I could explain every point, but who cares? For those determined to question my financial stability/ intelligence... if you meant to run me off... Done.Re: I have a TOW VEHICLE headache.Well, I've been determined to ignore the peeps on here who are determined to ruffle my feathers about money. I haven't left. We've been dealing with our new camper. We solved the problem temporarily... but along the way, have received advice about the TRUCK. First, we negotiated with the dealer to include towing it to our site as part of the even trade. They did. now we have a great trailer and NO tow vehicle. However, a friend said they had a huge truck for his 5th wheel, and got frustrated that all that money was tied up in a truck he didn't use except for moving the camper. He was only moving it 5 or 6 times every year. Since we are off on a JOB in it, we checked with people there. Seems a LOT of people are here with huge campers and no truck. They just pay someone to move it, as they don't move often or too far. So, for the moment, we are going to do just that. Seems they will move it for under $100... set up included. So, for the near future, we can avoid having to buy one. However, once we get back to doing about 10 or 12 Nascar races each year, we will HAVE to do it. If this job works out, that won't happen for at least a year. Meanwhile, I have everyone's kind advice documented. We shall be watching for any of the "possibilities" to show up at a good price. Then we'll leap for it. So appreciate all you guys here do to help people like us. Now, I have the daunting task of trying to get online and find BOOKS on every single thing in this camper. I can't imagine anyone trading anything in and not providing the manufacturer's books with the used vehicle. Ugh. We can't figure out the complicated entertainment center or the fireplace or the air bed contraption or EVEN THE WINDOWS! We are reasonably intelligent and have owned four campers. Yet, we can't get any of the windows to open. (!!!) Duh. But I'm serious. So, I'm off to do a long hard search for all of it. Thanks, you guys!Re: I have a TOW VEHICLE headache.Has anyone noticed that the ones who want to pursue my financial stability issues don't even read my posts???? Ha. Typical. Again, they are calling me a GUY. Guy named Angie? See, they aren't reading. And did I explain that people with BUDGETS are smart? Doesn't matter how much money you have or not. If you are smart and have a certain amount budgeted, you try to stick with it. It's unfair to attack me with these claims that I can't balance a checkbook or that I'm over-extended. We have ZERO credit card debt. How many of you can say that? Okay, SO HELP ME, I will ignore any more rude comments about MY money. Thanks so very much for the help with the truck question. I wish our Keystone Avalance 345TG was at least Gen prepped. I just called the dealer where we will be picking it up on Thursday. It's not. Again, I never considered that if it is prepped. That would have been wayyyy cool. Oh well. Since (thankfully) it has been mentioned that we may not be able to add a generator, I'm sitting on hold with Keystone right now to ask. Yep, it can be done. They offered also to send me any manuals that might not be provided on the used 5er. Very nice! Thanks! I love reading the posts. Welll, most of them. Ha.Re: I have a TOW VEHICLE headache.Mad... I am listening... making notes. Yes, I'm a packrat. But with each camper, I've lightened a bit. I will definitely look for a larger truck. THanks for all of your advice. You DID mention one more issue. We are spoiled with the Generator in our MH. We have the dogs....toy poodle and yorkie... but they only weigh 8 pounds total. I think the Avalanche is prepped for a generator, but I hadn't considered the added weight. For a 5500 Onan (if that is large enough?????), I'd bet that one is pretty hefty. Will have to google it and add it to the weight. We often stop to eat or shop, and we are spoiled running the air conditioner for our Maggie & Waggles. Oh! And the fireplace is just a heater... not a real one. No wood! :) Mitch... thanks, gotcha. I think it will be a dually if we can afford it. We had never put 100,000 miles on any of our vehicles... until we got our '98 Lexus ES300. Bought it used when it was a couple of years old, at 22,000 miles. It now has 140,000 and is like the Energizer Bunny. It's still gorgeous, and it runs great. I had another question about the genset, but can't remember. :( Camper FAmily. Thanks for your advice, too. I have a little bit of a connection