I'll make up a revised bracket to use probably a light duty antenna spring, and mount it on the driver's side. When counting the height of the railing on the roof, the antenna does stick up a little higher than the a/c, so a spring will give me some extra comfort level.Antenna Spring QuestionsHowdy. I have a Wilson 4G Omni-directional outdoor antenna to mount on the roof luggage rack tubing on my motorhome. The antenna comes with a sheet metal mounting bracket that screws to the base of the antenna. My concern is driving under low hanging branches and possibly knocking it off. I have seen spring mounts for CB and other antennas, and Wilson has a truckers antenna that has a spring, so I am wondering about adding a spring to my setup. Firstly, I am not particularly knowledgeable about this sort of thing, so keep that in mind. The antenna I have is 75 ohm and the coax connects directly to the antenna. If I screw a spring to the antenna coax connection, how do I then connect the cable? Is there a pass-through inside the spring? Or do I have it all wrong in my head about how this works? Any ideas appreciated. Thanks in advance. Jim B.Re: Weather along route Sourdough Biscuits wrote: Thanks deepdoc1, I'm sure BOTH scenarios will be important to me starting next year. Didn't mean to side track your thread. :) Less of a side-track, more of a bump-nudge ;-) Serendipity can be a good thing in a thread. Safe travels.Re: Weather along routeIf I get your question, we are talking about two different but related issues. It sounds like you want a weather alert based on where you are at the moment(?) which most of the aforementioned weather apps have the ability to do that, although I can't tell you about notifications vs alarms. I will investigate that because it's an important distinction. [Edit] I know on my phone, I can set exceptions for individual apps so they can notify me even during quiet time. See if that works for your situation. [end edit] The thing I'm looking for is real-time weather alerts for conditions down the road some number of miles, so I can decide whether to wait or go on. For me, the answer is to make sure I check available resources before and during travel and use things like weather radar apps to get a sense of surrounding conditions.Re: Weather along route:BRe: Weather along routeI also agree about, and frequently use, the weather radar features while en route.Re: Weather along routeSirius is on my list of requirements for the head unit upgrade I am planning for, so that's good to know. The Garmin Dezi (and other hardware units, probably) looks like pretty much what I'm looking for, but if I have permission to pick nits, I wonder why smartphone navigation apps don't have that potential yet. I guess I can send a feature request to CoPilot. I balk a little at having to buy yet another device, but in the same breath, I acknowledge the wisdom of having some redundancy. Could be Christmas, Part 2??Re: Weather along routeI guess I didn't put all the info in my first post (my bad), so I'll add to it now. I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 with multiple weather apps that I use frequently, and I do get weather for any point on the map that I currently occupy. I always check the forecast before I get on the road, and fairly often during the day. I also understand that tornados are hard to forecast and that thunderstorms "typically" are ponderous and more easily forecast, but tornado/thunderstorm watch/warning alerts do come along between my checks, and these days, thunderstorms can pop up with little advance notice. I have no particular problem continuing my current methods of due diligence while on the road, but I'm not up on all the tech solutions there are, and I'm just cursed with the desire to hunt snipes. ;-) In my feebleminded-ness, I don't see a marked difference between the ability of an app to have close to real-time traffic reporting, and the potential to also pull info from the various weather stations around the country and present the watch/warning info as an overlay for whatever navigation app I'm using. So, to sum up, I was just wondering if tech had caught up to my feverish dreams yet, or if I'm doomed to slogging along as I have always done (tongue-in-cheek). Thanks again.Weather along routeI know Google Maps and CoPilot (and others) have active traffic reporting along your planned route, but I haven't seen any apps that have weather alerts/forecasting along the route. I have had several close calls with tornados and thunderstorms that pop up without much warning, and while I always look at weather during a trip, I yearn for an app that knows what my route is, and can pop an alert when it thinks I'm headed for a danger zone. Is that still a pipe dream, or have I missed something? Regards, JimBRe: CCC2 Thermostat QuestionOk, that seemed to work. Fan spped was Med, so set it to auto and overhead fan turned off, leaving furnace on as desired. Thanks!
