I was amazed at how quite the hitch is now.Re: Equalizer hitch failure Ron3rd wrote: The shank on that ball in the photo above appears to be much too long and will contact the sockets when they swing in and out. The ball on my Equalizer (Equalizer Brand Ball) extends maybe 1/8" past the nut. That's a problem waiting to happen IMO. Yes and that was the purpose of my poor service post on the CW service and installation forum. Even with equalizer's instructions that the ball was wrong, they did the same thing with the new one. It is now fixed at my expense from a different dealerRe: ~Post your campsite photos here~ 07PSDCREW wrote: 3puttnutt, We have the same Damon Hornet brand. Except ours is the fifth wheel version. We love ours! We loved ours, but the park we were in had a rule that you could not transfer ownership after the camper was 10 years old so when it hit 7 years old we put it up for sell with every intention of buying a new park model. Then life and some medical issues for my wife got in the way so we were camper less for a while. Now with the new TT we are going to keep it mobile so we can enjoy other locations.Re: Equalizer hitch failure RinconVTR wrote: Interesting. The cause and effect makes a lot of sense. However, your first pic shows a small fraction of the ball shank, doesn't it? There is not a mark on it. Did you send different pics to progressive and camping world by chance? Can you post them? The pictures that Todd used to make his diagnosis was very similar to that first photo, but included my license plate number and some other personal stuff that I did not post on the public forum. I do have pictures of the new replacement hitch that Camping World gave me. It shows the same problem with the longer shaft, but the new hitch had not been used when these photos were taken. After a week of trying to get CW to order the correct ball I finally took the hitch to another dealer and paid for the right ball and installation out of my pocket. You can read about that ordeal here http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/27924763.cfm We had a trip planned for this weekend and when I went to hookup my trailer Friday morning, I discovered that when CW gave me the replacement hitch head, they did not set it up the same as the original. They used 7 spacer washers instead of the original 5. They installed the hitch 2 inches higher on the riser than original, making the nose of the trailer sit too high when connected. They also had the bolts that go through the socket sleeves over torqued to where they would not budge even with the weight distributing bars in them to use as leverage. I sat there in the storage parking lot rebuilding the hitch after I went and got my tools from my work, and buying the few things I did not have like a torque wrench. I mean all CW had to do was measure and count to set the hitch up identical to how the original was. It was not rocket science. That is my last rant on this subject LOL, thanks for listening.Re: Choosing a power tongue jackI installed a Barker 3500 with an 18" lift on my new trailer. It is about a 7500 pound trailer with about 750 pound tongue weight. It lifts the trailer and my truck like a champ. I bought from amazon and got free shipping with my prime membership. The installation took about 15 minutes.Re: Equalizer Bolt Head Sheared Offhere is the thread about my failure. It was caused by having a ball with too long of a threaded shank. in the 1st photo you can see the threads hanging down to low and the gouge in the side of the socket that receives the bar. Todd took one look at that photo and started the wheels in motion to get it fixed. http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/27912222.cfmRe: Equalizer Bolt Head Sheared OffWhen you call Equalizer, ask for Todd Munford. He will want you to send him some detailed pictures so be ready to exchange email addresses with him. He is great to work with and has been helping me resolve a dealer installation issue. Remember they are in Utah so they are in a different time zone.Re: Double Towing in NCI am not going to say whether it is legal or not, but driving back from Emerald Isle, NC to Kernersville, NC today we saw 5 different rigs who were double towing. All were 5th wheels with golf carts on open trailers pulled behind the camper.Re: ~Post your campsite photos here~So this is a little different. These are photos of our last camper that we decided to set up permanently at the coast here in NC. The campground is White Oak Shores, in Stella, NC. This is about a 10 minute drive from Emerald Isle or a 20 minute boat ride to Swansboro on the Intercoastal Waterway. We sold this camper about 3 years ago, but it is still there and the new owners seem to be taking good care of it. We just visited the campground this weekend in our new TT Re: If I sell it -- How do I get paid??Meet at the buyers bank, do the transaction there so someone can notarize any paperwork, and leave there with either a certified check or cash. If you want cash, you will probably have to give the bank advance notice as they usually don't keep stacks of cash around anymore. (at least my banks don't anyway)
