through downtown Vancouver and through the Stanley Park causeway and over the Lions Gate Bridge. White knuckles like you wouldn't believe! But we made it. Tomorrow I'll try to replace the belt myself with my basic tool kit. It's supposed to rain. The campsite is gravel. It is mild in Vancouver, about 6 or 7 degrees Celsius at the moment. The area where the leak is ,I believe, is at the back of the unit where I recently tidied up the wiring and plumbing and put paint on the floor and rv sealant at the walls. A major leak would be noticable and a minor leak not too traumatic, (I hope). On to my next adventure- see part 2.353Views0likes0Comments
