The less the legs have to telescope the more solid it is as was stated further up.Re: Diesel engine - Chevrolet Duramax? It's only as good as the condition it's in. The Chevy Duramax is a proven platform. New engine? Axles checked? Getting rid of a truck after buying tires? Raises too many flags for me already. There are plenty of diesel trucks to pick from and any recent 1-ton will do. Doesn't require overthinking it honestly. About the only thing I would avoid is a 6.0 Ford. Older or newer Fords are fine. Chevy Duramax's are fine in about every year as are the Ram with the Cummins engines. Some years of the ram are more desirable than others but all are capable. When you have a candidate take it to a mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection. An Internet forum is not going to spot any issues with an individual vehicle. No number of threads will offset an hour with a good diesel mechanic.Re: Please tell me about the different types of leveling sytemsLippert bought out the manufacturer of the Level Up system a several years ago I believe. I don't think it is of their design. It's a good system and is available in a 4-point and 6-point system. The 6-point system is more robust and standard on most higher end units (mainly because they often are heavier). The 4-point is getting to be pretty common on mid-range units from what we saw when shopping just a few months ago. We have the LCI Level Up and it works well (6-point) not to mention is a hoot to watch in action. Level Up Site The leveling is certainly nice but to me the best feature of these systems is putting the pin back at the previous hitching height. We don't generally stay put for more than a week so this is handy. The second best feature is the stability they bring, particularly the 6-point system. Definitely firms things up when set up. Auto Level is probably 3rd on the list for me.Re: Montana 3160 RL NC Hauler wrote: What G rated tires are you getting that will only cost you $700, and not be Chinese made? Oh I'm not. I'm getting Sailun S637's for closer to $600. That being said I was quoted G614's for $1080 and will be selling my Trailer Kings for $400. Hence the figure I posted.Re: Montana 3160 RLNothing a little ingenuity can't fix right? Our non-legacy fortunately had the roller shades and we love 'em. Noticed on the non-legacy version the shades were all over the place. Some were night/day, some were the single mcd's and some were the old school accordions! You are right the end cap is gorgeous. Our Bristol Bay had a FG end cap and that is about the only thing I can say is a step down on our current unit. Don't worry I made the dealer feel really bad about not having a legacy version on the lot LOL.Re: Montana 3160 RL3160RL Owner checking in. Picked our unit up in February after trading in our troublefree Bristol Bay fiver. I was worried that a new RV would not be as troublefree. Our 3160 has been great so far. We are changing out the tires but that is going to set me back a whopping $700 to go G-rated and I had to do it with our Bristol Bay as well. Definitely not Montana specific as the entire RV industry is plagued with China bomb tires. That's easily demonstrable amongst the various rv forums. It's cheap insurance basically to go G-rated. We are hitting the 90-day mark soon and the only thing I will be asking to have worked on is a very minute hydraulic leak on one of the front landing gear. In fact I need to just go check to see if the fittings are tight. Might be as simple as that! That's not bad and frankly I was surprised that there were no fit/finish issues considering how nice and intricate these new units are. We love the floorplan and it feels especially roomy for it's length. We also really love the second awning on the door side as we spend a good chunck of time there. Very few floorplans out there with that second awning over the outdoor entertainment center. Makes for a nice second area to set up the Weber grill at the TV! Basement is huge. We liked the theater seats actually being directly across from the tv also. A downside to the floorplan is that there is a tight spot in the hallway at the bathroom door. The door swings out into the hallway and you really need to open the bedroom door to get in comfortably. It's not a big deal for us but it's something I would point out for you to try when walking through it. If I had to do it again I may have looked harder for a Legacy package 3160 as the price on a few I've seen lately really isn't that far apart from the non-legacy version. I used that as a bargaining chip also though to get a few more bucks off. To each their own. :)Re: These things aren't just RVsThanks for sharing that link. Loved every minute of it and it motivates me to continue getting my kids here there and everywhere!Re: TollsBest thing we did before our trip from SC to Quebec last summer was get an EZ Pass from Deleware. No application fee, no monthly or annual fee. Saved a ton of hassle and allowed me to detour into NYC without near the hassle.Re: Campgrounds hit by tornadoTerrible. :( Even on a short overnight stay I always al least locate the bath house and if it looks worthless I try to find something of substance if the weather looks like it might be questionable. We've never had to make a run to one but then is not the time to come up with a destination and a route!Re: Miami Everglades Campground/ResortWas just here for the Orange Bowl and thoroughly enjoyed it. Plenty of amenities/activities. Quiet park and quiet surroundings in a predominantly commercial nursery area. We were able to get to the Keys and Everglades with ease from here. Definitely will go back if we revisit that area.
