Rushmore, Crazy Horse, the city of Custer and Hill City and a good place to stay. The sites are electric only but each campground has a shower house with a hose bib to fill your tank before backing into your site and there is a free dump station in the park. You can drive the Wildlife Loop Road and see Bison (Buffalo). Also a nice drive (not in an RV, take the toad) are Needles Hwy and Iron Mt. Road. From there you can go south on Hwy 79 to 385 into NE and avoid Denver.Re: Seeking round trip advice from Minneapolis to YellowstoneI work at Custer State Park. The time you have listed for your trip is right during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and it is one of the busiest times in the Black Hills. Mt. Rushmore, Crazyhorse, Custer State Park will all be very busy. You may want to consider arriving the 2nd week of Aug to avoid all the crowds, especially if you don't like motorcycles, the roads will be packed with them late July and then first week of Aug.Shower drainMy 5th wheel is almost 4 years old. The drain in my shower is draining slow. I have purchased a tool from Home Depot to remove the hair. It helped a little bit for a little while but it is now draining slow again. Is it safe to add liquid drano in the drain of an RV or will this hurt the plastic drain or holding tank?Re: Washngton DC CampgroundI stayed at Cherry Hill. Nice park. The girl at the front desk was young and new and didn't know that my site was near the highway in the back or I would have chose another site, oh well. I have a 5th wheel so I drove my truck to the subway station a few miles away and parked and took the train into town. Then took the Red Bus around town getting on and off at will. Cherry Hill has a bus stop right at the entrance to the campground if you want to take the bus into town but I found the subway to be faster.Re: Motor home insuranceYou can't compare premium rates unless you are getting the same coverage. The premium for a 5th wheel trailer worth $40,000 or $50,000 won't be the same as coverage for a Class A diesel pusher worth $250,000 to $350,000. Also what are the coverage limits? 50,000, $100,000, $250,000? What is the deductible? $100, $250, $500, $1,000. All of these variables make a huge difference. As far as insurance companies are concerned State Farm writes the most policies of all of them. This includes, auto, home, rv, boat etc. Foremost is a division of Farmers and is good on recreational vehicles as is Progressive. USAA, Gieco are also good. Safeco, Allied (a division of Nationwide) are good too. AARP is broker for Hartford, they are not bad either. The question is not just the premium but will they pay a claim? All of the above are reputable companies. All will offer multiple policy discounts if you have your auto, rv , and home insured with them.Re: Onan oil filter threads damaged rgatijnet1 wrote: When installing any spin on oil filter, always coat the gasket surface with wheel bearing grease, NOT oil. Oil will tend to harden from the heat and make the filter difficult to remove. Wheel bearing grease can handle the heat and will allow for easy removal when the time comes. Wow, I was always told to put a little fresh oil on the filter to keep to rubber o-ring from sticking on removal and lube the threads. I will have to try wheel bearing grease now.Annual CostI am in the market for a new Class A diesel pusher. I currently am full time in a 5th wheel. My 5th wheel has very little annual maintainance, just the oil and filter on the generator and the anode rod in the water heater. What besides the oil and filter on the diesel motor and the oil and filter on the generator will I expect to have to do annually on a Bus? What can I expect it to cost for my annual maintenance? I have heard somewhere around $600 for the oil and filter change, but what other costs will I expect? I know that the tires will last about 5 to 7 years so I am excluding this item. Thanks in advance for al your input.Re: Michelen LTX A/T2 VS Transforce ATMy Ford came with the Michelin and I only got 28,000 miles. Changed to the BF Goodrich AT and have over 50,000 and still going. The Goodyear Wrangler are good too.Re: Another Patriot Act IssueI am not sure but I believe the Patriot Act expired early this year like in May. If it is still in force the Act does allow you to use a family members address. Also you can tell the bank the the mail forwarding address is only your mailing address and still use a family members address as the actual address of record for your account.Fort Myers FLI am looking at going to Fort Myers FL for the winter. I have a 42 foot 5th wheel. Any reccomendations on RV parks in the area?
