On our dogs' tags in place of their names I have REWARD4RETURN printed. In the event one of them should become lost, hopefully the finder would be more motivated to make the effort to contact me than drop him/her off at animal control, keep my dog themselves, or even just walk away all together. The Civil War battlefields at Gettysburg and Manassas and the Mt Desert Island/Bar Harbor, Maine area is extremely dog friendly(personal experience). Many sites around Cape Cod welcome them as well. With a little research you can find a lot of places of historic interest to visit with your dog/s.
