We were at Myrtle Beach, and it's always windy there, so I had put the tie downs on that we had used with last trailers regular awning. It started to pull the screws out of the side of trailer at each end of the fabric. ChrisRe: New York Bug ReportI'm about an hour away and we have had a very dry year so far and the mosquitoes are less than they have been in awhile. Some lawns are turning brown and that usually doesn't happen until late August. ChrisRe: Outside kitchen door questionIf you are talking about where the lift strut meets the door you can try a repair plate that spreads the weight across a bigger area. I used them because the screws stripped out of my door, but it would work on that. Look them up on Camping World, Catalog Item # 66724. Hope this helps. What would you guess the weight of the hitch to be? Think it's comparable to a Reese 15K slider assembly? Thanks, Chris The base is noticeably lighter than the previous Companion Hitch I used. I separate the base from the hitch head when installing and they are about 75lbs each. Not to bad for one person to lift. Rich Thanks for the info, that helps. Thanks, ChrisRe: Well, that went as expectedI could drop a quarter on my driveway and put a bumper pull tire on it usually in one shot, nice to see I'm not the only who has trouble backing a 5th wheel. I think part of my issue is a crew cab long bed make adjustments quite a task. I'm also surprised to hear I do the hard side backing all the time. I live on a busy highway and have to back in on the passenger side, sometimes I have people that just can't give me a minute to get in the driveway and cut around me. Last summer a guy was waiting while I was having a tough time getting in, I waved him by but he said "No I have to see you finish this, everyone else can wait" thinking was probably a camper too. ChrisRe: Olive oil?Just throwing out an alternative option, we think the best hash browns are from Waffle House, they are a rehydrated potato cooked with a liquid butter substitute. We get both from a restaurant supply house, the liquid butter brand is Whirl, we cook everything at camp with it and also use it to make chicken wing sauce. ChrisRe: Keystone Outback vs Kestone Laredo & CougarWe traded in a 2003 Cedar Creek on a 2012 Laredo, quality of our Laredo is good, but you can tell it is only a mid level unit. We could have gotten a Cougar, but for us the storage compartment on the Laredo was almost twice the size of the Cougar and comparable to the one we had on the Cedar Creek. We only got out twice last fall after getting it and still need to get used to it. The best thing is the level up and I don't think they put them on the current Laredo. Good luck with your search, ChrisRe: Not a tire rant.....I have to chime in on this one, I put Goodyear Marathons on my previous trailer and got 4 years out of them with no problems. I just traded that one in and will need to replace the Towmax that came on my 2012 Laredo, I was planning on using the Goodyear tires on that one as well. I also bought the first set at Sam's, they ordered them for me and had them there in a couple of days. I was disappointed when I saw China on the sides of the tires, and until I joined some forums didn't know I was in the wrong towing at up to 75 mph for periods of time. Perhaps it was luck I never had a problem or I wasn't running close to the weight limits of the tires, I'm hoping to have similar results if I use them again. There is stuff like a spare water pump, a spare landing leg, trailer brake drums & brake plates, salvaged bits & pieces from a previous grill, all matter of odds & ends that might have a use someday. Anyone else find that the used widget you were holding onto for years suddenly has a purpose a week after tossing it out? Just hoping its not only me that goes through that Chris
