Not sure how true that is.Re: how much weight do you tow with 1/2 ton gm 5.3l Dadoffourgirls wrote: Terryallan wrote: twodogs603 wrote: My friend has a 6 month old Silverado 4x4 crew cab with the 5.3 and towing package. Didnt have very good pickup and it seemed like it was always straining to keep up speed on the interstate. Kept downshifting and running the RPMs up real high. I expected a lot better performance then what it had. Really? I would think that a 1500 towing twenty six THOUSAND pounds would be very disappointing. I would only be surprised if it actuall got to the speedlimit. Cause twenty six THOUSAND pounds is a lot for a 450. However. I suspect that is a typo, and is more like 2,680. or two thousand, six hundred, and 80 pounds.:B I suspect it must have been the twenty six thousand. I hauled an enclosed 16 ft U-haul trailer 1200 miles over 2 days with a 2014 Silverado that had the 5.3 and the 3.08 rear axle. Half of the miles had the trailer full of household items, including school books. Holy crapola. That was a typo on my part. The total weight was only about 2800 lbs.Re: Eating Crow - the "new" Blue Ox Sway ProIf your looking for a Blue Ox hitch, I found this site a few days ago. The sale was supposed to end 3/31 but I see they have extended it. Very good prices. http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-hitches/blueox-sway-pro-hitch.htm The brackets shown in the picture that are mounted to the frame are not the ones they have now. They use a better bracket now.Re: how much weight do you tow with 1/2 ton gm 5.3lMy friend has a 6 month old Silverado 4x4 crew cab with the 5.3 and towing package. It is listed as 33' long, weighs 6065 lbs with a 641 lb tongue weight. I will be towing it with a 2014 Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4x2 w/ the 5.7L HEMI, 3.21 rear end. Looking at the Ram towing capacities chart, I think Im going to be ok but want other opinions to make sure. They list the max GCVW at 13,800 lbs. The curb weight of the truck with 2 passengers and no cargo is 5500 lbs, which shows I can tow up to 8350 lbs. I understand that would change if I loaded up the truck bed. So if I am reading this correctly, I have a little wiggle room. Max towing would be 8350, but the trailer is only 6065 lbs (unloaded). Last thing I want to do is buy a trailer too big to safely pull.Re: InsuranceVirginia doesn't require you to carry proof of insurance, but does require you to have insurance. I always carry my card with me anyway.Re: Experience with dealers in Central VirginaI went to McGeorges several weeks ago to look around. I wanted to look around without anyone bothering me. That doesnt happen there. They sit you down, ask what you want, the saleman then goes to the business manager to see what they have, then they drive you around in a gold cart and show you what they want to show you. Thats ok for some I guess, not what I want. I left there feeling like I accomplished absolutely nothing. A friend of mine purchased a Fusion Chrome 5th wheel in September. He took it back in November for an awning problem. He just got it back 2 days ago. He is not very happy with McGeorges or the manufacturer at this point. Four months to fix an awning is absurd. McGeorges did nothing to communicate with him. Any time he wanted answers he had to call them. So Im not sure I could recommend them. I know many many others have probably had a good experience with them.Re: Hemi 6.4Can't comment on the Ram, but I went for a ride in a new Charger with a 6.4 Hemi a couple weeks ago and all I can say is "oh my god". And I drive a Ram with the 5.7.
