You might be able to get away with a pop-up style camper that has an open utility deck, but from what I've read those can be difficult to manage in temperature extremes and won't have the full feature set you're looking for. One product I did come across in my hauler search was the following: http://www.sporthaul.com/products/boss.php I knew somebody who had one and towed it comfortable with their Honda Ridgeline. However, with a dry weight of 2,600 lbs and a GVWR of 7,000, you would be able to fully load it out with your setup. You will also need to consider the payload and hitch limitation of the 2014 4Runner. Payload is about 1,500 lbs depending on trim, and may hitch weight is 500 lbs. Additionally, keep in mind that your 4Runner, with the limited torque of that V6, is probably going to struggle to keep up to highway speeds and navigate inclines. It's not so much the weight, but the frontal surface area that really puts a hamper on towing and gets exponentially more difficult as you get over about 55mpg.Re: What did you do to your Toy Hauler today???Fabbed up a custom piece of 7075, .25" aluminum plate that integrates with my existing l-track and PitBull Trailer Restraint System for my race bike. Now I can avoid having to drill through the floor to mount the system and position the bike along with entire length of either side of the trailer depending on weight distribution requirements. I still have a couple l-track lugs that are missing (they got lost in the mail, apparently), need to round off some of the sharp edges, and am going to mount some strips of PVC or Delrin on the bottom of the plate to take up some of the space between the floor and the plate to eliminate any possibility of flex. As it sits right now, though, it's plenty secure..... Re: What are you towing in your 10' garage?I'm not hauling anything as significant as many of the folks here. Many time just my bike and sometimes another friends when we head to the track. I'm still working on a solution to utilize the existing L-track to created an adjustable mounting point for my Pit-Bull Trailer Restraint System. Should allow me do ditch any straps that would typically have to be used and be able to distribute the weight as I see fit with little fuss. Re: Toy Hauler PicturesHave a lot of work to do to get it more homely (I personally love the "sanitary" feel of all the bare aluminum and painted surfaces, but the wife begs to differ :)) but here is a few shots of my 2017 ATC 8.5x20. Looking forward to some camping trips, going to races with the kids, and being a little more comfortable at the track when I am blessed with some time for my other hobby...... Re: Chassis flex...interior doors wont stay closed when hitched twvette wrote: Picked up new Fuzion 420 fifth wheel and when it is on ground both of our two bedroom and bathroom hinged doors will stay closed. When hitched on truck it seems to be flexing and doors wont close so has some flex. These two doors are next to each other in front. Its not that the doors rub on the door frame and wont close into the frame, just the knob latch wont engage properly to latch. My previous Weekend Warrior had only one hinged door but did not have this issue. How concerned should I be or is this common and just need a slight adjust on the door handle latch. It might just be a matter of slightly adjusting the door latch "catch" on the door frame. The deadbolt on my 8.5x20 side entrance door is fine when parked, but when towing with the WD hitch installed the frame flexes juuuuuuuust enough to cause the deadbolt to hit the bottom border of the catch. Took a dremel to the catch on the bottom and took just a little over a hair-width off and it locks perfectly now in any condition.Re: 1/2 ton towable THI just purchased a 2017 ATC aluminum 8.5x20 toy hauler and pull it with my 2015 F150 XLT 2WD with the 5.0 V8. Dry weight of the trailer is about 5,500 with a tongue weight of 750. With a full tank of water (100 gallons), gear, and possibly my 400lb motorcycle, I would anticipate average trailer weights of about 7,250 lbs. Max weight is 7,700. I installed a 1,000/10,000 WD hitch and it pulls beautifully with no sway, lurching, or much adverse effects when passing/getting passed by big rigs. That being said, even with the tow rating of 10K lbs. for the truck and around 2K lbs cargo/tongue capacity, this is about as big as I would be comfortable towing with my current truck. I've never been a big fan of towing anywhere close to "max" capabilities of any vehicle. An introduction......Hello all. Just purchased my 2017 ATC 8.5x20 a few weeks ago and am getting it ready for some adventures with my wife and two young children. Already have a few trips planned and am really enjoying that feeling of learning a new hobby. Looking forward to lots of good info to be found on this forum!
