If you like dry camping pick just about any DEC camoground in the Adirondacks, all beautiful and there is a good reason so much has been written about the place. For touristy type stuff, shopping and all that thousand islands and Alexandria bay. Hiking, kayaking, outdoors type stuff Adirondacks, history finger lakes. You can find a bit of all that in any of those areas though. Fishing is good throughout if you are into that.Re: Hauling ATV in bed and towing TT cbshoestring wrote: Txsurfer wrote: here you go Granted I have a cheap tri-fold ramp I bought at Harbour Freight, BUT backing out of the bed, down those ramps, raises my blood pressure. Backing of the bed rails would put me over the top. Speaking of OVER THE TOP...I like having the security of a tool box to run into if I load it too hot and don't stop. The thought of driving OFF the other bed rail is a bit much for me. Try doing it with a side by side where you have almost zero visibility behind and below you. Ramps have never really given me the heebie jeebies though. I would back off that truck with no qualms. Getting down off the bed once the quad is secured might be another story though...Re: Letchworth State ParkThe outside of loop 100 is probably your best bet then. Go for the backside as some sights actually connect in the back with loop 200 such as 107 and 239. Most of the outside sights are pretty roomy though. I want to say 135 was one we really enjoyed that would work for you. Those back up to woods and can be muddy however.Re: Lake Placid and BostonOn the flip side, if you find something nice up that way let is know op! Last time I camped near Lake Placid it was on Algonquin in a back packing tent. Beautiful area and I don't get up there nearly enough obviously.Re: Bar Harbor MaineBar Harbor Campground is a favorite of ours, but we liked Blackwoods in the park itself also. No hookups and a little stricter on overall length but we like the no frills places anyway.Re: Lake Placid and BostonAvan, come on, really? OP from Ontario looking to stay near Lake Placid and Boston. Of course they are talking about Lake Placid, NY and Boston, MA. I mean, former Olympic venue, high peaks area, Adirondacks. Lake Placid is still a huge tourist destination and on the way to Boston for them.Re: Hamlin Beach State Park, Tell me about itWebster family campground is the closest to the city that I know of.Re: Hamlin Beach State Park, Tell me about itI like Hamlin Beach, probably closest state park to my house. You are a good 35 to 40 minutes from downtown. Electric service was upgraded a few years ago. Sights for real big rigs are slightly limited imo, so book early if that is your situation. About the biggest downside to me is around dusk in the summer the breeze usually does away to nothing, and since the campground is pretty wooded it can get a bit smokey. The beach itself is hit or miss. Usually plenty of area, but they will close down certain sections to swimming due to water quality issues. Seaweed ripped off the shoals by storms can build up and make a mess. Really depends on wind direction and what not. Our kids have always had fun in the stuff though! While I have never stayed there, Webster Family Campgrounds is much closer and looks nice on paper http://www2.monroecounty.gov/parks-webster.php Probably a 45 minute commute at least, but Letchworth State Park offers a lot more sightseeing, views, hiking, etc and is one of my favorite state parks.Re: Gas station help!I like to start looking when I get a little under a half tank. I have learned not to pass up an easy access station just because we have a half tank or the price is a little higher than we have been seeing either. The GasBuddy app has saved some headaches as well. It is nice having some pics of a few nearby stations to plan things out.Re: Acadia in September, dinner places? It has been a few years since we have eaten there, but the chart room sounds like it may be what you are looking for mealwise.
