I was able to run electric directly to the dc motor and got it to open, so I know the motor is good. All the fuses in the box look ok and bypassing g. The switch doesn’t seem to help. Is there an in line fuse somewhere that we are missing. Searched a bit, but not finding anything on the net.Re: Replacing roof A/C unitAdd a Supco SPP6 hard start capacitor. There was a post on it, so watch for hard start capacitor. I added one in less than 30 minutes for under 30 dollars. Took care of my AC issues.Re: 5th wheelTo actually answer your question. We removed the rear window from our 1998 Keystone Sprinter and replaced it with an Emergency Pass-thru style window. Now we just open the back window, like the rear window on a camper shell, prop it open with a a kayak paddle, and i feed the 2 kayaks, one at a time, through the inside of the camper. My wife grabs them on the inside and lays them side by side on a packing blanket on the floor. We cover them with another packing blanket and stuff a couple throw pillows where we need the so that they don't rub a cabinet, and we're good to go. Our kayaks are only 10 feet long and seem to ride in the floor without any problems. If you have a rear window that is big enough, this might be an option for you.Re: Macerating pump to empty black/gray tankA friend borrowed my flo-jet and we learned an expensive lesson. When emptying both tanks on his fiver, the motor got hot enough to seize the brushes to the guides that hold them. According to flow-jet, the cap that holds the brushes on the end of the electric motor is not a replacable part. He graciously bought a new pump for me and when we read the directions on the new pump, noticed that there is now a warning to not run the motor more than 15 minutes continuously. I tried to repair the old motor by glueing the plastic guides back together, but not sure if it will hold up.Re: Turning on the running lights through the trailer plugI think I figured it out finally. I had a bad ground wire. Battery was good. I ran a new ground to the frame and everything seems to work the way it should. I'm not sure how far back the original ground wire ran or where it was supposed to tie in. I assume it goes back to the inverter box (or whatever that is actually called). I'll dig into it further when it cools down here. Thanks for everyone's suggestions.Re: Turning on the running lights through the trailer plug Old-Biscuit wrote: On the trailer plug........ Jumper wire (or automotive flasher) goes between pins at 1 o'clock and 11 o'clock positions. Looking at end of plug..... notch up 11 O'clock is hot from trailer battery 1 O'clock is running lights Yeah, I tried that. I'll try using my jump box for power and see what that does. I'll probably blow all my lights by playing around. :)Re: Turning on the running lights through the trailer plugI wasn't clear on my post. I did run a jumper wire across the hot post of the plug to the running light post. The running lights did not come on.Turning on the running lights through the trailer plugYes, I know this has been a topic that has received a lot of flames, and I'm not asking to be able to use this while camping. I was just playing around with the fiver tonight in my driveway (just finished packing bearings today), and was wondering if I could make the running lights come on using a jumper across the plug. Just a curiosity. I tried jumping across the hot lead on the fiver plug to the one that turns on the running lights and it doesn't make them come on. I put the end of my test light into the hot lead of the plug and grounded it against one of the bolts on the hitch and the red light of the test pen comes on. If I reverse it and put the alligator clip of the test light into the hot lead of the plug, and then put the pointed end of the test light against one of the bolts on the hitch, the test pen has a green light turn on. Anyone play with this and have an idea of how this is working? Like I said, not something I intend to use. More just trying to understand my electrical system. Wondering too, if I can make the brakes turn on and off while sitting in the drive this way.Re: Kayak carryingA friend of mine came up with a good idea for carrying our two 10 foot kayaks. We couldn't get them through the door, but we do have a back window that was just big enough to fit them through. We replaced the standard type window in the back of the fiver with an emergency escape type window. Now we just open the rear window, similar to raising a camper shell rear hatch, put one of the paddles under it to hold it open, and feed the kayaks through. We wrap a couple of movers blankets around them, once inside, to keep them from bumping or scratching anything. They ride nice just sitting in the floor. Works for us.Re: Parking on an inclineThe fridge operates by the heating and cooling of ammonia (at least that is my understanding). When it is out of level the liquid ammonia flows where it isn't supposed to and can vary sediment with it and will clog up the system. I don't know a lot about it, but that is my basic understanding. Someone will probably answer more fully.
