My camper is on the bigger side and I wouldn't want 5 of us, even if 3 were kids in it at one time except maybe once a year. Pull trailer will let you get away with a smaller PU, have fun shopping, Grant.Re: Narrowing our TC listI would give the wet bath models a second look, those will have a bigger area to hang wet clothes and towels from, much like a wet room. Our 1150 AF also has more counter space than alot of the Class As that we will move up to some day. Have fun shopping.TC loading trickI posted on another thread, and than thought I'd start it's own thread I saw this trick used by a fellow AF owner, I haven't made the set up for my truck yet. Most PU's have openings or pockets where you would insert stake's when you add sideboards to the PU box. If there 2" square make a square plywood block about 1" deep that fits that opening, make two. Then make two 3" plywood square's from 1/4" plywood, glue one 2" square centered to each 3" square. When TC is loaded on your pickup insert 2" block into the front stake pocket, one on each side closest to the cab. Buy 2 cheap 2 dollar paint brushes and glue one to each 3" plywood square with the bristle pointing to, and just touching your camper, let glue dry. Now in the future when you want to load your camper just drop the 2" blocks into the 1st and 3rd stack openings on the driver side, bristles pointing inward. As you back under camper the paint brushes should just touch the camper and guide you to a good centered position. Do make a point the camper has been razed high enough to clear the truck bead. Or you can, do as I do and not as I say, and watch your wife waive you back, like she just stepped on a bee's hive and her arms have taken on uncontrolled movements that look no different, going forward or backward.Re: OUCH!... DW's xk8 Jag has been a great car for 18 years, but not a good tow car and can't fit the grandkid. I thought she'd look good in a jeep silver black top kinda thing. She walked right up to the JGC trailhawk I test drove it but, looks like a lot of things can go wrong with all the fancy options, and at 52K, a bit of sticker shock too. Trying to point her to the Wranglers, signed by help want to return to Quartzsite Az.Re: Quiet Back Roads and a Truck CamperOur travel plans are no travel plans. Less than 200 miles a days and stay for 2 days. We can't always follow this rule but we like this travel guideline. There's some really easy phone apps that help finding off the grid travel stops.Re: Winnabago Jounery w/ Cummins vs Cat dieselThanks for all the below / above post, I tried to search the topic 1st before asking the question, but couldn't find much. I feel good about where we are, doing our homework for now. And knowing that last years new coach, might turn up as our coach soon. Marry Christmas, have fun and be safe.Winnabago Jounery w/ Cummins vs Cat dieselThe next few years wife and I plan to move from our AF truck camper to a class A diesel, I seem to keep coming back to the Winnabago Jounery in the 35 to 37 ft range. My question relates to the few years where both motors were offered or at lease the Cat motor was used. I understand your Rv or hamburger is only as good as the guy making it that day. Would you be scared off with the Cat motor. Were not in a hurry to buy but know the day will come where we will want a bigger rig than the TC. Thanks for your input, have fun and be safe.AF 1150 question ?Hey campers: Tonight my wife asked me why our campers water heater was making a odd noise. It seemed to be happening only when the hot water tank was heating by the electric 110 v circuit. It sounded like a air leak sucking or blowing air. After turning the water off you could hear the noise inside and out but it was coming from the outside water heater tank area. I thought it might be a the pressure relief valve but only on the electric setting. ? seemed odd, Thanks for your help, be safe.Re: Towing kerry4951 wrote: WarrenS wrote: I think I would attatch the chains to the safety chain loops near the end of the hitch rather than the loops. kerry4951 wrote: Why don't you look at the Reese 2 1/2" extensions. They offer one in 41"-48" length. I use one with stabilizing chains for my ATV trailer and it works great. I did remove my factory OEM hitch and replaced it with a Reese Titan hitch. There was a big difference in how much better the Reese was compared to the factory GM hitch. Thats the purpose of the loops, to attach the safety chains. Keeping the chains back on the loops keeps them out of the way and still makes the whole rig rock solid. Maybe some do hook off their chains at the end of the extension, but I never saw a need to do it. I have one of thoes Reese 48" extentions gathering dust in my garage, It was legal to tow my boat with but, I felt unsafe. You added chains to yours to help the sway left and right. That mod you made to yours might be ilegal and dangerous. That mod might release the original manufacturer of any liability. You had that mod engineered right? I hope so. What I do know is that at best you need to run your safty chains from you boat or trailer to your trucks towing hitch, not the trucks towing receiver. Sorry about my views on this subject and how they might not aline with yours. I use a Super Hitch with a 48" Super Truss Receiver, and leave the modifications to the engineers.
