We are starting to travel and will carry a car with us on a trailer which will mean our overall length will be just less than 50'. How much trouble am I in in locating a space that long or a space that is wide enough to disconnect the trailer and have it along side? I'd say what your bringing is a common length for typical commercial RV parks..and it helps that you're willing to disconnect the trailer and park it along side. In fact in many spots you can pull through with the trailer. If you do have a problem, it will be in public campgrounds, some of which were laid out decades ago with tent camping in mind. If you're making reservations, I'd request site to suit. If not, you may want to call ahead and check..or look at the campground description online. RVparkreviews can tell you what kind of rigs have been there. Also check address on google earth and see whats in the sites. Overall don't see a problem in most commercial campgrounds, especially newer ones.Re: Is 70 the age to stop towingI don't think you can make blanket statements. This capability is not directly correlated with age. I do think we all need to be honest with ourselves on our current capability. Sometimes it is not either/or. It is matter of degree. Still do stuff but at a slower pace, less distance, less challenging conditions, etc.Re: GeneratorBeing a new motorhome the generator could be defective. Worth having it checked out by Onan. Mine takes a series of two or three primes and starting attempts to get it going after sitting a few weeks. Prime 15 seconds, crank 10 seconds. Wait, repeat. It may take a minute or two overall to get it started. I think it is beyond ridiculous these still use carburetors at all.Re: replacing my shocksI would highly recommend replacing the stock Ford shocks. They were grossly inadequate on my 24' E450 class C (when new) which is well below max weight rating. They did not have enough control. I used the Koni FSD and can recommend. I also think the Bilstein HD would be fine. I think there is lot of confusion here about the terms ride and handling. What I'm addressing with this post is the excessively loose control of the suspension with the stock Ford shocks on the class C motorhome. The Konis, at least, firmed that up without making the RV harsher in ride quality (slam, impact).Re: Traveling with a scooter on Class CI've always used 5X8 utility trailer for various scooters, motorcycles and ATV. It is very easy to get the bike up on the trailer with built-in ramp. The trailer is not much problem on it's own. It's light, and when disconnected can easily be rolled around by hand. So backing can be as easy as no trailer at all-remove bike, remove trailer, and roll it around to your heart's content. Above all, no need to pivot 350-400+ pounds on the back of class C which already has (IMO) too much weight behind the axle.Re: Driving - Day or NightMostly day. But do night driving in the case of extremely hot weather to get across desert. Lets say a 3am to 11am shift.Re: Colorado residents don't want tourists anymoreProbably part of the issue in CO is solitude is one of the attractions there. Crowds aren't the best for that. Here in S CA solitude is almost a lost cause in the urban tourist areas. Nobody expects it. Some of this is self limiting..too many people..tourists seeking solitude go elsewhere. Example: I don't plan Yosemite in high season. All in all, I've heard that for years from various places..and nothing seems to come from it.Re: Woodsmoke Campground Pet PolicyI commented upthread, but do have one further thought: The name Woodsmoke does seem a bit ironic in this context. I've not been bothered much at all by dog poop, and I usually have not been bothered by campfires. I've usually enjoyed them. But a few times, I've had tons of smoke from a bad campfire blow directly in my site. Certainly woodsmoke has been more annoying to me overall than dog poop!Re: Woodsmoke Campground Pet PolicyIt probably is at least partially for the deterrent effect. With all the Poo Patrol hype people will probably be more careful. Whether it is worth it in the entire scheme of things, who knows. There would have to be some energy and cost expended by campground to operate this system. Probably depends on how much priority you assign to dog poo as a problem-both from campground or customer perspective. How much time is the campground taking to clean it up for example? As a non-pet owner, I've rarely been bothered by it or seen excessive amounts of it.Re: Campsite in west Los AngelesEast Shore in San Dimas, Golden Shore in Long Beach. Both are in about the same boat price wise as Dockweiler and farther away. East Shore is fine, but a grind to the coast in traffic. I'd just go ahead and stay at Dockweiler again. Marina Del Rey is not particularly accessible to RV parks.
