All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Nogales border northbound (out) interesting tidbitFor seven years , we travel, in the States , with its own fiver. We are, very often, entered, the United States, from Mexico or Canada. I have very early learned, never make a discussion with a US Border - Officer and only answer to his questions . At the Border Line , they have the absolute power and siting, right next to the " Lord" ... We are sure we mostly just explain legal things but we never got lucky, the officer found, always foods that were illegal. Last time was our refrigerator was empty , but he found an avocado forgotten, but with the seed , which is absolutely illegal. Well, I'm sure I 'll never " No" or " Yes " to say if the agent ask me again , The answer will be : "I do not know! " O.K. they just do the work, but there are different personalitys. Eventually, you'll get frustrated officer to meet after you cross the demarcation line , you will feel like screwed up.... Because he / she has done his job accurately according to established rules . An examples that we saw coming across the border from Canada into the United States from Alaska. The refrigerator was filled with halibut and salmon, caught with a fishing license in Alaska. The Border - Office let us go only after we showed the CC Control Bill, the Agent, would, show our license in Alaska. Because we would have to catch the fish illegally in Alaska. At this point, we feel really, screwed.Re: Where to camp Saltillo?I didn't find a good place in Saltillo. I use, a Parador/PEMEX5208 on the Junction Mex40 Saltillo - 57D (Steet View 25.59428,-100.880757) or from Saltillo, about 80 mi, south on the 57D, Parador/PEMEX7537 (Street View 24.495301,-100.295715)Re: Bringing alcohol in RV to Mex.This is not true... looking at Website U.S. Customs and Border Protection.. Generally, one liter of alcohol per person may be entered into the U.S. duty-free by travelers who are 21 or older, although travelers coming from the U.S. Virgin Islands or other Caribbean countries are entitled to more. Additional quantities may be entered, although they will be subject to duty and Federal excise taxes, which will be assessed and collected at the port of entry.Re: Bringing alcohol in RV to Mex.I never had a problem to bring alcohol into Mexico, but always back to the States... the US Customs, in TX is watching you! You have to pay Tax for every bottle, if is over 1 Liter of alcohol...Re: Drinking water?I never drink water, in a foreign country, except at home in Munich, Germany, what I know. I always buy bottle water, for cooking, I use 5 gal bottle, who you can refill in many refill- station about 20 Pesos in Mexico. For drink, I buy, drinking bottle water from supermarket.. horrible, I drink my coffee with a taste of chlorine... I don't trust RV Water filters, most company use cheap filters... I never was going sick in any country, round the world. In my US Trailer or German RV, the Water is use only for shower and wash the dishes.Re: streets&trips-MexicoI prefer a PC Navigation - Solution like S&T, DeLorme Street Atlas (very good the map overlays) on a CarPC, like a notebook, but special built using in Car/RV, with a GPS Antenna. This give me the same working flow, as I have with paper maps. I can use it to make Navigation, but also to plan a route. I also use a garmin NUVI 765TC with the latest North America Map include Mexico. If you don't use the old Garmin Mapsource or the Base camp on a PC to download your route in the Nuvi, it is a Pain, to operate with a Route, include certain VIA Waipoints. On S&T or Street Atlas the Route is done, by easy Mouseklicks, on the screen. The only different is S&T doesn’t recalculate the new route in case a detour. The Maps, Garmin and S&T in Mexico, shows about ½ Year to late, the new built road, but it works perfect to will find your target. You have in all systems the opportunity to load your custom specified POI’s like, Campgrounds, Save Pexmex for overnight.... Since I travel in North America (Mexico, Canada, Alaska) , at the moment about 180000 mile, the S&T, DeLorme and Garmin always was perfect for my traveling.Re: Intl drivers licenseNormally all foreign country accept the foreign driver license. But some have the rule, to accept, only approved language translation of the driver license. This is done with a International Driver license. As in Examples, the USA will accept the German DL, except Georgia, they don't do.. Foreign drivers have to show your DL with a proved Intl. DL. Maybe you never run in Trouble in Mexico, with only your foreign DL, but I know some Canadians, and me, was ask by the police, for a Intl. Driver Licence. Otherwise you have to pay a fine.Re: Intl drivers licenseThere is no a Problem in mexiko. We in germany can operate with our regularly B driver license only 7700 lbs, but this limit is not shown in the int. driver license. The int. driver license is is only valid in connection with regular driver license. I had never a problem with police in Mexico, since I show only the intl. driver license... I also have a valid TX driver license, but in some reason it is better I show only the intl. driver license...Re: Dash Cam for Mexico & USAI drove many times, from McAllen, Reynosa down to CD Victoria, using the Hwy Mex 97 and had never a problem. But this Video of a dash cam is a mean reason to have one... Highway Robbery in Mexico, by Bill Bell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eZMvS0uKK4&featur
