Part of the reason values are going up fast for these cars. Time to restore that early Dodge class C!Re: Ca emission control starting 2024Well looks like Generator bans start in 2028, but you can buy one out of state and bring it in? Oh My!Re: Ca emission control starting 2024 StirCrazy wrote: 3 tons wrote: https://rvtroop.com/californias-war-on-out-of-state-diesel-motorhomes 3 tons that doesn't seem all that bad, they just "have to have working emissions systems" from what I read. So, anyone who has modified their unit would be in trouble, but a well maintained and operating unit should have no issues. The problem is how are they going to enforce it, do they set up spot checks at the border? or is it just if you get pulled over for something else, they can look under the hood, which opens it up to a whole bunch of new issues. Is the police officer a trained mechanic and so on? I don't know why you guys haven't voted CARB out yet. they are, overstepping in gas engine emissions. One problem is that "CARB" headed by Mary Nichols is appointed by the Governor (not voted in). They are a very powerful agency here in Californie, supported by the Governor and most of the legislature. Many other states are adopting their laws and policies as well. Small engines will no longer be sold new next year for gardening equipment including chain saws. So far RV dealers are still offering generators, but not sure where that is headed. As far as getting your Motorhome RV smogged; only a few places are big enough to do this work and they tend to charge a premium for the service. Example for a 2002 24 ft Mini Winni class C on a ford E450 chassis gas V10 was 120$ American a year ago. I just smogged a 1988 Mustang and that was 128$ American. Registration fee is 149$ American and that is the minimum fee for a car! Gas cars older than 6 years have to be smogged every other year to register. New gas cars even pay a 20$ smog abatement fee every year on the registration! Later model cars and trucks that are OBD2 are less to smog but still 60$ and up. Classic cars and trucks prior to 1974 are fully exempt and pay 149$ American for registration unless it's a pickup where you have to pay additional weight fee. Luv Califorie but the laws and expenses are onerous. Nice word!Re: hauling capabilityAs stated weigh both axels independently at CAT scales with at least a half tank or more of fuel on empty truck. The rear axel will carry nearly all the load of a truck camper. >90%. If you have a dually you can carry just about anything. SRW config your limit will be the tire rating X2 for the rear axel. Example: for my 98 Dodge 2500 Rear axel empty no tailgate is 2540lbs Tires are rated 3042 at 80 lbs. So max weight on rear axel not to exceed 6084. Axel is rated at 7000 so the tires are the limiting factor. I weighed the truck again with camper loaded and rear axel was 5840. Good tires are a must and inflated properly. I run 80 in the rear and 50 in the front. Air bags can be used to level truck if needed. Advisable not to tailgate either! My truck is 25 years old and not broken yet!Re: VIDEO: AC Shroud Replacement, Transmission, Fuel InjectorsBought a new replacement shroud a few months ago for my dometic penguin. Bought "ICON" brand off Amazon. ~175$ American for it. Good reviews. Plastic seems better quality than the original dometic. Had to drill a few new holes to line up with the 4 existing mounting holes. Put spreading washers under the screw heads which I had before. I cover my camper when not using and this is my third shroud.Re: AC problemTry running the fan without the air conditioner. If you get the same symptom (fan not running) sometimes spinning the fan by hand with a stick may get it going until you stop it. Remove the shroud on top of the air conditioner and usually a sheet metal panel. Unplug from shore power before you proceed. There are usually two capacitors. The big one has connections for fan, herm, and ground. Clean connections and try again. Should be slip spade connections. Take a picture or write down a diagram for which wire goes where. Test capacitors with a meter. They are labeled on the side for micro farads. Good multimeter needed that has this feature. Some are riveted spade connections on top of the capacitor and these can become loose also like mine was! Soldering the spade male connector on top of the capacitor to the rivet may fix if found loose and the cap tests good. Otherwise replace capacitors with new one at a time and retest. I bought a spare 15 years ago and have not had to use it yet but I got it!Re: Has anyone replaced a switch for their Onan generator?Jimh406: You might test it with an ohm meter after you remove it from the wall and disconnect the wires. May be able to work some contact cleaner into the switch itself. The prime is not needed on the propane generator like the gas ones. Just start and stop. Might have to do multiple starts if propane has been turned off a while. I wait ~30 seconds between start attempts.I take it always works fine from the switch on the generator itself just not so handy! I have the same setup on my Lance TC.Re: Truck tires10-4 Mr. Gritdog, Maybe the OP has had some bad luck as I did for several years and is frustrating. Fortunately my tire failures were detected by vibration from the bulge in the tires or by inspection at a stop and pulled off before they blew. Always on a rear tire either side. Had a series of this problem ( maybe 4 times over 5 years) only during the summer hot months with camper on) with Goodyear Wrangler and Remington tires not bought at the same time. I believe Remington was also made by Goodyear at the time. Running Hankook the last 6 years with no problems and now on my second set using the new tire pressure gauge over that time frame. Don't trust the cheep gauges and cross check between gauges. Insist on steel valve stems. Check the TP first thing in the morning before the sun hits them. Inspect at stops. Avoid potholes! Good luck with that. 80 lbs per tire gives about 280 lb extra carrying capacity on the rear axel vs 75 lbs per Goodyear chart on my stock 245/75/16 E rated tires. 6084 vs 5800. These tires were widely used on class C motorhomes as well in a dully configuration. Next truck will be a dually and of course a heavier camper!Re: Truck tiresWeight of the camper should not be an issue on the dually truck. Each E rated tire at 80 lbs cold should handle over 3000 pounds each for 12K. Hence the GVWR of the dually truck. Weighing the truck empty and with the camper loaded for each axel is important. Highly recommend! On my setup with my lance 10 ft. 95% is on the rear axel and only a measly 5% on the front. I had separation problems for several years (fortunately never blew one always a rear tire) and finally found my air pressure gauge was off reading high by 4 LBS. Replaced that and bought a good one. Since then no problems. I have single rear wheel drive which means my margin is small. Potholes, speed, and ambient air temperature play a big part on tire temperature as well. Always experienced the separation on a hot afternoon or rough pavement (which is the norm in Cali) The shock of hitting potholes can easily cause separation when loaded. I drive at about 60 mph and have been running Hankook Dynapro HTs for the last 7 years. Just replaced two front after 6.5 years due to cracking on the sidewalls. In a sunny hot environment like Florida and the southwest the sun does take a toll. Garaging should help that though. Rear axel weight empty on my dodge 2500 is only2540 and with my camper is 5840. obviously I run 80 in the rear but only 50 in the front when loaded. Air bags level the Truck with camper and I have auxiliary load leaf springs well just touching the stop. Handles well. Tires are the weak link for us truck camper people! Use a couple different air guages to verify.Re: New Super Duty on orderTroyt: that’s the truck I want to replace mine with. DWR version. Keep us posted on the performance of the “Godzilla” and the options you got. Likes and dislikes. My dodge still going strong but time is an enemy of us all!
