Now I can throw out my cumbersome wireless hotspot for this. Thanks!Re: Replace Toilet with Composting for FT use Roy&Lynne wrote: I think what your suggesting is a great idea. Composting toilets start at about 1000 bucks and up to about 2500 but they do have a solar powdered vent that you can get for about 200 dollars. Most solar systems cost about the same so if I had an extra 2000, I think I would invest in solar first and then the composting toilet. A composting toilet only saves a bit of water and you would still have to deal with washing dishes and showers etc. Good point about the solar. I really want to do it but its really confusing. I think I need to actually get the RV and play around with the normal plugging in and using the battery as before I can fully comprehend it all. I get the panels and batteries, but once I start reading about sine, mppt, watts etc I am lost.Re: Running A/C on solar. You are all talking about increasing batteries and solar. Try decreasing the AC unit requirements. Try this: http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Cheap-amp-Small-Air-conditioner/ Or one of these if its dry heat: http://www.amazon.com/SPT-SF-608R-Portable-Evaporative-Cooler/dp/B000OKHY2S I mean its definitely not the same but both should make it bearable like when trying to go to sleep or something.Re: Replace Toilet with Composting for FT use holstein13 wrote: Sailor man, if you are 28 years old, go for it. You aren't supposed to put this much thought into anything at your age. We need pioneers like you to try these things out so that us older, more thoughtful folks can take advantage of your experiences. Now ask us about kerosene lamps, carburators, carrier pigeons, etc. and we'll be full of practical advice. ;-) Please tell me more about carrier pigeons.Re: Replace Toilet with Composting for FT use buta4 wrote: From what I've seen on ads, comments, etc., composting toilets tend to not work well in cooler weather, like winter? Maybe they've improved upon this lately. IMHO I hate cold weather and prefer things to be about 80 degrees so I will be mostly south, so I don't see it as an issue for me. Good to know.Re: Replace Toilet with Composting for FT use halfwright wrote: If you are going to long term boondock, I do not think composting toilets would be the best choice due to electricity consumption. Good point. I am hoping to add solar at some point but right out the gate probably not. Hmm... Will need to think about this aspect further.Re: How to tow a small sailboat and an RV on a pickup truck midnightsadie wrote: seen a truck today with a boat on a ladder rack. the ladder rack run clear to the front of the trucks hood . Awesome! So far this seems like the best solution although a pain to get up there but doable for sure.Re: Replace Toilet with Composting for FT useI saw those but I was hoping for more "non media" information. All makes sense and they liked them but to hear from someone completely different who isn't making money on their youtube you know?Re: How to tow a small sailboat and an RV on a pickup truckAlso open to a sunfish instead of the JY15 but not preferred. The specs on that are as follows: 13' 9" length 4' 1" wide 120 lbs So substantially smaller. How to tow a small sailboat and an RV on a pickup truckSo I have a Ford F-150, I am in the market for an RV right now and have not decided on Fifth wheel or Travel trailer. Either way I am looking at ball park 27'. Now I want to bring a small sailboat with me, its a JY15. The specs on the sailboat are as follows: 15' long 5' 10" wide 3' tall Weight of the hull is 275 lbs and the sails and mast and stuff can be stored in the truck and/or rv. Is it possible to get this around with me? Suggest 5th wheel or TT or what? They make trailers for these boats but I am thinking there might be a way to put it in the truck bed and have a TT.
