I asked her the same question, and she told me there are walkin dental clinics in malls so that might be an option too. And she told us she can email us our xrays so we will have them with us if we need them.Re: Dental careThanks again for all the help. We don't currently plan to go to Mexico but if we did wouldn't that require some special camper insurance?Re: Anchorage Motorhome RentalsWe rented years ago from ABC and have no complaints. It was our first rental and we were hooked. But one caveat. They only gave us three of those plush blankets, and since this was late May/early June it was not enough to keep us warm at night. We don't like to run the heater because it's too noisy to sleep. We rented several times after that in many locations and I always made sure there was going to be enough WARM bedding so we wouldn't freeze. If ABC still only supplies those plush blankets, you might want to bring sleeping bags or comforters or buy them locally.Re: Dental careI'm writing down all these names so if anyone else has any more, please advise. We do need a six-month cleaning and won't be able to come home for that. Thanks all.Re: Dental careAll good suggestions, and I thank you.Dental careWe're getting organized to spend a year traveling around the country and Canada in our Pleasureway. We will need to get our teeth cleaned at the six month point like we do at home. However, we don't live on the mainland and my Interent research hasn't turned up an answer. I was wondering if walk-in dental clinics are common. I turned up some places that said they took dental emergencies, but this won't be an emergency. I also don't want to became a new patient at some dentist's office because that will entail the usual spectrum of exams, xrays and the like. We just want to get our teeth cleaned because we have a regular dentist at home. We also won't be able to make an appointment say, three months in advance, like seems to be the norm at dentists offices because we don't know where we'll be. Any ideas?Re: RV Hire Companies that don't have pre-paid mileage?I found a great deal a couple of years ago through www.motorhomebookers.com. We rented from a Fraserway subsidiary called Four Seasons. It was their older camper. The deal included unlimited miles, insurance, linens, pots and pans etc. It was a class B Okanagan for something like $800 for close to three weeks. They no longer rent that camper, and that was a really fabulous deal, but there are other deals to be had, especially at Fraserway and Four Seasons, if you click around on the motorhomebookers website. Look for the Early Bookers Special. I have no complaints whatsoever about either motorhomebookers or Fraserway, and we like the B size so much we bought a 1995 Pleasureway a year ago. We've rented from several companies over the years, and I'd put this experience at a tie with Alpha campers in New Zealand.Re: My family thinks we've lost our minds Veebyes wrote: People are comfortable with what they are familiar with. They are more likely to be negative to what they know little about. Here in Bermuda many people either own timeshares or even own a second home in the US. In a population of 65,000 I know of only a couple others who own RVs. Neither of them do the traveling like we do. People talked to are either very envious or in awe that we strike out, with no reservations, to the great unknown beyond the last shopping center of a major city. They don't understand the concept of traveling without the security of having a rental vehicle with help a phone call away. The jaws drop when we talk about NPs rarely visited by Bermudians. Everyone has been to the Grand Canyon. Try explaining Dead Horse Point SP or Bryce Canyon NP. No clue. Try conveying the vastness of land across Kansas, Nebraska or the desert SW to people who cannot get any further away from the ocean than half a mile. It is all so different. That is why we do it. Maybe part of the RV appeal is being able to drive vast distances. I'm not sure how large Bermuda is, but St. John is 20 square miles. You can drive from one end to the most distant point in under an hour. You see the same scenery every drive. And except for the tourists, you see the same people when you leave the house. We love driving around the mainland, seeing new things and having new experiences, and are looking forward to doing more of it in our new-to-us campervan that we're keeping at relatives in the states.Re: Sold an RV-- best way to get paid?I've read this with interest because we are planning to buy an RV in the states next spring. We are in the Virgin Islands. Clearly, we cannot fly to where ever we buy it with a suitcase filled with cash. We have to go through Customs and Immigration on our way out of St. Thomas and there is a question on the customs form about carrying more than $10,000 in cash. I don't know what happens if you check yes, but I don't want to find out either. It's not likely we'll buy something sight unseen but we know people who have and it worked out fine. Our bank is here as well. From reading this it looks like a wire transfer is the best route. I have gotten paid by British companies to that same Virgin Islands bank via wire transfer so it looks like it's probably possible to wire transfer from here. However, if anyone sees any pitfalls to this I'd like to hear about them. Thanks.Re: A wild idea......Nothing is forever except dead. Plan A doesn't work out, move on to Plan B. Life isn't about the money but the adventure - at least for me and plenty of others.
