All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Disappointed!!!!!!!It's really sad to see what passes for quality manufacturing in many US industries today, especially the RV industry. These units are certainly not worth the money they command. I purchased a new top of the line Coleman popup trailer in the mid-90s and a new Sunnybrook Mobile Scout travel trailer in 2001. Neither of these units ever had to be returned to the dealer for any issues whatsoever. I'm currently saving funds to purchase a new 5th wheel but based on what I see and hear a significant number of new owners going through I may decide to put my money into a good used unit or totally forgo a camper purchase. I'm still employed and have precious little time to relax or take a nice vacation. I look to camping as a way to unwind, enjoy time with friends and family and take in what nature has to offer. I certainly don't want to spend that time fixing a brand new RV with subpar quality. Definitely on the fence regarding a new RV purchase!Re: Walk-Through Inspection on Purcahsed 5'erI suggest you check the two online Wildcat forums for typical issues with the model Wildcat you are purchasing. I've been researching the Wildcat product line and one of the issues you definitely need to look for is cracks in the walls (exterior gelcoat), especially in and around all slides. Best of luck with your new purchase, I hope it exceeds all of your expectations!Re: Grand Design 303 RLS and Chevy 2500HD Tow Vehicle QuestionsThanks for the input 2hams, I will also post this inquiry on the GD Owner's forum, great suggestion. I may PM you for recommended campgrounds in the VB area, our daughter and son-in-law are now stationed there. Appreciate the input Fishhawker, the GCWR on my truck is 24,500 lbs (diesel).Grand Design 303 RLS and Chevy 2500HD Tow Vehicle QuestionsHello All, I am saving funds to purchase a Grand Design 303RLS. Tow vehicle will be a 2013 Chevy Silverado 2500HD CC 4WD LTZ with standard 6.5 ft bed. Preferred hitch is the Anderson Aluminum Ultimate Hitch as I need to minimize payload weight consumed by hitch weight. Is anyone on this forum towing this specific 5th wheel with the same or a similar tow vehicle/hitch setup? If so, I have the following questions: 1. What is the location of your gooseneck ball with respect to the axle line? 2. Do you tow with the ball socket on the Anderson aluminum pin coupler ahead or or behind the pin? 3. Approximately where does this result in the 5th wheel pin being located with respect to the axle line? 4. Do you have plenty of clearance between 5th wheel and truck cab when turning and backing? Are you able to turn 90 degrees? 5. Are you able to obtain at least 6" of clearance between the 5th wheel and the top of the bed rails with this 5th wheel and your tow vehicle/hitch. Please feel free to PM me if you prefer. Thanks in advance for your replies and support! Best regards, KeithRe: Chevy Duramax 2500HD - 5th Wheel Towing QuestionThank you very much to each of you who have provided feedback to my questions regarding suitability of two different trailers for my truck. Your "real world" examples are very helpful! We will continue to pursue the GD 303RLS as we like this trailer alot and we will also check out similar trailers in the 12-13K GVWR range as it appears that KZ offers some nice options in the Durango 2500 and 1500 product lines. Thanks again for all of your help, most appreciated! Best regards, KeithRe: Chevy Duramax 2500HD - 5th Wheel Towing QuestionMany thanks to all have provided feedback to my question. As I suspected, the Toy Hauler we liked is too much trailer for my truck. I think a 5th wheel like the GD Reflection 303RLS (specs below) or something with comparable specifications as this 5th wheel would be a much better choice for my 2500HD truck. Grand Design Reflection 303RLS 11995 - GVWR 9200 - Dry Weight 1660 - Hitch Weight (based on average - per GD web site specification) 32'11" - Length Thanks again, KeithRe: Chevy Duramax 2500HD - 5th Wheel Towing QuestionToy Hauler because I have a portable dobsonian telescope (2'x 2'x 6.5' tall x 70 lbs) that I can carry fully assembled in the garage and just roll it out when I want to use it. We also like the garage area of a toy hauler as a sheltered picnic area and a more open place to hang out. Also with two queen beds, plenty of room for when relatives visit our camp site and want to stay over.Chevy Duramax 2500HD - 5th Wheel Towing QuestionHello All, My wife and I want to replace our current travel trailer and found a 5th wheel we really like but I'm concerned it may be too much trailer for my tow vehicle. I would appreciate those of you with significant 5th wheel experience to review the following and provide your input. Tow Vehicle: 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD CrewCab standard box 4WD LTZ Duramax diesel engine GVWR: 10,000 lbs GCWR: 24,500 lbs Curb Wt: 7,294 lbs Payload: 2,706 lbs GAWR FRT: 5,200 lbs GAWR RR: 6,200 lbs Max tow - 5th wheel: 15,800 lbs Max king pin wt: 3,000 lbs 5th Wheel: Grand Design Momentum 350M Toy Hauler 16500 - GVWR 13500 - Dry Weight 2900 - Hitch Weight 2373 - Dry Hitch Weight (estimated) 38'9" - Length 5th wheel would be towed without any fluids, 60lb propane and lightly loaded (< 1000lbs). Truck would be loaded with full fuel, me, wife, dog and 5th wheel hitch Is it feasible that we could comfortably and safely tow this 5th wheel or do we need to restrict our search for a 5th wheel in the 12,000 lb GVWR range? Thanks in advance for your reply! KeithRe: Small Class A for astronomers to bring your telescopes alongPamela, With respect to Class A pricing, I can't speak to all models but based on the research I've been doing it's my understanding that the Tiffen Class A we have been looking at (31SA) can typically be purchased for 25% off of MSRP and in some cases up to 28% off. If you decide to pursue this route please feel free to send me a PM and I will advise what I have learned with regard to obtaining favorable pricing on a Tiffin motorhome. Best regards, KeithRe: Small Class A for astronomers to bring your telescopes alongI'm in a similar situation with a 14.5" and 20" dob along with a 140mm refractor and G-11 mount. Plan to take a dob and refractor on most trips. Currently evaluating a Tiffin 31SA class A gas motorhome (33') and a Grand Design Momentum 350M toy hauler (38'9") to determine which will best allow me to safely transport and use the telescopes. Best regards, Keith
