The lack of a irritating odor is extremely important to the food processing industry and this is what they use. It is called Star San and is extremely inexpensive to use. It may not be as cheap as bleach but there is no lingering chlorine smell either. I used it for years in my fresh water tank without a problem even though my wife refused to drink water from the tap. I think you can get Star San on Amazon.Nursing Homes near Algadones MexicoThankfully I don't need a nursing home myself but my 85 year old neighbor recently suffered a stroke and needs assisted living care. Like most retirees, he has limited financial resources...and those resources will be drained before he qualifies for welfare assistance. So my question revolves around the issue of assisted living facilities or nursing homes in Mexico near the Arizona border. I am aware of American style facilities in Baja, Lake Chapala, San Miguel Allende, etc but am at a loss when it comes to Algadones, Nogales, etc. As I understand it, American style nursing home costs in Mexico are 60-75% less than in the U.S. I searched Google but could not come up with such homes on the AZ/MX border. Are there any snowbirds that are familiar with such facilities? I see questions about Dentists in MX so hopefully someone will have an answer regarding nursing homes. Thanks for any information.Re: First winter in Yuma "Water quality"?Since you are from the Eugene OR area, you are extremely lucky to have some of the purest, cleanest, best tasting water in the U.S. You will be spoiled no matter where you go RVing because the water will NOT match the quality you have now. I was originally from Olympia WA and had my own well water for 30 years and did not have chlorine, salts, purifiers, etc added to my water supply...so I always griped about the taste of the local water when we were rving...and I griped the loudest in AZ. Even the RO water tasted off to me. But that is the price you pay when you travel. I just learned to live with it...and you will too. Try the previous suggestions because they all work. And even if the quality of the water is not up to what you are used to, just go with the flow and enjoy the ride.Re: Renting out an RV for profit?Hi Lady. Before you pursue renting out a RV, call an insurance company to see how much it would cost to insure a RV for personal use and then how much it would cost to insure a RV for rental purposes. I had entertained the idea of renting out my RV several years ago and found that my personal use RV insurance would cover damages, liability, etc ONLY if I or my wife were driving it. The RV would also be covered if someone else was driving ONLY if I or my wife were present in the RV when the accident occurred. It WOULD NOT be covered in any other circumstance. There went my idea of renting out my RV and not telling the insurance company to keep the lower rate. I would never think of owning a RV without adequate insurance...both for your protection and the other party.Re: New RVerCongrats on your new Class C. We were in the same situation 12 years ago and this is what I would do differently now. First, there is no problem free new RV--there WILL be issues that need to be resolved. So for your initial trip(s) I would not take an ambitious journey. I would take a shorter trip(s) near you to get acquainted with your C and to be able to get back to your dealer should problems arise. Also, I would take the RV out in the RAIN to check for leaks. Don't wait until you're ready to take a long trip only to find that your roof leaks. Since your RV will be ready in Sept, take a short trip up the coast in October where you should encounter rain showers. As to where you should go on your first long trips: ANYWHERE! Just go--there aren't really any bad places to go...and if there are, just get back in your RV and go someplace else. Everyone tells you about their favorite places and why you should go there. I would listen to RVers who tell you where to avoid (mosquitos, weather, costs, crowds, etc). Happy Travels.Re: Yuma,AzWhy would anyone recommend using a family member's military status to procure a RV site at a military RV campground? These CGs are typically reserved for active duty and retired members and staying at such a CG takes away a site from those that are entitled to it. I am a veteran but am not entitled to stay at a military CG and would never consider using anyone else's name merely to stay at a convenient CG.Re: Electrical damage to 5th wheel at CampgroundSuggest leaving a review in RVParksReview so other RVers don't get taken by this RV Park.Re: Need advice for brand new RVersWe purchased a 2005 Forest River Lexington 5 years ago while living in Washington which makes it about the same age as the one you are looking at. There are a lot of positives about the Lex. However, there are some negatives; they included water leakage at the rubber seals around the slides. Be careful and check at the bottom of the slides for signs of water damage. There was also leakage at the joint where the cabover joined the chassis. I found water in the fiberglass canopy only after removing the entertainment system and looking into the cabover. Since you probably don't have a overhead bed in the Lex, any leaks will be difficult to spot. One way to check is to inspect the cabover from the outside and look to see if the cabover has pulled away from the chassis and exposed a crack in the seal. I sealed the crack and used a sponge to remove the pool of water. I also drilled a small hole in the cabover so any future water leaks will be drained out. Also, inspect the awnings very carefully. Being in western Canada, there is a chance that the awning may have become mildewed and rotten in the past 9 years. If so, negotiate that in your offer. For some reason the Lex seems to use the cheapest awnings made. I replaced mine with awnings made by a manufacturer in Vancouver WA...not Vancouver BC. Like any other RV made, you will encounter mechanical issues along the way. I had the fuel pump replaced; a slide motor replaced, grey water valve replaced, etc. This can happen to ANY motorhome so don't blame Forest River. You might want to log onto the Forest River Lexington website for more information pertinent to this particular RV before you buy. Whatever you decide, good luck.Re: Parking a travel trailer. My wife and I made the Hwy 101 drive many times in the past 15 years since we lived in WA and drove to the OR coast often. If you are leaving in 7 days you are going at one of the most popular RV travel times on the coast. And if you are trying to find a "public parking lot" that allows unattended trailer parking while you go "cruising" then I think you are out of luck. When we drove Hwy 101 we looked for casinos that allowed RV parking and parked there and then cruised around. Casinos are not public parking lots so you should ask their security if you can leave your TT for a few hours. We did and never had a problem. There are going to be some areas that don't have casinos but the more populous locations will have a casino nearby. If you do follow my advice, I hope neither you nor your partner like to gamble because it could wind up costing more than a private RV campground. Good Luck in your travels.Re: What was your first RV noob disaster (or near disaster)? The Arrivals area at the Anchorage AK airport has a height limit of 11'. Our Class C is 11' 6" in height. My wife, who was driving to pick up a friend, has no concept of height, weight, width, etc and merrily drove into the Arrivals area until, at the last second...no more than 6' from the barrier...I yelled out to stop. It took several minutes to backup (what with all the cars behind us) and take an offramp with no height restriction. It would have been a very expensive mishap. The problem is I don't think my wife learned from the experience.
