Destination recommendations?Hi Steve, Sorry I can't answer your question about safety in Puerto Penasco as I've not kept up with recent happenings there. Can you post a news link to update me? Regarding the weather....the forecast for the next ten days indicates high temps near 70 and low temps near 50 degrees F. http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/Puerto+Penasco+Mexico+MXSR0096 Not what I would think of as "beach weather". The air and water temps in November were perfect but tend to gradually cool later in the year and slowly begin to increase as the days lengthen. If you want warmer you should probably head further south. GeneRe: Some Beach Somewhere..... Destination recommendations? My wife and I spent three weeks in Puerto Penasco/Rocky Point in November of 2012 and thoroughly enjoyed it. We pulled a 26' travel trailer down from Phoenix through Gila Bend and Ajo, AZ and went back up through Yuma the Sunday after Thanksgiving. If you're in California cross at San Luis south of Yuma and take the highway south toward El Golfo then continue southeast on the coastal highway to Puerto Penasco. We found the roads to be in good condition and enjoyed the drive. We stayed at Playa Bonita RV park http://www.rockypointreview.com/ad11324.html and would recommend it. We later checked out other parks but found Playa Bonita right on the beach the best for us. Some websites to check out: http://wikitravel.org/en/Puerto_Pe%C3%B1asco and http://www.rvgoddess.com/TRAVEL/MEXICO.aspxRe: Rocky Point,My wife and I crossed at San Luis south of Yuma last November the Sunday following Thanksgiving. Very busy due to the holiday traffic but that was to be expected. We were towing a 26' pull behind travel trailer with a Dodge RAM 2500 extended cab. No problems with room to get through. The road was excellent from Rocky Point to San Luis. There was an inspection point north of El Golfo. Bypass all the big trucks lined up to go through. Nice, polite young Mexican army recruit did the inspection. No problems. There is a short section that is a toll road a few miles south of San Luis. Can't remember the fare but thought it reasonable at the time. Be sure to check with U.S. Customs and Border patrol to make sure you have no prohibited items. They carefully checked our trailer including the refrigerator and freezer and all the storage lockers in the trailer.Re: Gila Bend AZ to Puerto PenascoWe stayed at Playa Bonita http://www.ontheroadin.com/pacificcoast/pacificnorth/playabonitarvpark.htm for three weeks last November. Thoroughly enjoyee it. The swimming was great. Crossing was easy. Make sure you carefully check both the Mexican and U.S. Customs regarding what can be brought in and what is prohibited. Our travel trailer was thoroughly searched when we crossed back into the U.S. at San Luis just south of Yuma. Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument http://www.nps.gov/orpi/index.htm South of Ajo is an interesting stop if you have the time. Gene
