Just got back from another trip out with the Sequoia. This was 300 miles to and from Broken Bow, OK. As expected, we had absolutely zero issues towing on any roads we were on. Interstate, 2 lane highway, back country roads, mountain roads, steep grades, we hit it all. The Sequoia pulls amazingly well. Zero uncontrollable sway incidents with semi trucks passing us or us passing semis. We kept our speed around 65 mph. The Platinum with it's air ride rear suspension continues to amaze me. I did have an issue with the trailer brakes where somehow both ground wires worked their way out of the connectors at the axles. Even with an estimated 8000 lbs trailer (7050 dry), the Sequoia was able to control it and stop just fine. I will say that having a properly dialed-in setup is an absolute must. From weight distribution, sway control, and brake controller gain. If you're setup, these things will tow! Details on the setup: 2016 Sequoia Platinum 2016 Gulf Stream Kingsport 288ISL (33') EAZ-Lift WDH, 1000 lbs spring bars, friction sway controlRe: New 30ft Trailer Towing ExperienceI've got well over a thousand miles towing our 33' camper with our Sequoia and a few thousand miles towing it with my Tundra. Comparing both, I can definitively say that I prefer the towing with the IRS Sequoia over the Tundra. It just handles the load so much better. The ride is easy and smooth (I run on the soft/comfort suspension setting). The only time that I felt the a very slight amount of sway on the Sequoia was when my black and grey tanks were nearly full, both of which sit at the very back of the TT and are a combined 101 gallons. It wasn't enough that I felt the vehicle wasn't in control, just that I took notice of it. After emptying the tanks, all was normal again.Re: Fridge on or off when stored?I have a kill switch for the house battery so it automatically turns the fridge and everything else off. I also prop the doors open with a towel. Keeps any mold from forming.Re: Suburban Water Heater Tripping House Breaker DutchmenSport wrote: If the breaker is tripping when you run the air conditioner, then either the breaker is NOT 20 amps, or else it's getting weak. Another thing... if you have anything running on that same circuit in the house, lights, appliances, devices) anything in the house on that same circuit, you could easily exceed the 20 amps. Make sure absolutely everything on that circuit is turned off in the garage. It's not tripping when it runs the A/C so I figured it's something to do with just the water heater. Old-Biscuit wrote: Tripping service breaker for garage outlet....... WH element is 1440W and can pull 12--12.5 amps Add in converter especially when charging batteries PLUS anything else on that garage outlet circuit??? But element would have to be energized (in heat mode) otherwise NO amps With CB immediately tripping......bad element. At least with a Suburban it is right there under burner tube in outside compartment vs on backside of WH tank like Atwoods Nothing else on the circuit. Since it trips as soon as I plug it in, I'm leaning towards a bad element. Toddupton wrote: Is the element bad in the water heater? Was it full of water while it was turned on or was it empty? Water heater was full when I plugged it in. MEXICOWANDERER wrote: MANY water heater coil failures short to ground. Disconnect wire from element. Turn breaker on. Ta Dah! Black & White diagnostic. I was reading about that. I may try that. Thanks! eHoefler wrote: Length of exstension cord and size with dramaticaly affect it. I was only running the 30 amp cord with an adapter on the end. j-d wrote: You "brought trailer home for the first time"... Is this a new trailer, new to you, or one you've had and used awhile? Really shouldn't trip a 20 with a less-than-15 load, even with converter running. Maybe if your House Battery was also low... Is your 20A breaker a GFCI Breaker? Maybe weak breaker... My gut is, failing element, but it's that, a guess. We have 15000 A/C and basically we can't run electric water heater in summer with its 30A service. I replaced the 1440W element with a 1000W and it lets me run it sometimes. I try to run it at off times. Like when campground voltage is high, and when we don't need to run something else. It's a new trailer to me but only a year old. The 20a breaker is not a GFCI. I'm going to take a look at the ground wires and see if I need to replace the element. Thanks so much for everyone's input!Suburban Water Heater Tripping House BreakerWhen I got my trailer home for the first time, I plugged it into my garage outlet (dedicated 20 amp) and it immediately tripped the breaker. After some troubleshooting, I figured out it was the water heater running in electric mode (switch outside turned on). When I turned it off, the breaker stopped tripping but I thought it was odd. Why would the water heater trip the breaker? I wasn't even running the A/C at the time but when I do run just my A/C, the breaker can take the load. Is the water heater really taking that much juice or do I have a bad electric element? I normally run it in propane mode when camping and turn on the water heater as well when I'm on 30 amp shore power. Not issues tripping the 30 amp breakers at the camp sites. Any ideas or is it common knowledge to not run water heaters in electric mode unless I'm on 30 amp power?Re: Hitch ball mount adjustmentThose hitches are designed as a drop/rise. You aren't doing anything wrong by adjusting it the way you did. What do you use as the "length of your travel trailer"?So I've noticed that a lot of manufacturers use their model number as an indication of length which is normally different than what's in the TT specifications of "length". Example: The Jayco Jay FLight 287bhsw shows a length of 33.5 ft. If you were asked "How long is your travel trailer?" or you were to state that "My travel trailer is ___ft" would you say 33 ft or 28 ft? https://www.jayco.com/products/travel-trailers/2017-jay-flight-slx/287bhsw/ And then you have dealers that list the same model at 28 feet: https://www.rvtrader.com/dealers/Pan-Pacific-RV-Centers-Morgan-Hill-3030202/listing/2017-Jayco-Jay-Flight-287BHSW-120357364 https://www.rvtrader.com/dealers/Valley-RV-Supercenter-2919884/listing/2017-Jayco-Jay-Flight-287BHSW-121428721 https://www.rvtrader.com/dealers/Richardson%27s-RV-2930748/listing/2017-Jayco-Jay-Flight-287BHSW-120114788Re: Newbie - Sewer hose recommendation?Just be sure you don't drag it along concrete. I quickly found out the hard way that it's a great way to end up with holes in your hoses! Best thing to do is get these supports which will help with dumping by steadily declining the hose and also keep it off the concrete. Anyone using gadgets for leveling?I've seen a few things on Amazon for leveling trailers wirelessly but they are in the hundreds of dollars. I also found an app called Stay Level on the iOS app store which looks very promising. It requires 2 iOS devices, one in the trailer and one outside. The one sitting on the floor in the trailer is used as the level which communicates with the device outside. The only issue is that they have to be on the same WiFi network. While you can setup one with a hotspot, this is obviously difficult in areas without cell service where hotspot isn't an option. Any other ideas for leveling other than a breaking out the 'ole spirit level?Re: Nashville CMA Fest 2017 (6/8 - 6/11)WOW, thank you for the GREAT advice! It will be my first time and my girlfriend's second (although she stayed in a nice hotel last time). Thanks again!!
