I know that would have been my first choice and one of the reasons I would have a camper in your part of the country. If you have ever read Truck Camper Magazine, they did some articles on the TC being a FEV (Family Emergeny Vehicle). Lots of folks have used their campers for emergency situations such as yours. Big RigRe: Storing Arctic Fox 990 for winterI think as long as you have a stable foundation under each jack you will be fine. My AF 990 sits outside year round sometimes on the truck & sometimes off, although mine is on cement. I never put anything under the corners of the camper to support it, I let the jacks do the work, been doing that on my two campers for 14 years & never had a problem. Big RigRe: Stuck Rieco Titan JackThis evening I went out to try to crank the jack down. I turned it clockwise with a 3/8 inch rachet like the instructions at Rieco Titan said but the jack foot only turned slightly & I was not able to even budge the jack down a little. I am wondering if anyone has ever disassembled one? Is it easy for a dummy to do or will I get in trouble? I wouldn't think it could be too complicated. I looked for information or drawings of the inside but came up with nothing. There is nothing on the Rieco Titan web site about the jack. Kind of at a dead end unless I just start taking it apart & I am not to confident in doing that. Big Rig (John)Stuck Rieco Titan JackI was going to unload the camper today but one jack doesn't seem to want to cooperate. It sounds like the clutch is slipping like when you raise the jacks & you don't let go of the remote button in time. I figure that means the motor is ok but it can't push the jack down for some reason. My next step is to try to crank it down manually. Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on?? Big Rig (John)Re: Best Truck Campers for Winter CampingI have an Arctic Fox 990 & I have camped in 9 degree F weather in comfort. I did a mod to the furnace thermostat, I replaced it with a digital one where I could change a jumper in the thermostat so that when I turned the fan switch to on it wouldn't run the furnace fan but it would run the fan that circulated the air to the basement. I use this option when I have electric hookups and I am heating with an electric space heater. I also pull the slide in when the temps get really cold. I am always a snug as a bug when in the bed as opposed to my old Lance 920 where I froze my tail off in the bed. The AF in not perfect but it seems to do the job for our cold weather camping. Big Rig (John)Re: Found this, thought I'd share with you TC'ersI WANT ONE!!!! I think that is really cool. Somebody ought to start a club for Homebilt Truck Campers. Big Rig (John)Re: New AF - a few winter questions.I have found that putting reflectix on the skylights using velcro helps a lot to keep the cold out. Our 990 has thermopane windows. We have camped in 9 degree weather & at that temp we pull the slide in so we don't have so much area to heat. We were comfortable at that temperature. The bed area is really warm, never got cold in bed like my old Lance 920. Thank goodness for the two 30 lb propane tanks because you do use a lot more propane at those low temps. I really don't like camping at those low temps but it is doable. We had to endure it on our way to the Southwest. Big Rig (John)Re: Trip to the Midwest Truck Campers & Family Christmas PartyHi Darryl & Kathy, Thanks for the ride up to the Bass Pro shop, had a good time. Hope to see you again down the road. Take care. Big Rig (John & Elaine)Re: Trip to the Midwest Truck Campers & Family Christmas PartyPhyllis, it was great to see you & Eric & your spouses again. Nice pictures you took, makes me want to look around Branson next summer to see some of the stuff we missed when we left for 24 hours. Hope your dad made it to his destination ok. Big Rig (John & Elaine)Re: Truck camper magazine and Host?I have never known them to be anything but credible. I have followed them from the beginning & they perform a fantastic service for the Truck Camping community. You can get reviews of campers & equipment, a section on how to match truck & camper, you can see the mods that other Truck Campers are doing and there are all kinds of surveys to see what folks think & how they are solving problems associated with Truck Camping. There are personal stories, etc. The list goes on. If you want go to a rally, they post the rallies submitted to them. What a great resource it is for us. If you have a question about why they haven't covered a certain TC, go to their web site & find the contact button & send them an e-mail with your question instead of speculating about the reason. They are great folks, give them a break & talk directly to them. Their magazine is also free to you, no charge! Big Rig (John)
