At the age were I would like to have a motorhome but income is limited. Found a old local guy that has a '79 Dodge Honey, 25', rear side door, back bathroom, 360ci,61,000 miles. Has had it since the early '80's, bought it from the original owner w/10,000 miles on it. Body is about 95% nice Interior is very nice w/the exception that you can tell their was roof leakage in the cabinets along the side and under some windows. I could live w/it and am handy. Has new, 4 year old, 100 miles on them, tires, 16". Refer/freezer work, water pump works, water heater destroyed w/ tire blowout, furnace works, and not sure about AC. He is asking $3,500.00, I have been visiting and have looked at it a few times, won't pay 3,500.00. Would be nice to get for 2,500. but 3,000. is more realistic. I know that if I go a few thousand more I can jump up to'85 or so but the knowledge of the history and who owned it means a lot in my book. Says he has had it stored inside, since he owned it, in the winter and says it is a 360A engine ? Your thoughts would be appreciated.Re: How many of us are there? Was told by an explorer owner that the material used to extend the length of the van, frame rails, are not as heavy as the the metal the the van is built on, I would need to reinforce the extension pieces in order to install a hitch, will be pulling a motorcycle trailer for (2) bikes. Anyone have any experience w/this ? Thanks in advance.Re: Input on xplorer please. On the time/miles for the oil change, in time they figured in '09, it will be 2015 before it hits the miles mark to be changed.lol Yes, sitting a long time is hard on the vehicle, if I pick it up I may get a price from the small car lot, if they do that, to have at least the fluids change before I bring it home. Now this explorer only has the (1) set of captains chairs and a dinette that converts to a bed. when I first saw the dinette I thought, where do the adults sit. lol The double bed in the back is nice, I like not having back doors. I am considering bidding on a '90 Airstream B190 , 80,000 miles, 460 engine, looks nice but paint is badly fading per owner, it has a more modern interior, bed over the cab and a couch and seems roomier inside. They are supposed to be good units but kind of butt ugly w/that big domey thing on top. Probably wouldn't be the worst idea to wait a couple of months till their are more available to look at. Thanks for the comments and suggestions, they are what I need before I make a purchase that I will live w/for a quite a while.Re: Input on xplorer please.Have had the '71 for about 18 years, thinking of selling because it was last licensed in'10. I had thought about putting money into the '70 C30 motorhome but decided against it.Re: Input on xplorer please.Am a member of the Yahoo group. Really doesn't seem that active.
