We don’t plan on doing much boondocking any more. We did lots with the camper and kind of got it out of our system. We see using the trailer as a “home base” to be easily left at the campground while exploring nearby, something we didn’t do very much when we were hauling the camper. We sleep on a king sized bed at home and really appreciate our space, thus the queen bed requirement. If we could find a trailer with a king bed, that would be ideal. I think we would do more winter camping if we could find a well insulated unit. I hope we are not setting our sights too high.Switching to a TTAfter 14 years with the pickup camper we have decided to switch to a travel trailer. We would like to find a lightly used 2000-2010ish, 20-22 foot four season, water tight travel trailer. We live in the Pacific Northwest and rain is common, so a unit that will shed water as well as our Northern Lite fiberglass camper did is important. We are seeking any suggestions from experienced travel trailer owners for brand names to consider. Oh, and a full sized queen bed is the smallest we can get by with. As always, thanks for taking your time to reply.Re: Ongoing Onan 2500 Generator FrustrationI had the same problem with an Onan Camp Power 2500. I found that the start/stop switch on the generator would not stay in the run position. The generator would start with the remote start switch but, unless I wedged the switch on the generator to the run position, it would quit as soon as I let go of the remote start.Re: Standing water in Northern Lite battery compartmentI have been working through controlling the entry of rain and wash water to the compartments, since I had several leaking entry points. Camping World sells an adhesive backed white vinyl gutter that I inverted and use as a small awning over the vent area. It works well for the battery compartments and the propane compartment, but is too small for the generator compartment, if you have the same expanded metal mesh there. Along with the vinyl "awning", I replaced the door gasket with closed cell adhesive backed weatherstrip. That job may have to be done every couple of years or so because if it deteriorates, the doors WILL leak. Inside of the compartments, I ran a thick bead of the best silicone sealer that I could find around the inside of the bottom of the door frame where it meets the plastic box portion. That is to keep any water that gets into the compartment, in the compartment, and not leaking further into the camper. And, as a last line of defense, I put a rolled up rag just inside the door laying on the bottom of the compartment. That way, if water does somehow still get into the box, the rag will be wet and I can wring it out and then check for the cause.Re: Road trip suggestions wanted..OregonOregon??? Nothing to see here, folks. Move along, move along. :WRe: Charging the camper batteries with the truck motorThanks for all of your replies. I now feel even dumber than before and that was quite a hurdle. Some of these comments are just way over my comprehension level, so I don't know if my question has been answered, or not. I should probably restate my original query. As I am now configured, I take power from the combined battery output tap and send it to a solenoid and on to the camper through a 10ga. stranded wire. It seems to me that the voltage regulator is limiting the output to the camper batteries when I am driving because it senses that the truck batteries are fully charged. I have a Trimetric battery monitor installed and output to the camper batteries with the truck running is only in the 5-8 amp range. It seems like I should be able to get more out of the alternators than that. In simple English, is there a way around this without having to rewire everything? In my owners manual, it briefly references an option for what it calls an alternate battery and shows an image of a connection that is supposed to be located on the firewall near the rear battery in the truck engine compartment. I have briefly looked for that connector and can't find it.Charging the camper batteries with the truck motorI have not been able to get a good charge to the camper house batteries using the truck alternator. I have the dual 105 amp alternator option on my 2004 Duramax for total of 210 amps of potential output. It seems like the regulator is sensing that the truck batteries are charged and it reduces the current output so that the camper batteries only get a trickle. Has anybody else found a way to get around this problem and allow the camper batteries to get a full charge from the alternators while driving?Re: Question about Newer Northern-Lite Basement ModelsMan, I should stop by the next time I'm down your way. I've still got your phone number and I'm still working on my leak problems. Most of them seem to come from the gaskets around the access doors getting too old and not sealing correctly. I wish I had an answer for your original question, but I haven't looked at that issue on mine.Re: 19.5 tire question2004 1/2 It has the LLY Duramax.Re: 19.5 tire questionI've been using the Dunlop SP 431 245x70x19.5s on a set of Rickson forged aluminum wheels. They can be a little too stiff for running unloaded, but the much reduced sidewall flex with the camper on is worth it. Compared to 16" tires, the 19.5's don't allow as much sidewall roll on corners and they track really well on the highway. Plus the added weight capacity takes a load of worry off my mind, since I am slightly over 11,000 lbs GVW when leaving for a trip. I have a set of aftermarket mud flaps and when the tires were new, they would just rub the drivers side mud flap when backing up with the tire at full left lock. Since they have worn in though, the rubbing has stopped. I would never go back to 16" tires as long as I'm going to haul a camper. These 19.5's work so much better.