to Roush/RFR/etc... as in Ford... so I'm pretty stuck on staying with the Ford. ;) Best......Re: I have a TOW VEHICLE headache. So maybe it is time to cut your losses get yourself on a sound financial footing before going further in the hole. I was thinking the same thing....congrats on you having the guts to post it! I just bought this condo on wheels but I don't have any money LOL! You guys need to get a life. Read it again. it says our BUDGET. People who do budgets are on top of their life. You have no idea what our financial situation is, and it's none of your business. My husband and I have brains, and we use them. We've had 2 TT's and had our Class A for nine months. We are well aware of the expenses. Get off the subject. It's not up for debate as to whether of not we have money. You have no clue. If you want to run me off, you probably can. I have always been treated with great respect on this board, and I would like to see that continue. AND I HAVE THE GUTS TO SAY THAT. AngieRe: I have a TOW VEHICLE headache. We were told the diesels has a "life" of over 400,000 miles if taken care of. That makes it worth it. AngieRe: I have a TOW VEHICLE headache. No comment on our finances. Whoa. This is supposed to be an RV forum. We are happy and fine, thank you very much! :) :) :)Re: I have a TOW VEHICLE headache. Thanks, Mad Norsky. So, I think you're saying that if it has a Payload Capacity of 3100 lbs. plus(just to be safe), then we are probably good on the rest of the specs of the truck. Okay......... sooooo... the next thing is that even though we won't be OFTEN doing mountains/hilly terrain, we don't want it to struggle when we do. (Will be gate guarding, so will be stationery a lot of the time.) I'm getting it now that good power in the mountains with this setup means a diesel. *Probably a 350/3500 diesel truck... can be a dually or not. Did I pass? :) You are all so helpful. I'm assuming the single axle will be considerably cheaper. Oooops. One more question. About the cross winds. In our Class A, we have had instances where it is stormy, and we get blown around when we are near or between a couple of semi trucks. Did I get it that the dually pretty much eliminates the bulk of that behavior? We are excited (and somewhat tickled that they are DELIVERING our fifth wheel to our job site... and we have time to look for and purchase a truck). We'll be on the hunt for our truck next. Wish we could find one with the hitch work included! You guys didn't say anything about the hitch in regards to air bags, etc. Read some posts in this forum, and I THINK the consensus is that the air bags are not that important. AngRe: I have a TOW VEHICLE headache. donn0128 wrote: Have you thought of selling everything and getting more solvent? You're kidding, right? Ha.I have a TOW VEHICLE headache.:? Hi, guys. You always come through, so I hope I have enough info to make it easy for you. I'm so confused. Bailing from our 2006 Four Winds Hurricane 32R Class A. We bought a 5th wheel, and are now trying to figure out how to afford the LARGE truck we need to tow it.......... not to mention the hitchwork. Ugh. Yes, we do everything in backwards order. Camper, then truck. We drive a Titan LE CC 2WD SWB truck that we wanted to keep. I know, right? Not in this life. We have some equity in our truck, but know ABSOLUTELY nothing about hitch and tow requirements. We bought: 2012 Keystone Avalanche 345TG 11,335 Dry Shipping Weight 2,665 Carrying Capacity 2,050 Hitch 2 Axles 12'5" Height 37'11" Length 66 Fresh 50 Waste 85 Gray 60 LPG 12 Hot Water Heater 35,000 btu Heating Is there an easy answer... like: a 3/4 ton diesel truck or a one-ton diesel pickup or a one-ton diesel pickup dually? We are very limited in income for this vehicle; we won't skimp, but we DO want to know the MINIMUM we should purchase to assure that we can go in the mountains or wherever, without struggling. Of course, we know NOTHING about hitches for fifth wheels. Have read all that about air bags, too. Read about the Trailer Saver. Sounds awesome but expensive. I'll take any advice/opinions you can dish out. Oh, ha. For those of you who LOVE The Long, Long Trailer, 1953 film starring Lucy and Desi ... you can see the real ME in it. Not quite loading up ROCKS, but I can really fill up a camper... every nook and cranny. I am trying hard to reform and lighten up, but please consider that we MAY be heavyweight. We will also be Gate Guarding, so we are taking more supplies than normal. Tow Vehicle and Hitch Tips, PLEASE!!!!! Thanks.......... always, Ang :h
