In response to a separate topic it was mentioned that the tailgate should be left off and some sort of porch could be built. This idea has merit and interest me. AnEv942 - Waiting to see what the TC comes with. It is being delivery on its current truck and then off loaded to the ground. Inspection, repair, cleaning from there. JimK - When I am 73 I hope that I can report the same! My primary concern is the "Better Half". Unfortunately, she is not able to get on/off a tail gate. I was thinking about taking the tail gate off and putting on a Tommy Lift. Yes, it's that serious. Haven't been around long enough to have an opinion on the TG on/off. Can I paint the TC interior? Now, I am not saying that TC interior designers are all graduates of a penal work release program but there is a striking similarity of the institutional feel of most TC interiors. But if I am going to live in a TC for months I would like it to be a bit more homey than a holding cell. Yes, I know I own the TC and do what I want, but are there any practical considerations of painting and other interior design techniques that are not conducive to safe operation, habitability, maintenance? I am putting a S&S 8SC into a F-350 short bed (6.5). With the tail gate open (8.5). The height of the upper surface of the tail gate from the ground is approximately 33?. Any ideas of how to conveniently get on and off the tail gate (and the TC)? FYI – I am 75? and the wife is 64? tall and guess who it had better work for! Newbie here with a question about my first truck camper. I have read that you can add rubber mat to the floor of the truck bed to raise the TC. This appears primarily to keep the shelf from contacting the roof of the truck. So far, so good. I would then assume that some sort of support would be added to the bed rails to support the TC full width. Here are my questions: What is a good material? Should they be the full length of the bed rails? Should they also span the width of the bed immediately behind the cab? Should this supports be attached or are they retained by the weight of the TC?
