It nearly killed my father. You can read about the side effects here http://www.drugs.com/aleve.html NancyRe: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}Well to add a bit to the sadness on list lately, my corgi Penny who has a history of Mammery Cancer and just had a basal cell cancerous tumor removed just went in for a chest xray today and it showed what appears to be cancer :( (mammery cancer likes to spread to the lungs) I don't know how much time we'll have left with her; but for right now she still feels pretty good, just a bit of a cough. She will be 11 in March and has been my best friend since she was 3 months old. My pointer had lumps removed at the same time as Penny and they came back as Mast Cell Cancer :( Hopefully they will not spread or return; but they were grade 2 with clean margins so anything can happen there. She's a rescue we found on the side of the road with 3 puppies two years ago, she is about 4 years old. On the upside, the chiro/laser/accupunture has seemed to help my 12 y/o newfie a bit. He still limps; but seems a lot perkier. He goes for his next treatment tomorrow morning. NancyRe: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}Gary I'm so sorry, it's the hardest thing we have to do for them. :(Re: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}Gary so sorry to hear that :(Re: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}Sorry his name is Shane. :) Interesting info on spinal arthritis, the vet last night said his back was very arched and it seems like the disks were sticking up; she compared it to a stegosaurus but after the adjustment they were lying a bit flatter. He's still limping today but seems to be moving a bit faster. He slept so well after his treatment, no shaking legs, or anything. I had to check to make sure he was alive :) I think he just felt so comfortable. His next appointment is on the 8th, she said we'll know if she'll be able to help him within 3-4 treatments. A Newfie at 12 is on borrowed time, this I know; but other than that his blood work has all been great and organs functioning good so I want to keep him comfortable for as long as he has left. The oldest Newfie that I personally knew at the breeders where Shane came from was 13 when he passed away. Nancy dturm wrote: Dashonthedash wrote: Nancy, it sounds like he has Degenerative Myelopathy. I checked online, and Newfoundlands definitely can get it. Dash has never had knee problems, but otherwise his condition sounds a lot like Dash. Please keep us posted on how he does with the treatments. Oh, and what is his name? Severe spinal arthritis mimics DM (you get nerve compression at the nerve roots coming off the spinal cord), same loss of proprioception, weakness, loss of muscle mass, but it either progresses very slowly or reaches a plateau where the deficiency stays pretty constant. Hard to diagnose the difference without specialized tests or monitoring progress. BTW just having a 12 year old Newfie shows a lifetime of great care and support by owners. Re: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}Well asided from being 12 years old. He had ACL surgery on both knees when he was younger and he's got some arthritis going on there with the right one being worse than the left. Not sure what is going on with the front leg he just started limping on that a month or so ago, could have caused some damage from over compensating for the back end problems. A lot of mussle loss. She gave him the whole ball of wax, maniuplation, laser treatments, and acupuncture. We'll see how he does. He's got another appointment on the 8th. If you turn his right foot under he does not correct it right away and he does not wag his tail anymore. He's got some pain back there based on his response to her manipulations. Hopefully it with help some and keep him comfortable a while longer. Dashonthedash wrote: Nancy, I hope you can find some relief for your Newfy. Acupuncture and supplements have helped Dash, who has both arthritis and DM. What is the issue with your Newfy? Re: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}Gary I feel for you I am going through the same thing, minus the incontenance so far, with my 12 year old Newfoundland. He's limping on the front and back and stairs are very difficult for him he won't even attempt them if one of us isn't there with him. There are only about 4 stairs he has to do to get outside; but it is very challanging. He's 125 lbs so if he goes down it's tough to get him back on his feet. We have a vet coming by this afternoon. She does Manipulation, Laser Therapy, and Accupunture. She is going to evaluate him and see if she will be able to offer him any help. Nancy Dashonthedash wrote: When was the last time you tried to lift a 74-pound suitcase? Dash is still limping this morning, but he is beginning to get a little more confidence on the stairs, as long as I am there. He even gave me a little wave of the tail this morning (the closest he can do anymore to a wag). Re: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}My 12 year old Newfoundland was on Rimdyl, which didn't help, and then Previcox which sort of helped. I then took him off that and tried Traumeel it did just as good a job as the previcox; however I noticed that he was having a bit of breathing difficulties. I can't say for sure that it was caused by the Traumeel; but I took him off it and it seems a little better. I might give it a try again in about a month and if he starts to have breathing problems again I can be pretty sure that it's the Traumeel. rjwnyoa wrote: Good Morning, I did alot of reading last night on a natural med called Traumeel. From all the reviews I read,it did wonders for their older dogs. Has anyone ever used it? Have a beautiful day... Re: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}Wow thanks Dr. Doug I'm glad she's doing so great!Re: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}What medication is Mama on now that's helping so much?
