Thanks, everyone, for the posts. Very much appreciated. For now just getting the hitch. Getting a B&W Puck Companion. Hard to find. No one had one locally or could even find one in their network. RV Dealer getting one from one of their stores in TX. Should be here in time for the Demo mid Apr when we pick up the Eagle. Still looking at tool boxes and covers. Just picked up the new TV yesterday -- 2021 RAM 3500 Big Horn Crew Cab Long Box, Dually. Need advice on getting it ready for the Fiver (2021 Jayco Eagle 336 FBOX -- Dry Pin 2,215 lbs. GRWR 13,750 lbs.) Hitch -- Hearing B&W a lot. TV has the factory prep four puck system. Toolbox -- TV has the 50 gal fuel tank so I'm not really interested in the Transfer Flow type combo fuel and tool box. Just a locking toolbox. Rolling Cover -- Heard from another truck owner that he liked the Revolver X4. Also, the RAM had 19 miles on it when I bought it yesterday. Truck dealer said no break in needed before towing. (HUH??) Was reading the owner's manual last night and p. 241 says, "Do not tow a trailer at all during the first 500 miles" to avoid damage. Picking up Fiver mid April, so I'm driving the RAM 40+ miles a day to get to the 500. Appreciated all the advice and input when I had posted about advice for TV a couple of weeks ago. Thanks, again, everyone for the input. Saw comments relating to cost and affordability. Understand. We are not rich but have been sacrificing for many years with budgeting, going without, working hard, and saving all we can in order to have this dream happen once I retired (8/20.) I realize trucks are not cheap now, but my life clock keeps ticking. We put together a plan and both the truck we ended up with (spoiler alert) and fiver are within our budget. Well, today we did the go see in person. We sat in a Limited (top of the line at $88k) first -- kind of like eating Filet mignon first and then trying a burger.) Saw the Big Horn at another dealership and the interior with the upgrade packages were fine with us. Took for a test drive and loved it. It had 99% of what we wanted so we did the deal! $20k+/- under the Limited. Picking it up later this week. Will post picts and change my sig in the near future! Thanks, again, everyone. Thanks, everyone, for the replies. Sorry for the 3.42 error in gears. It's the 3.73 that comes standard. My bad. Thinking I'm going with the HO motor/Aisin Tranny and 3.73 gears. If we were to load up the truck and fiver to their respective payloads/cargo carrying limits, we'd be at 25k GCW, well under the 33+k GCWR listed for the combo. Everyone: Thank you all so much for your responses! Super helpful! Due to price, likely going with 2021 RAM Bighorn with some add ons. Mid $60's. Can't see going $10-$20k more for the Limited or Laramie. Since my current TV will no longer be a teenager this year, I think I'll be fine with what's in the Bighorn. To answer a few questions that came up: Diesel -- Yes going with that (was in original post) Fuel Tank -- It's my understanding that RAM standard tank size is 31-32 gallons. It's a $295 option to go with the 50 gal. Seems like it's about half and half what out there. I'm looking more for convenience (stretching and walking at a rest area instead of fuel stop) and driving past higher fuel prices. I've only seen 6 speed tranny in the RAMs I've come across. Current TV has 4 speed, so the 6 will seem nice. Further Questions: Seems like the 4.10 gears get you 30k towing while the 3.42 seems to be at 24k, more than enough for us. It's been awhile since I have been on the boards. Looking to move from the current lashup ('02 Suburban 2500 LT, 8.1l / '05 Jayco Eagle 29 BHS TT) to a Fiver and Truck. Settled on a Jayco Eagle Fiver 336FBOK Unloaded Vehicle Weight (lbs) 11,745 Dry Pin Weight (lbs) 2,215 GRVW (lbs) 13,750 Total Exterior Length 39' 8" Exterior Travel Length (Pin box to bumper) 38' 9" Going with a 3500 Diesel, Club Cab. Questions: 1. Long Bed or Short (6'4")? 2. If short bed, sliding hitch -- Manual or automatic? 3. DRW or SRW? 3. Minimum Payload (The range has been 4,200 - 5,500 in my searching, only duallies so far) 4. Minimum Towing Capacity? (Range has been 23k - 30k, so I'm OK there so far) 5. Fuel Tank / In-Bed Aux Fuel. So far it's been 31 or 50 on the truck. Think I'll be OK with 50 and not have to add an In-Bed Aux Fuel.) Regarding slider hitch - RV Dealer told me most ppl never use it. (I assume they are not backing up at sharp angles and/or have tapered front on their fiver?) This will be the biggest (and likely last) RV as we are both now retired and plan to do extensive travelling and will be in the Rockies and other high elevations. Angel Lake, NV Not my picts here, but we always camped here on our cross-country tent camping trips to Oregon to see both sets of grandparents. Sun would "set" over that half glacier in mid afternoon giving us shade in the CG and causing it to cool down nicely for the evening, esp. being at 8,000 ft. Great sleeping weather - often woke up cold the next morning. Last time here was 1977. It's on the list for the RV cross-country trip in a year or so. Not sure how far up we can pull TT. We've camped with three cats. First one, God rest his soul, loved it. Second one we took camping hated it -- Would pant like a dog in the car and meow all night and never settle down. Third one we now take is a one year old who absolutely loves camping. All are indoor cats and we put them in pet carrier when transporting them to/from house/TV/trailer. It really depends on temperament of cat. If we ever do full time, I'm sure we'll have a cat with us.241Views0likes0Comments
