We bought a second home when we make our last trip to Oregon and it will be our primary depository of those things that we picked up on our travels. I named the house "Rivendell", that is the "Last Homey Place East of the Mountains" in Tolkien's tales of Middle Earth. It is our sanctuary and we are surrounded by ENTs and their kind, yet only blocks to family and healthcare providers. If a couple of whitehaired folks honk and wave at you while your on the road in your RV, it's just us saluting you and wishing safe travels. David and Sharon83 and have hung up the keysOver the years I have seen posts asking, when is it time to hang up the keys, well for this guy it is 82 years and 9 months. I suppose I could buy a "B" or "B +" and we could still do some traveling but it would only work for a year or two. Seven months ago I realized that after driving the towed to the storage yard, moving clothes and supplies into the RV and hooking up the towed was taking two to four hours and then after three or four hours on the road I needed a nap. Degenerative spinal discs and inflammatory Poly Arthritis was slowing me down and causing a lot of pain, it even sent me to the ER a few months ago. So we sat down and talked about travel and decided that driving a four wheeler or flying and driving was the best we could do with our health issues. Five days ago it was clear and warn so we went to the RV to get some of our kitchen supplies to take to our OR home. A guy stopped at the RV and asked if we were interested in selling, I said sure and we got our price less cost of 6 new tires and new front brakes. No need to place a for sale ad or dicker. He and his son met us at the RV, we filled out papers, visited the bank to deposit the cash and in three hours it was gone, we took our eldest out to lunch for helping fill out the papers and counting the cash, told the storage yard we wouldn't be a tenant any longer, cancelled the insurance, transferred the title with DMV and we were having a cold drink in the living room back at home. I think the old saying about a boat owners two happiest days are buying and selling but in this case, about 02:00 am, I woke and almost cried, the memories came flooding back from our first camping trip with a borrowed tent and Coleman stove with a 4yo and a 5yo, to our last trip up to OR in Sept. in the Winnie. I'll miss it and miss all of you, at least we did it till we just couldn't do it anymore. No more Pendleton Shirts smelling like a campfire, no more kids and grandkids giving gooey S'more kisses, no more sunrises at "Q" To quote Bob Hope, "Thanks for the Memories". DavidRe: Side door latch/lock won't close without assist...As I see it you have just a couple of options, trash the lock and get a new one or really look into how the locks work. unless you are interested in learning lock smithing, I'd just replace the whole lock. They are poorly made and do not come with a lifetime guarentee. It is not a new problem. How do you in the S/E handle high humidity inside your rig?Our nephew lives in Jacksonville on a side canal off the intercoastal waterway and he is having problems with mold and moisture damage in his small class A. It is so bad he is moving it to their second home in Colorado. He has been running the AC 24/7 in his rig. Granular absorbent is usually the first thing I'd suggest along with adequate air flow but that hasn't seemed to work. What practices do you follow.Re: stroke of genius???All I can say to all of you that are experiencing this winter fickled and mostly over the top horrific weather is, May God Bless and keep All of You. As much as I hate California of reasons other than the weather, it was nice to run the AC in the Truck after stocking up on water, gatorade and other basic needs. Please take this as a suggestion that you move west. There are 150 million reasons to stay in familiar territory, hunker down and wait for spring. None for moving to taxes and fees that surpass all other states and expected to double or triple in the next five to ten years. I hope you can stay warm and live free.Re: Stolen Catalytic ConverterWhat I have been told by Different government agencies and several exhaust shops is, OEM and aftermarket CATs have the same federally mandated warranty and each vehicle has a coded number for the appropriate and AQMD approved CAT. There should be no difference between an OEM CAT and a aftermarket CAT in performance or longevity.Re: Stolen Catalytic ConverterWhat I have been told by Different government agencies and several exhaust shops is, OEM and aftermarket CATs have the same federally mandated warranty and each vehicle has a coded number for the appropriate and AQMD approved CAT. We were at Morro Bay SP and there is no campground WiFi, using the Winegard Pro brought in some local channels but not much there. I have Verizon as my cell carrier and am on the cheapest no contract, month to month plan. It is somewhere around $30 a month but I get a discount for being a long time customer and using AutoPay. I'm not sure how much data I pay for but it seems like 5 mb. It doesn't matter, I looked up the plans and figured I needed to upgrade to the $55 a month plan or the $65 a month plan. We drove over to Los Osos to the Verizon store and I explained my situation to the salesman(young guy in his 20's) and he hemmed and hawed and then suggested the plan one level above my current plan for a net increase of $5 per month and an increase to 5 gb a month. Like the kid explained if I needed more data, they would be there and I could upgrade to another plan or by a Gig or two to tied me over until I had better campground WiFi. The next ten days using the TV like we would at home and did not run out of data. We do not stream and I have been told that is the big data user, I don't know but for $60 a year, I'm a happy camper. The only draw back is you must have cell coverage.Re: RV Park Wi-Fi Issues magicbus wrote: The easiest way with no extra equipment is to use your phone as a wifi hot spot. Check with your phone provider if you don’t know how to do this. Dave We were camping in Morro Bay St Pk, wifi not there, used my Galaxy S9+ for hotspot no problem until data was exhausted. I use Verizon for cell service, monthly plan $35 a month, less $5 for autopay. Went over to Los Osos to the Verizon store, explained to the young man at the counter my dilemma( I had looked up plans before we went) told him I wanted to go to the $55 prepaid plan, he hemmed and hawed and then suggested a plan, explained it fully and said if it didn't work come back and change it. Asked how much, an extra $5 a month over my current plan. Used it constantly for 10 days and never ran out of Data. Of course our favorite campground has ZERO cell service and typical wifi. There is absolutely no cell plan that will help if there is zero cell signal. Okay satellite will.Re: Please help with solar and electrical questions...Okay I will admit I am damm near fearless when it comes to installing stuff and when I did my solar system, I had my DGS's help. Installing a system is as easy a it can be if you do it one step at a time. Juat read up on what to do. Lots of help here in the forums. We have a small system it cost about $250 all total and was a pain in the butt to get some of the wires in place but we can go ten days without electric. Moderate sunshine and no big draw items. I would spend more and buy better next time.
