I used to feel pretty good about our knowledge of good quality rigs in the middle range of price and size. But now there are many new names, business bought out by others, etc and I'm not as comfortable. Fit and finish is visible, structural - you have to rely on their reputation of most. This is where new names/brands concern me. I remember many of the horror stories of Lippert Frames issues. Don't know if they exist now or not. RV Salesmen have not changed :) Open Range - we lost our local Open Range Dealer - Snyder's RV in Salem Va - they changed brands carried. Not sure why. We visited a few days back and the office door was locked but service was open. They seem to be focused on Motor Homes. Never saw a salesman so we left. Cedar Creek/SilverBack have always been high on our list. We will revisit. The 29RE could be perfect. The Wildcat still draws our attention. The Outback posted by DS is very much what we want. I'm not in favor of the Island Kitchen but mama is (gotta keep her happy). Minor changes we would like the bed to be part of the slide out for a little added space. We need to decide what is most important in floor plan and I want to keep the weight and length down. 2hams - who is your dealer? Grand Designs looks great. This is a new name to use - who are they? What frames do they use? Couple more questions. - Any online price sheets for options - Anyone use an RV Wholesaler Anyone have experience with these RV supply locations? - Bill Plemmons RV World, Rural Hall 6725 University Pkwy., Rural Hall, NC 27045, US (69.3 miles) - Sonnys Camp N Travel of Concord, NC 304 Executive Park Drive, Concord, NC 28025, US (124.4 miles) - Bill Plemmons RV World, Raleigh 4208 New Bern Ave., Raleigh, NC 27610, US (126.4 miles)Opinions wanted - 5th wheels suggestionsPosting in 5th wheels as this is where we have the most interest. Been away from this forum and Rving for about a year or so. We are looking at some part time travel and need a new 5th wheel or TT. We were impressed with Heartland and Cedar Creek quality and looked pretty seriously at a couple of floor plans. Our assessment at the time for quality was Heartland, Forest River and Jayco for the price range we are interested. We are considering 28-30 foot rear living 5th wheel and might consider a TT with the right floor plan. We like the Rear living, center kitchen and front bedroom so you don't have to climb over guests to make morning coffee. I've always felt most traffic during the day is to the kitchen & bathroom :) While looking we are seeing new names like Rockwood, ElkRidge and other new names to us. Who is building good quality rigs these days? Reputable dealers within 200 miles of the Roanoke Va? Experience with RV Outlet in Ringgold Va? Some considerations: Elk Ridge Rockwood Cougar Wildcat Coachman Suggestions?Re: Help Please? Power cord trips GFI Francesca Knowles wrote: There's nothing in the O.P.'s threadstarter that indicates a GFI's involved... It was stated "they tripped the outlet". As doughere stated, outlets don't trip due to overload - only short circuits. doughere provided the best information. If it pops/trips instantly it is more likely a short rather than an overload. Overloads take a bit of time depending on the magnitude of the overload to heat the thermal trip elements. GFI is instantaneous. To the OP: You are obviously using a conventional 15/20 amp extension cord for the last connection to the GFI. Are you using a 3 wire and are all the prongs are present and working? Yes it is possible when the "automatic" cord was replaced it might have been installed/wired incorrectly and causing the trip of the GFI.Re: Check This Out.........It's a shame they don't have a way to measure the amount of fuel you put into your vehicle over it's life - a meter on the fill hole for fuel. It would be so simple to get your average mileage if they did.Re: Larger font sizesCtrl + increase Ctrl - decrease Ctrl 0 reset to default Also if using Firefox Select View/Zoom and Text only. This will increase only the text - not images. Makes for easier reading keeping everything on the page visible.Re: Campground WiFi BigBoy11 wrote: Hmmmm? I thought one of the main points of camping was to get away from things like Wifi! This is true but there are many who use the internet for mapping their next stop, finding attractions or restaurants near by, posting problems looking for solutions on forums like this and general communications llike email. Me personally an not big on texting but that is an alternative.Re: 2 20 amp to 50 amp dogbone???Don't try it! Don't even think about trying to make a box that will combine 2 20 amp plugs into 1 50 amp receptacle. It is too likely (I'd bet big money) that the 2 20 amp connectors (a duplex outlet) are wired from the same wires from the distribution panel meaning you may only have 20 amps total available from a duplex outlet due to the feeding circuit breaker. Most duplex outlets come from the factory with the lines of the top and bottom outlet connected together and the neutral of both top and bottom outlet tied together.Re: 50 Amp ServiceThink of it this way. What is the standard motor on a car? A small car may likely have a standard 4 cylinder motor with a 6 cylinder option. A medium car may likely have a standard 6 cylinder motor with an 8 cylinder option. A large car or truck will likely have a standard 8 cylinder motor and may not offer anything else. The point is "Standard" will be dictated by the size of the rig. Older rigs (might be what you are viewing) may have not needed more than 30 amps. 50 amp service (to me) didn't become popular until the early/mid 1990's. There are reasons for offering 30 and 50 amp service. You should focus on getting the rig you want and "assume" it is wired appropriately for the need. If you plan to modify the rig by adding a 2nd A/C unit there are other options than jumping to a 50 amp service that are more economical.Re: Task bar - Icons flickering when online monkey44 wrote: Can you refresh my memory about how to 'reload video drivers" ... is that from the original install disc, or online? Step x step would help ... If you still want to know... I am on Windows Vista but I don't think it matters. I just went thru the process to create this step-by-step. This will work to update or refresh - either one - just make the appropriate selection. === Right click My Computer Select Manage Select Device Manager (this will display a list of all devices on/connected to your PC) Double click Display Adapters Hilight then right click your graphic driver chipset Select Update Driver Software (if you select Properties/Driver Tab - you will see options to update the existing drivers) You will be provided with 2 options: - Search automatically for updated driver software - Browse my computer for driver software I always select Search my computer first. The reason is if you perform Windows updates on a regular basis you may get the latest drivers from Microsoft and more likely compatible with your Operating System. If it indicates Your drivers are up to date - you can go ahead and search the internet also. It may not be necessary. I had to do this with my Network Adapter - used the first choice - searching my PC - found the driver - updated and fixed my problem. I could not get to the internet without a network plugin chip installed. Now it works fine. ===
