All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Tepic bypass via San BlasThat road has been pretty variable over the years. Usually after a spell of dry weather they do some maintenance on the potholes. I have been through there when it was pretty rough, but still very passable at the right speeds, as the potholes are usually down on the lower elevations. Be nice if somebody has just come through and can give you a report. Our rig is a 5th wheel and we're 35 feet overall. RYVRe: Libre / Free road Nogales to Mazatlan. The above-mentioned topes can be "interesting", but we've found that in the towns the double-parkers and hitting a market day can make things nearly impassable, depending on your size. We're towing a 25 foot 5th wheel, so not big in comparison to some rigs. RYVRe: Nogales Mariposa Crossing!Moisheh - we crossed in early spring last year coming north after recovering our trailer, then again this spring returning home again. Both times we didn't take the bus lane and we just had to pull into the open area after the booths and a very friendly agent came out of the building there and we had a nice discussion about Mexico and retirement before being told we were free to go. There is lots of parking area there. RYVRe: Nogales Mariposa Crossing! We've never used the bus lane. We have, for many years, just carried on with the cars and usually we have to pull through to the parking lot and wait for an agent. They have always been friendly and accommodating. RYVRe: Insurance warningI think Qualitas should be a good choice - no occasion yet (and don't want one !)to test them on a total loss, but that's where we went this last trip. I also looked up "comparables" online and printed a bunch of them out. I'll PM you our number - getting together sounds good - we have some cold ones ! RYVRe: Insurance warningM.R.-We live in Canada and travelling to Mexico, hiring a lawyer, and after spending MANY pesos, ending up in a courtroom where the insurance company owns the judge did not seem that prudent a decision, considering that the offer could have been reduced if not accepted. RYV - I think this is all I have to say on the subject, I don't need the stress to return ! Insure with whomever you like, we won't touch HDI again with a 10- foot pole.Re: Insurance warningM.R. - We hadn't got down to any kind of reasonable discourse on the offer. It was out of line, which was VERY obvious. There is no way we could have replaced it and the equipment for what was offered. I'm not talking about a $1000 dollar difference. We weren't going to buy the replacement in Texas - our address is in Canada, so we expected less than what it would cost here, but not what they offered. We've dealt with insurance companies before and we know they are a bunch of thieving a++holes, but this was beyond that. As I said, making a "take it or leave it" offer and ceasing to communicate is not a normal business practice with anyone we would deal with again ! RYVRe: Insurance warningPaul - we were insured with HDI and I don't know how they would be with an accident claim, but on a total loss, they were awful and I would not recommend them to anybody ! We also got the agent- Mexadventure - involved, but during what we thought was negotiation, they made us a "final offer" and stopped communicating - both parties. They were very short on the truck evaluation and told us that the equipment ($3500 ) was included in that too-low amount. Now I know evaluations can vary quite a bit, but I found all sorts of comparables in the %20,000 + range, where they were starting at 13,000 - apparently trucks are a lot cheaper in Texas, where they got their "comparables" from. Cutting off communication with someone who is being reasonable is not something that should happen in a business transaction and it certainly wouldn't encourage anyone to deal with them again. -RYVRe: Turning in your FMMWe turn ours in at Nogales and I hand the agent our passports and they always get stamped. Different agents ? RYVRe: OutSTANDING photography . . .We overnighted in Colima last year in January (hotel) and in the morning as we headed east, there was a lenticular cloud over this same mountain. RYV
