All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: 5th Wheel Entrance StepsI've had both the Port-A-Steps and now the Torklift Glowsteps. Kind of a toss-up between the two, I guess. The Port-A-Steps are great if you stay in one place for longer periods of time since they take a little longer to set up and take down and require space to store them when traveling. They have a nice hand rail and a 24"x24" top step. The ground supports are longer allowing more adjustment capability on uneven terrain. Glowsteps stow easily where the old steps were and have a slight edge on build quality. When I had an offer to try the Glowsteps, I did and decided to stick with them for the kind of travel we do(multiple short stays). Now I have a 4 step Port-A-Steps taking up space in my workshop.Re: Where to put the stinkin bikesWe struggled with different ways to carry our two long wheel base recumbents. For awhile we carried them on a carrier on the rear of the fifth wheel. Bikes got dirty so we made custom bags to keep them clean and dry. Then the bags covered the taillights so I had to add extra lights to the back of the rack. Got tired of all of that and made my own rack to carry the bikes inside the rig. At first, we stowed the bikes between the closed slides as shown in the photo below. That was ok except they were always in the way. Finally realized we hardly ever used the couch, so we took it out, moved the recliners to where the couch was and moved the bikes and rack to the rear of the rig. They stay out of the way when traveling and we can keep the bikes inside when not using them. Not a solution for everyone, but it works for the two of us. Re: Replacement StepsAnother vote for the TorkLift Glow Steps. We've had them on our rig for about a year. Way better than OEM steps. Our original steps were the three step style with about 9½" rise and the top step into the trailer was about 10½". Doesn't sound bad but the Glow Steps four step version reduced the rise to 7½" with a better tread depth. As my knees age that small difference isn't so small any more. A few years ago we went back to the factory asking for a 4 step foldout unit thinking it would be better than the similar existing 3 step. When the service folks got done, the bottom step was about 1" above the ground and the rise on the other steps wasn't much better than what we already had. They removed the new steps and put the old ones back on. After that, we purchased and liked the 4 step Port-A-Step product but those require a solid top existing step to rest on and/or attach to. Eventually we switched to the Glow Step product mostly because that product remains attached to the rig vs the Port-A-Steps that have to be packed away when moving. Pricing on the Glow Steps and the Port-A-Steps is similar. For seasonal folks who don't move often, the Port-A-Steps might be a better choice assuming the rig's existing steps are in good shape. The Glow Steps are better for those that move more often and totally replace existing steps.Re: Dometic Americana refrigerator DrewE wrote: Why not consult the catalog that Dometic provides? It looks like that catalog is directed at the Australian market and doesn't include the new Americana DMC models which are intended as an alternative to the current 6 and 8 cu. ft. absorption models currently in many of today's RVs. Other posters seem correct that there is little info available at this time. Even Camping World, who advertised it in the Sept 2016 Trailer Life magazine, has no info (that I could find at this time) on their own website.Re: Just a hassleI was the OP on this thread that seems to have digressed a bit. But anyway, I thought I would followup on the results. The manager of the Dover (Tampa), FL store called me as a result of the post. She attempted to obtain the showerhead from another store but was unsuccessful. She agreed to take my shipping information and have the item sent to me when it became available. As it turned out, we were in the Tampa area today and went by the store to pay for it in person. In the interim, they got a supply in and I was able to get one at the sale price with my raincheck and coupon. I appreciate the efforts of the Tampa manager. My only comment is that the waste of her time and mine could have been avoided if the CW call center would accept coupons when an order is placed. The coupons are uniquely numbered so they shouldn't be able to be used more than once. Anyway, problem is now solved.Just a hassleI bought a few things from CW at the Tampa RV Super Show last month. Shortly afterward, I got an email with a $10 Camping World Merchandise Certificate. The email said: "As a token of our appreciation for your business, please accept the merchandise certificate below worth $10 off your next purchase. Just print out this email and take to any Camping World Supercenter nationwide or redeem by calling our call center at 1-800-626-5944. ..." CW put their chrome Oxygenics shower head on sale so we went by their store in Dover, FL which was out of stock. Called their Summerfield, FL store with the same result. So, with the sale ending soon, I decided I better order it by phone and pay the shipping, figuring the merchandise certificate would offset the shipping expense. When I tried to place the order, first the rep told me the item is on backorder there as well. I said ok, I could wait. Then she told me I couldn't use the certificate over the phone and after receiving the order at an undetermined future date, I would have to send in the certificate by snail mail to get the $10. I didn't ask, but I'll bet it would be in the form of a gift card. My certificate expires next month, so I guess if I didn't get the order in time, I wouldn't be able to use it anyway. I thanked her for her time and did not place the order. Too many other buying options to waste my time on this one.Re: Triple slides an issue?Been camping with four slides the last five years. I took my awning hook (any long stick will do) and painted lines on it that correspond to the extended length of each slide. When we pull into a questionable site, I walk around the rig checking to make sure I have adequate clearance from utility posts and trees. Now and then I have to pull forward or back or adjust side to side to make things work. Majority of the time, no problem at all.
