Any opinions on using a thermostat from a household unit to control water temperature?Re: Water heater out for repairs - anything else to do?pianotuna, thanks for that info. I was told the residential will fit. I will find out today.Re: Water heater out for repairs - anything else to do?$50 is what I paid. I would prefer to upgrade an old one to make it better than a new one. Everything is made less durable these days, so just want to get this one in as good of shape as possible while I have it out.Re: Water heater out for repairs - anything else to do?It was working fine until the fitting cracked. Only can guess, but the output water line fitting cracked right at the entry to the tank maybe due to cold weather or improperly installed. Didn't know how to get the leftover pvc out of the tank, so after talking to several people, I used a propane torch to burn it out. Got the new fitting taped and in only to find the short had made a hole. It's a '96 model and if I could get one for less that $300, I would just keep this one for a backup!Water heater out for repairs - anything else to do?Pulled my 10 gallon water heater today to have a hole welded. I had a fitting crack which shorted the temp control and made a hole in the tank. I had the hole welded today and the repair guys suggested replacing the element and using a thermostat from a house water heater to replace the damaged sensor. After removing the tank, I found, when draining, that there was a good bit of white particulate in the tank. We removed the element which is covered with similar white "stuff". I plan on getting it back in tomorrow and wanted advice on their ideas and anything else I might should do to get this heater ready for 15 or more years of operation. Any advise would be appreciated!Re: Project Rambler - #1Thanks for the replies! Very good read on the red max #3. I'm gonna need to get the paint off that molding and repaint/cover with something while the caulk is off. Suggestions on what to put on the molding (paint?) and how to get the last bit of caulk off the decals/fiberglass before application of the clear?Re: Project Rambler - #1As can be seen in last pic on both top and bottom of molding, and in this pic of the old chime, the caulk is discolored and not in the best shape. What is the best method of removing old caulk from around the exterior without damaging anything? Re: Project Rambler - #1Is this normal? Any way to make it less noticeable? The next issue are the extremely old stickers. I've tried using adhesive remover, and they don't even start to let go. Re: Project Rambler - #1A closeup of the door. Many fine lines that are quite noticeable. Project Rambler - #1Hello all, my name is Murphy and I recently purchased my very first RV. After months of searching, I found this '96 model 37' Imperial Custom Holiday Rambler. There are numerous issues with this unit which I intend to address as money and time allow. The exterior was dirty and oxidized, but looks much better after a good scrubbing with soap and water. The first thing I want to do is put whatever good protectant/wax on the exterior that will best preserve the finish. I will post various pictures of exterior issues that I would like to work on. Any and all advice/suggestions are welcome!
