The 3500# class II should be a 1-1/4" reciever tube, right? Thanks, TymRe: Happiness is a washed and waxed Class C Extremist wrote: Not much appreciation around here so thought I would post where I know people appreciate the work it takes. Weather is finally turning here so despite camping one weekend at the racetrack already, I finally was able to wash and wax it after storage. Too bad the picture was kind of blurry. One question.... When can you start on mine? ;-)Re: 2000 Tioga, Ford chassis, tongue weight question.... carringb wrote: If the RV manufacturer did not de-rate the chassis, then your real limit is either receiver capacity, or rear axle capacity. Keep in mind that the actual load of bike carrier is 2-3x normal trailer tongue weight due the distance of the load center. You probably should have a Class-5 receiver for carrying a dirt bike. Yeah, there is a separate sheet that lists the towing weight at 3500# and for an E450 with a V10 that has to be de-rated. Does this mean that de-rated takes into account the distance behind the axle, etc.? Thanks, Tym2000 Tioga, Ford chassis, tongue weight question....I've searched high and low and can't find a specific answer to my question. My Class C is a 29z and I want to occaissionally carry my 366# dual sport motorcycle on a motorcycle hitch hauler. According to the paper work this rig is rated at 3500# towing and the normal 10% of that in tongue weight. I'm no stranger to towing, but, my concern is frame extensions (new to me) added by the coach mfg. With a 366# bike and a 36# hauler I'm exceeding the tongue weight by a bit, and I know this is a no-no on paper, but my question is has anyone done this or had issues with frame rail flex or bending by slightly exceeding the tongue weight? I don't plan on doing this often or for long distances, but for short trips (within 60 miles or so) it would be nice to not drive separate vehicles, or tow a separate vehicle... Thanks, TymRe: Took the plunge my first Class C and first RV forum...Thanks for all the replies and input. We took her for a 1 night stay at a nice campground about 20 minutes form the house, and it was awesome. We did have to rough it a bit though, the wife forgot the forks so we had to eat our steak with a spoon. That was tonguei n cheek coming from someone who camped in a pop up until now. :-). I feel as though i've reached the pinnacle of camping!! Set up and take down is soooo easy and takes sooo little time! Normally after breaking camp in the pop up i would be a hot, sweaty mess. It was nice to leave the campground feeling nice and refreshed instead of worn out.... The PO kept the sewer hose, which I discoverd before we left the house, the one thing I didn't notice however was that he kept the water hose as well.no worries we had some in the fresh tank, and we're used to usingthe bathhouse for everything except brushing our teeth in the camper.Re: Took the plunge my first Class C and first RV forum...Shouldn't have opened my mouth.... now my two TV channels are gone... TV identified the channels as DTV air..... sounds like a pay service the PO had.... TymRe: Took the plunge my first Class C and first RV forum...Oooops! forgot a question... I turned on the TV and it worked. I was able to get two channels.... So is there free digital TV? TymTook the plunge my first Class C and first RV forum...I am a forum member for every other interest I have and I just purchased a 2000 Fleetwood Tioga Class C, so I figured I'd better pick an RV forum. :-) I've camped all my life, everything from backpacking and rough tent, 70's model Cox Poor Boy pop-up, Jayco fancy pop-up (now for sale), but decided we needed to move more to a camping style that suits easy weekend, overnight and cross country trips things not conducive to pop-up trailers. I have few questions which I'm sure other users have experienced and can shed some light on quickly. 1) For some reason, Ford decided that even though the year was 2000 that a cassette player was a good idea for audio! In a 2000 model E450 chassis what is a good CD/DVD, bluetooth handsfree, rear view camera input, easy install and inexpensive reciever? Camera mounting/wiring? 2) I have a CB and am embarking on Ham communications cert. Input from like minded folks for antenna mounting? Wiring? Radio mounting in the van chassis cab? 3) The PO left the refer running on all the time as they were frequent campers. Is this bad? We just bought this RV Wednesday and plan to head to a nearby campgroung this weekend. Part of my trial by fire OJT learning... heh Thanks, Tym
