Looking forward to it... How about dumping ON those smokey campfires!!!!Re: Night stops with RV bigred1cav wrote: I absolutely hate to pay $30 to stop for 9 hours in a CG. When available I stop at Cracker Barrell or Wallmart. I am self-contained and want for no hookups in these stop for sleep events. I'm with you. We'll travel during the daylight and then overnight in a lot somewhere, then go to a destination and do more traveling in the daylight and then overnight in a lot again. We'll stop at a favorite campground along the way to dump and relax for a few days, but after three months of snowbirding, we want to be home and don't want to hang out at campgrounds the whole trip north. Also, we just joined Harvest Hosts, so we'll stop at about 3 or 4 of those as well. I hear it's a really nice option for those who dry camp during their travels.Re: Night stops with RV MetalGator wrote: 2012Coleman wrote: I just have never been bothered by this. If I am sleeping, I won't hear you over the noise the AC is making. Woken up plenty of times to new campers next door. I think this is only an issue on forums - not IRL. I agree. It the 10 years we've been RVing, I have never been woken up by someone coming in late. There have been dozens of times I have woken up and there would be a RV next to us that wasn't there the night before. The forums must have a lot of light sleepers! ;) One time last summer an old Class A came in early early morning next to us and woke us up. But who know what their story was? I doubt they waited until then to come in. In any case, we met the couple the next day and had a good time the whole week and have made plans to be neighbors again next year. The rain will do more to bother me than an unfortunate late arrival!Re: loosing old members Photomike wrote: gatrdave wrote: eubank wrote: Different kinds of social media, I'd say. Anybody remember his intro song? I remember Frazier Smith, but just barely. I think he was about done there when I started listening. Is he the one that did the Tiny Tina character and the Twin Dragon Almond Cookies commecrials? But no, I can't remember the song right now. I might have it on one of my many tapes I made back then...Re: loosing old members Acampingwewillgo wrote: Hey Chuck...I remember a Leo's Stereo in the San Fernando Valley just down the road a piece from Pacific Stereo(my old go to place for my stereo buying) that and Federated over on Highland in Hollywood right across from Famous Pink's Hot Dogs. I especially remember Fred and Frieda Rated!Re: loosing old members Eric&Lisa wrote: Photomike wrote: For me I prefer forums as they are a lot more searchable then say a Facebook group. ... I do not want myself marketed to others as a product, so I do not participate in Facebook. I admit I am not like the majority of Internet users in that I value my privacy. I would be naive to think that there isn't data about me on the Internet. However by avoiding platforms like Facebook, I at least don't make myself the easy target. -Eric I agree completely. Some of my friends tell me it doesn't matter because "they" know everything anyway. But I know they don't and I know that the less involved I am with Facebook and other similar sites, the less I can be marketed. I know that some people don't care about that and that's fine, but some people do care and I'm glad we still have the option. I don't like how everything still seems to be geared toward FB in the internet. Places I like don't have websites but have FB pages, so I don't visit them on the web. People sell on the FB Marketplace instead of local online sites. And people share information about what they're doing on FB, like a press-release, instead of emailing someone directly to check in. And yes, it has killed many a thriving fora. The university where I used to go had its own forum service that people from all over campus would use to discuss all sorts of matters, but as FB got more popular, people would use it less. And I fully believe that because people interact mostly, or only, on these types of platforms, they are less often exposed to real people with differing opinions (but they are exposed to Soviet trolls!). I am trying to be more active on the various places I have joined to replace the FB discussions. It's more work, too, to log in to a bunch of different sites when FB is just one place, but that's the way it goes...Re: loosing old members eubank wrote: Different kinds of social media, I'd say. We'll be in Florida for three months. I am SURE everything we're packing is stuff we'll totally need. We're packing the spices and kitchen stuff right now. I've tried to keep down my photography stuff...I've packed some books and records. We'll do the clothes next weekend. In my mind right now it doesn't seem like I've got a lot of stuff I'll be taking. But I haven't printing the list I've been working on for the past 6 months. We'll be doing this every winter-no more Maine winters after Christmas anymore. It'll be interesting to see how much we really need. Good thing the clothes for Florida take up less space than those for Maine!Re: Going around Boston loggenrock wrote: Hey Rangerman - dunno what you are driving/towing, but do NOT go thru the heart of Boston in ANYTHING of any size! Shutting off propane won't cut it - NO propane allowed in tunnels - and the HC (Hazardous Carrier) route is atrocious! You have a pretty narrow window of opportunity to avoid horrendous Boston traffic on ANY of the routes on a Friday - if you are not past the greater Boston area by 2pm...well... you know the saying! When we run south from NH to the south shore areas I usually run 495. Road surface has been better - fewer potholes - and traffic a bit less. Expect HEAVY traffic heading north from Boston - they are all seeking an escape from there for the weekend up to Maine/NH/etc., too. As an example of what to encounter for traffic, last summer we left Bangor, ME headed to Clinton, CT on a Friday (NOT by choice...). This route didn't even include the immediate Boston area. Google estimated 5.5 hrs to cover the 350+/- miles - it took us an actual 8.5 hrs to go that distance! Welcome to the Northeast! I will add that we really enjoy Nickerson SP, and the coast of ME is wonderful! Just travelling between the 2 will be nerve-wracking! ST I'm glad I found this. We just took our Sunseeker Class C to Provincetown from Bangor. We drove straight through Boston through the tunnels and had no issue either way. Left and returned on a Sunday and no traffic. However, afterwards we got to thinking about the propane in our motorhome in reference to all the LEAVE ON THIS EXIT NOW IF YOU HAVE HAZARDOUS MATERIAL signs on the freeway going back to Maine. So, I guess our question is answered! Go AROUND Boston and do NOT go through the tunnels! Thanks!
